This invention relates to-identication `badges such as are furnished their employees by indus# trial concerns.
t has as one object to provide abadge to1unvaryingly afford identification markingsA of r a more generic character and to selectively afford alternative assorted identicationmarkings. of a more specic character.
It has as a further object toprovide a: badge to unvaryingly afford identicationmarkingsat ahighest classification level and to selectively af.- ford alternative assorted identiication-markings at two or more lower classification levels.`
It has also as its object in fulfillment of the above objects to provide a badge of two parts, one basic part being of an unchangeable-character to afford generic identication and the other secondary part being attachable thereto interchangeably with similar secondary partsfcr aording specic identification, the attaching means being of a character to aiord a4 second kind of specific identification interchangeably with other similar fastening means.
Further objects of the invention residein the structural features and structural relationship of these features by which the aforesaid objects are accomplished in a badge, inexpensive of. manufacture, pleasing in appearance, securely assembled', convenient to wear, with readily interchangeable parts, and clearly Visible mark-ings.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will' be apparent from the following descriptiony and claims and from the drawing.
In the drawing,
Figure 1 is a front view of a badge exemplifythe principles of the invention.
Figure 2 is a rear view thereof.
Figure 3 is an enlarged sectional View of the badge taken along line 3-3 of Figure 1.
Figure Llis an explodedl perspective view ofthe parts of the badge.
The badge comprises a front plate IZand two fasteners I3, I3'.
The front or main plate comprises ytwo laminate,y I4, |45' of plastic material between .which-issee cureda sheet of paper I5'. The. plastic laminae HLMa are hot pressed together with the paper sheet in place. therebetween. 'I he paper sheet is marginally spaced from the edges .of the .plastic plate I I, a rear laminae along its upper'edge I6 and -its side 5 edges I1, I1. Its lower edge I8 is substantially spaced from the lower. edge I9. of the plastic laminae leaving Ia lower transparent zone!!! the plate II. y

The rivet head or button 38 is colored in distinctive contrast to the preferably neutral gray color of zone 22 and may` bear anidentifying letter 4I or numeral 42. The left hand button color may indicate the factory zone of the employee and the right hand button color may indicate the additional zone or zones in which heis.
free to travel. Two buttons of the same color wouldthus indicate he was conned to his own zone. The letter 4| or numeral 42 or both letter and numeral may be used to identify -a building location of the plant or branch, as location A7. The plates Il and l2 are placed together with the apertures 34 in plate H' registering with the apertures 35 in the plate l2. The sleeves 30 are placed in their respectively associated pairs of plates apertures. The rivets 3| are then press tted to position, care being taken to have them radially positioned to display the letter of numeral on the button in upright position. A drop of plastic sealer is placed in the sleeve bore prior to pressing the rivet shank therein toV seal the two fastener` parts together. By the use of a suitable tool, the seal may be broken and the rivet disengaged from the sleeve.
A clasp 43 mounted on the upper back face of plate Il serves to attach the badge to the clothing of the wearer.
The plate il is used to identify an employee of a given plant or branch. If the employee is transferred from one zone to another in his department or if the other zones ofghis free movement are changed, the buttons may be changed to those of other colors accordingly. The buttons may likewise be changed to present different n-umerals and letters on their front faces if the building location of the employee is changed or the building location .is renumbered.
If the rank or capacity of the employee is changed or he is transferred to anotherV department or to another shift or if duetoreorganization his same department is given another'number, such contingencies vare cared for byreplac ing the plate l2 with another'appropriately -colored and marked plate I2.
If an employee leavesV the employ ofthe employer or is transferred to another plant in another city and consequently turns in his badge, the plates are disassembled, the same plate Il is later given to aj new employee and to it issecured with rivets having appropriate buttons, a plate I2,either the same or anotherone, according to the circumstances of his employment.
