The plug- 5 is formed wtha spigot-'I on which is fixed a knob whereby the plug 5 may berotated in the tubef `Fired in the plug'v5 Varid eccentrically disposed with regard to the tube 3 is a rod 9. This rod 9 extends through the tube 3 and sldably mounted on it is a tube IG. Separation of the tube I and the rod 9 is prevented by a projection II on the rod and the inturned end I2 of rthe tube I0.
It will be seen that if the end of a tress of hair is inserted between the jaws 4, and the plug 5 is rotated by the knob 3, the eccentric movement of the rod 9 will cause the hair to be gripped be tween the tube I0 and the inner surface of one or other of the jaws 4.

The pin 20 has a tube 23 riveted or otherwise fixed to its end and is use this tube co-operates with the tube I0 of the winding part I in the manner already described. The part 2| is formed with a U-shaped recess 24 to receive the tube 23 in the closed position of the clip.
A wedge 25 rests, in the closed position of the clip in the circular portion 22 and can be moved between the pin 20 and the member 2| to force these parts away and open the clip. The clip is in this manner retained in the open position whilst the curl is being wound. By pushing the wedge back into the circular portion, the clip is closed.
The wedge 25 is formed with grooves 26 at each end which engage with the arms of the member 2l and guide the wedge in its movement to open or close the clip.
It will be apparent that many modifications may be made in the details of the forms described Within the scope of the appended claims.
