Description

Dec. 15, 1942. 'G. SHONBLOM GARTR IDGE BOX 7 Filed Feb 14, 1941 ,8 Inventor 6a: f4! 5507? ,/m
A iiorney PatenteclDec. 15, 1942 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE CARTRIDGE BOX Gustaf Shonblom, Ridgefield, Wash. Application February 14, 1941, Serial No. 378,994
1 Claim.
The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in receptacles and more particularly to a rigidly constructed box adapted to contain and carry cartridges and an object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which will protect cartridges and prevent the spilling of the same in a persons coat pocket.
Another object of the invention is to enable a person to carry ammunition in a clean and free from grit state.
Other objects of the invention are to provide an ammunition boxl which will be simple in construction, strong and well adapted for its use.
All of the foregoing and still further objects and advantages will become apparent from a study of the following detailed description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, wherein like characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, wherein:
Figure 1 is a perspective view. of a device embodying my invention together with a box of cartridges as bought on the market.
Figure 2 is an end elevational View of the invention.
Figure 3 is a longitudinal vertical sectional view taken substantially on the line 33 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a horizontal longitudinal sectional view taken substantially on the line 4-4 of Figure 3.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, it will be seen that the reference numeral 5 designates generally a fiber cartridge boX of the conventional type which includes the tubular housing sleeve 6 which is provided with end. flaps l and 8 into which the cartridge tray 9 is slid and held by means of the flaps 1 and 8.
The present invention constitutes a substantially rigid rectangular open ended sliding cover Hi one end of which is provided with an inwardly directed flange I l and the other end of which has inwardly directed opposed knobs or protuberances I2 and 13 which extend from the side walls I4 and [5 of the sliding cover I0 in spaced relation to the end I6 thereof. The tray I! is provided with side walls l8 and IQ of such height as to enable them to pass beneath the protuberances l2 and l3 when the tray IT is slid in and out of the sliding cover It. The walls 20 and 2| of the tray ll are of such dimensions as to permit the tray ll together with the end walls 20 and 2| to be housed entirely within the sliding cover Ill with the housing sleeve 6 of the cartridge box 5 between the walls l8 and IQ of the tray I7 and the walls [4 and [5 of the sliding cover ll]. The end walls 2!] and 2| are further provided with notches 22 and 23 to permit the walls 29 and 22 to pass freely by the protuberances l2 and i3. When using the device for carrying cartridges the end flaps l and 8 of the housing sleeve 6 are severed or torn from the housing and then the housing is inserted within the sliding cover it. The cartridge tray 9 is then inserted in the tray I l and the tray [1 is inserted in the housing sleeve 6 after the same is inserted in the sliding cover 10. With the device assembled a set forth a person may hold the assemblage in one hand and with a finger can easily slide the tray 11 out of the housing cover I0 and remove a cartridge from the tray ll.
Although I have shown and described herein a preferred embodiment of my invention it is to be definitely understood that I do not desire to limit the application of the invention thereto, and any change or changes may be made in the structure and arrangement of the several parts within the spirit of the invention as claimed.
What is claimed is:
In a device of the character described, a cartridge receptacle comprising a tray, a housing forsaid tray open at each end, a lining for said housing also open at each end, stops extending interiorly of said housing adjacent one end and engaging one end of the lining for securing said lining against movement in one direction in said housing, and an abutment at an opposite end of the housing for engagement by said tray and said lining to secure the same against movement out wardly of said opposite end of the housing, said tray having end walls closing the ends of the cover and the lining.
GUSTAF SHONBLOM.
