This invention relates to button bows.

The principalobject ofthe invention is to provide a button bow of simple pattern and simple construction.

A further object is the provision of a button bow which may readily be fastened to a dress and equally readily be removed therefrom without permanently or even temporarily marring or defacing the dress.

Another object is to provide a button bow which may present a plurality of different, pleasing effects depending upon the manner in which it is applied to the dress.

A still further object is the provision of a button bow whose very simplicity lends itself to an almost infinite number of pleasing forms and shapes.

One of the preferred embodiments of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawing in which:

Figure 1 is a face or front view of the button bow as it would appear when buttoned to a dress;

Figure 2 is a "face or front view of the button bow as it would appear laid out on a ilat surface, as on a table top;

Figure 3 is a section on the line 3-3 of Figure 2 with the two disc-like members of ,the device y spread apart at their peripheral edges;

Figure 4 is a section on the line 4-4 of Figure 2, spread apart as in Figure 3; and

Figure 5 is a perspective View of the patterns of said disc-like members.

The button bow herein claimed consists, in the preferred form illustrated in the drawing, of a pair of identical disc shaped members I0, each being provided with a radial split or cut I I, each said member having a peripheral fringe of lace.

The two members are superimposed, one over the other, in such manner that the two radial cuts coincide. The left hand edge I2 (as seen in the drawing) of the top member is now sewed to the corresponding edge I3 of the bottom member, and the right hand edge I4 of the top member to the right hand edge I5 of the bottom member. A single continuous strip of lace I6 is now sewed to the peripheral edgesv of both members and it will be seen that the same strip may be attached to both members by means of a single, uninterrupted run of the sewing machine, and without cutting, except, of course, at the beginning 'and at the end. l

A button hole II is formed between the two members at the inner or closed end of their split or cut portions.

The button bow herein described is fastened to a dress by merely buttoning on to a button on the dress substantially in the manner shown in Figure 1. (The dress and button are not shown in said figure.) When the button bow is thus buttoned to the dress the upper member folds over upon itself, of its own weight, and substantial portions of the lower surface thereof and of the upper surface of the lower member become exposed. The seam formed of edges I2 and I3 tends to separate from the seam formed of edges I4 and I5, and radial folds are thereby caused to form in the respective members as shown in Figure 1.

Although the button bow shown-in the drawing and hereinabove described consists of a pair of identical disc shaped members, these members need not be identical, they need not be disc shaped and they need not number only two. Three or more members may be incorporated into a single button bow of the type described, and they may be of'varying sizes, such as a large button member, a medium sized middle member, and a small top member. These members may be of any polygonal shape. They may be made of any flexible material such as fibrous or cellulose materials, woven or otherwise fabricated. They may be fringed with lace or with other material or not fringed at all. The fringing may be continuous or not.

Although Figure 5 shows a pair of button bow patterns and not the button bow itself, its parts are identified, in the drawing, with the same identifying numbers as the button bow proper as shown in the other figures of the drawing. The purpose of this set-up is simply clarity.

I claim:

1. A button bow comprising at least two superimposed members made of exible material, each member having a radial cut formed therein, said members beingfastened to each other at their respective radialedges formed by their respec.

2. A button bow in accordance with claim 1 comprising a pair of disc shaped members made 0f a textile material and having a continuous lace border sewed to their peripheral edges.

3. A button bow in accordancewith claim 1 comprising at least two suitably shaped members, said members being identical with each other in shape, dimensions and in the material of which they are made.

4. A button bow in accordance with claim 1 comprising at least two disc shaped members of identical size and shape and made of identical material.
