LINT REMOVING APPARATUS Filed Feb. 6, 1942 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 Inventor Z 10 166/7. Goans leeward J Czalz$orfle B1 W MM machinery. i p 1 The principal object of the present invention is to provide a lint removing device for attach ment to a washing machine for the purpose of removing lint from washing water so that it will it being preferable and be suitably secured to the? bottom of a v y through which water Patented Sept. 7, 1943 7 LINT REMOVING APPARATUS Rufus A. Goans and Leonard J. Claiborne, Twin v s Falls, Idaho Application February 6, 1942, Serial No. 429,816
a This invention relates to new and usefulimprovements in apparatus for removing lint'd-ur ing the operation of washing clothes by washing not be left on the clothes.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent to the reader of the following description.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 represents a sectional" view taken substantially on line ll of Figure 3. Figure 2 is a top plan view,
r 1 Claim. (cram-131) this fan being carried by a drive shaft l6. A
'F'ig11re3 is a vertical sectional view on line 3-3 of Figure 1. i v
Figure 4 is a fragmentary sectional view taken g substantially on line 4--4 of Figure 3. Referring to the substantial half-portion of its terfstrip 1 bridging the side iportions Tofthe box 5. This grill 6 defines an inlet for wash water, that the" apparatus underlie washing machine.
" j [The box 5 is made u of side walls Ay Afai,
front wallB, and a rear wallC. Projecting inwardly from the rear wall C is a shelfB from 1 which rises a pair of frames 9, .9,each having y aforaminous filler sheet l0, so that water may pass therethrough. A suitable filter material I! is packed in the space between the frames 9, 9,
and this may be removed and replenished whenever desired by removing a remo vable closure l 2 which overlies this space.
through the filtering material H to reach a'sucdrawings wherein like nu' merals designate like partsfit can be seenthat numeral 5 denotes a substantially deep box structure having-a top in the form of a grill Swhichmeets a cen i i The back wall 0 hasanopening" l3 therein I can passafter passing tion box I 4 in which a suction fan l5 operates, f
i is
Washing tub (not 'shown) through the box 5 and take-elf. pipe ll extends from the suction box l4 and may have a cut-off valve I8 therein. Numeral l9 denotes a return pipe to the washing machine. 7
A drain plug 20 is of the box 5.
It can now be seen that with the suction fan operating, water will be circulated from the provided for the bottom the pipe line I 9 back to the washing machine, this water, passing through the filtering material so that all lint and other foreign matter is removed from the water. i
While the foregoing specification sets forth the invention in, specific terms, it is to be understood that numerous changes in the shape, size and materials may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed hereinafter. 1
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
HA filtering device for attachment to the bottom of a washing machine comprising a narrow deep box having side walls and a flat top adapted to beopposed to said bottom, substantially one-half of said top from one side wall to the centerof the top being a grill through which water from the washing'machine may drain into said box, the other half of said top to the other wall between the bottom of the box and said cover, a pair of filter frames arising from said shelf to the top of the box and forming therebetween a filter chamber closed at the top thereof by said cover, filtering material in said chamber, said other side wall having an outlet opening therein opposite said frames, and. a suction pump on the outer face ofsaid other side wall with which said opening communicates and including a suction fan. a l
