Application January 24, 194.5.Serial No 574,241
This inventionrelates ;to window blind and curtain rod holders which can be firmly clamped in place-against the.window---frame facing without the use of nails or other elements that-would mar the front of the window facing.
An object of the invention is toprovide a device oft'his kind-which will firmlvgrip the sidesand top of a window casing and yet may be readily adjusted to adapt it to fit a casing of any standard width.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this kind that can be readily attached or detached from the window casing without perceptibly marring the finish of the window trim in connection with which it is used.
A further object of the invention is to provide a device of this kind which can be readily adjusted to various sizes of window casings.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel details of construction and combination of parts hereinafter more fully described and claimed, it being understood that various modifications may be resorted to within the scope of the appended claim without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any ofthe advantages of the invention.
The nature and characteristic features of the invention will be more readily understood from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, in which:
Fig. 1 is a front elevation of a preferred example of the device embodying the invention mounted in position on a window.
Fig. 2 is a top plan view thereof on the line 2--2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a side view on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is a sectional view on the line 4-4 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 5 is a perspective view of one of the hangers and one end of the tension bar of the device.
Fig. 6 is a side view of one of the window blind supports.
Fig. 7 is a sectional view of the tension bar.
Fig. 8 is a front view of one portion thereof.
Fig. 9 is a side elevational view of a curtain rod support for a flat curtain rod.
Fig. 10 is a side elevational View of curtain rod support slightly modified for a round curtain rod and Fig. 11 is a front elevational view thereof.
Referring to the drawing in detail wherein for illustration like numerals designate like parts, the reference character indicates the upper portion. of a window frameor casing to which the present invention is applied.
The invention resides in the provision of a tension bar 2| comprising a pairof relatively flat portions *22 having their inner ends bentupwardly at 23 to receive a rod 24in screw'threaded openings '25 ineach-of the end portionswni.
'The rod 24 is threaded on its end portions, said thread being right handed as at 26 on one end of said rod, and left handed as at 21 on the other end of said rod. The threaded ends of the rod 24 are engaged by the complementally threaded end portions 28 and is provided with a nut 29 which may be rotated to apply tension or release tension on the bar 2| when the device is to be applied or removed from the window l0.
The outer ends of the bar 22 are bent downwardly at 30 to engage the outer side of the window frame ID in order to support the device thereon.
The downwardly depending portions 3| are provided with screw threaded openings 32 therein and are adapted to have a curtain rod hanger .33 secured thereto by means of screws 34 entering the openings 35 in the hangers 33 and then being threaded in the complementally threaded openings 32 in the portions 3 I.
The bars 22 are provided at their outer ends in spaced relation to the portions 28 with slots 36 and supports 3'! are adjustably mounted in these slots 36 on the bars 22 by means of bolts 38 having a thumb nut 39 thereon entering the openings 31, in support 31.
The slots 36 permit adjustment of the support 31 for width of the window blind in accordance with the 'size of the window opening in the frame H].
The supports 31 are adapted to support window blind hangers 40 by means of screws 4| which enter the openings 42 of the hangers 40 and are received in the complementally threaded openings 4-3 in the supports 31. The hangers 40 are of the conventional type and are provided with the usual slot 44 in one of the hangers 40 as shown in Fig. 6.
The curtain rod hangers 33 may be provided with male ends 45 as shown in Fig. 9 or male ends 46 shown in Fig. 10. In either case they are adapted to enter the female ends 41 of the conventional telescopic curtain hanger rods 48, to
support the rod thereon.
In the type of male end 45 shown in Fig. 9 there is provided a flat end portion 45 which is adapted to be bent inwardly upon itself as shown at. 49 and to have a struck-out portion 50 adapted to put spring pressure upon the female end 41 to retain the curtain rod 48 thereon.
In the type of end 46 shown in Fig. 10 there is provided a tubular end portion 46 furnished with a slot M which is adapted to put a spring tension on the inner sides of the ends of a tubular curtain rod to retain the rod-in place on the hangers 33.
Thus the device can fiat curtain rod.
It is to be. noted that by the construction shown be used for a tubular or the bars 22 are placed on the'top edge of the frame I!) and are securely locked in position by rotation of the nut 29 which simultaneously posi tions the portions 28 and applies gripping action on these members to provide an adequate grip on the sides of the window casing l'0.
In thi manner the bars 22 are also adaptedto be adjusted to fit window casings of various sizes;
The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form proportions and minor details of construction and the right is herein reserved tomake such changes as properly fall within the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described the invention what is claimed as new is:
A device of the character described, comprising a tension bar'extending along the upper casing outer ends o'fsaid flat portions to support means for supporting a curtain rod thereon and means for securing said hanger to said flat portions.
