3` Claims. (Cl. 1Z0-93) This invention relates to a pencil sharpener.

It is primarily aimed to provide such an article which will constitute an attachment for theordinary lead or other writing'pencil, to be carried removably on the latter, andcapable of mounting and being closed by the eraser of the pencil.l

It is particularly aimed to provide a struc*V ture which may be made tubular and relatively short, with a diagonal blade therein fastened at opposite ends and generally reinforcing y,the structure. To render it more practical, an at-v taching clip whereby the article may be secured to a coat pocketor the like has been employed.

In addition, it is aimed to provide a novel` structure which may have a window for viewing the interior thereof f and which may be `made in separable sections. i l

The more specific objects and advantages will become apparent from a consideration of the` description following taken in connectio-n `with accompanying drawings illustratingan operative embodiment.

Referring specifically to the drawing lwherein like reference characters designatelike or similar parts, my improvements consist of a tube I of any suitable size and material, in the lower end of which a socket member Il is screw threaded or otherwise detachably connected at I2. The tube I0 is preferably of somewhat thicker material than the section II. The latter section preferably has a partition wall at I3. Section II is open at the bottom in order to provide a socket I4 for detachable frictional engagement with the upper end of an ordinary lead Aor other pencil l5.

A sharpening blade is shown at I6 disposed with a cutting edge at I'I. This blade is disposed approximately diametrically ofthe tube I0 and also diagonally with respect to the vertical or the longitudinal aXis of tube I0 as best shown in function as a pencil sharpener. Pencil I5 may be readily detached and its lower end inserted linto the upper end of tube` Il) and the same turned relatively so that the blade I6 will function as .a pencilsharpener.

The upper open end of the tube l0 is adapted to be closed `by a pencil eraser I9 of conventional structure, usually rubber, with an abrasive dispersed therethrough. In addition, a cap may `be employedif desired, the same detachably engaging screw threads 2l on the upper end of the tube I0.

As an accessory, I may provide a point protector 22 which is slidably engageable and disengageable with the pencil as shown in Figure 1, the same being of any suitable material and adapted to remain in place by reason` of a friction fit. I y

Tube IG' may have a window opening 23 therein adjacent its base so that one may View the progress of a pencil sharpening operation and the accun'iulationv of shavings therein, to best judge when to empty' the same by detaching the tube I0 at I2 from the: holder II. Thisopening 23 may ,be covered byla case of Cellophane or any other desiredtransparent or translucent matelrial 24. 1

Various changes may be resorted to provided they fall within the spirit and scope of the invention as hereinafter defined bythe appended claims. f l

I claim as my invention: l

1. A'pencil Sharpener attachment of the class described comprising a tube, a blade disposed generally diagonally and diametrically within the tube and fastened at opposite ends to the latter, said blade at its intermediate portion being narrow and free from the wall of the tube to provide much roomon all sides of the blade, and means to fasten the tube to a pencil.

2. A pencil Sharpener attachment of the class t described comprisingwa tube, aV blade disposed generally diagonally and diametrically within the tube and fastened at opposite ends to the latter and adjacent opposite ends of the latter, said blade at its intermediate portion being narrow and free from the wall of the tube to provide much roomon all sides of the blade, and means to fasten the tube to a pencil, comprising an attaching section, and means separably connecting the tube and attaching section.

3. Arpencil Sharpener of the class described comprising a tube, a blade disposed generally diagonally and diametrically within the tube and Afastened at opposite ends to the latter, said blade at its intermediate portion being narrow and free from the wall of the tube to provide much room on all sides ofthe blade.
