` POWDER Box HAVING SEALING RING y A 4 Filed sept. 7, 194e v (24 @oye-@5265;
Patented Sept. 14, 1948 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE POWDER BOX HAVING SEALING RING husband Application September 7, 1946, Serial No. 695,437
1 claim. 1
This invention relates to a powder box adapted to prevent loss of powder.
It is among the objects of my invention to provide a powder box having a seal for preventing the sifting of powder therefrom, thereby preventing the powder from undesirably contacting the hands or clothing of the user or falling out of the box onto the table or oor; to create a seal having a puff formed therefrom, and housed by said seal and removable therefrom for use as a powder pui.
My invention also contemplates such other objects, advantages and capabilities as will later more fully appear and which are inherently possessed by my invention.
While I have shown herein a preferred embodiment of my invention, yet it is understood that the same is susceptible of modification and change without departing from the spirit of my invention.
Referring to the drawings, Fig. 1 is a top plan view of my powder box; Fig. 2 is an elevational View; Fig. 3 is an enlarged detailed sectional View on line 3--3 of Fig. 1; Fig. 4 is a detailed sectional view of the cover; Fig. 5 is a detailed sectional view of the cover without the puff; Fig. 6 is a plan View of the pui; Fig. 7 is a plan view of the sealing ring; and Fig. 8 is a detailed sectional view of the puff and ring from which the puff is formed.
The embodiment selected to illustrate my invention comprises a box I0 made of cardboard or other suitable material, having a container portion I I adapted to hold face powder. The container portion II has a bottom I2, side walls I3, preferably curved, and an open top I4.
My box I0 also has a cover portion I5 with a top I6, side walls I'I, also preferably curved, and an open bottom I8.
A ring I9, preferably of sponge rubber or otherl suitable compressible material, has its top portion 2U attached to the inner surface 2I of top I6 by an adhesive or other suitable means. The side walls 22 of ring I9 are slightly spaced from contact with the inner surfaces 23 of side walls II, and are not attached thereto. The hollow center 24 of ring I9 is normally filled by pui 25, which has been cut from ring I9 and which is removable for use as a powder pui by the user.
Cover I5 is slightly larger than container II, so that when cover I5 is removably positioned on container II, walls I 'I of cover I5 slide over walls I3 of container II yand iit thereagainst by slight friction grip.
Walls I3 of lcontainer II extend between walls 22 of ring I9 andthe upper portions of walls Il of cover I5, forming a seal. This prevents powder from passing over the -top of walls I3 `of container II and sifting out of the box.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
A cardboard powder box comprising a container having a closed bottom and straight side walls extending upwardly from the bottom to an open top, a cover having a closed top without indentations, and straight side walls extending downwardly from the top to an open bottom, and. a sponge rubber ring having a top and straight side walls, the side walls of said ring being parallel to the side walls of said cover, and the side walls of said container, the top of said ring attached to the inner surface of the top of said cover, the side walls of said ring unattached to and spaced slightly from contact with the side walls of said cover. said cover slightly larger than said container and adapted for removable engagement therewith, so that the straight side walls of said container extend directly upwardly between the straight side walls of said ring and the upper portions of the straight side walls of said cover, thereby `contacting and compressing said ring to form a seal to prevent loss of powder from said container.
