This invention relates to garments, and has for its principal object the provision of a novel body garment for ladies having attached skirt and waist portions which. are so formed as to drape the body in a superior fashion and bring out the best lines of the wearer. The garment is intended primarily as a slip, although garments embodywithout, however, reducing the effective length of the garment. Another object of the present invention is to provide a garment having a minimum number of seams, thus reducing the overall cost of the garment, while, at the same time, preserving all of the effective lines of the body.

Specifically,-the garment of the present invention is what may be termed a ftwo gore slip as distinguished from the four-gore type of slip which hitherto has given fairly satisfactory results. The front skirt portion is formed ina single piece, and is provided'with laterally-extending portions at its upperend which extend into the waist-encircling section of the garment. This front skirt portion ispreferably, though not necessarily, formedon the bias of the material relative to the front median line of the garment. The balance of the garment, except for the brassire section, is preferably formed in a single piece, and is joined alongits two opposed, substantially-vertical edges to the opposed, vertical edges of the front skirt section. By thu forming the major portion of the garmentfrom two blanks only, the number of seams required islgreatly reduced, and the garment has a circular sweep which is highly flattering to the human figure, v as well as being remarkably comfortable to the wearer. i

Another object of the present invention; is the provision of an improved body garment, the several blanks of which are so formed'as to eifect a distinct saving in material, while, at the same time, providing a full body'garment so formed as to relatively snugly hug the figure, particularly over the abdomen, and to preserve this-fine-fitting qualityregardless of whether the wearer is sitting, standing, or is engaged in some active maneuvers, suchas dancing, walking or bending.

Other objects and advantages of the invention will be pointed out hereinafter, or will become apparent as the specification proceeds. i l l In the drawing:

The blank forming the front illustrated at 10in Fig. 4, and includes a curved lower edge I I and opposed, substantially-straight side edges-l2 which are somewhat inwardly inclined as they proceed upwardly. The blank further, includes lateral extensions I3 atthe upper end thereof defined by upwardly. and outwardlyextending edges I4, substantially-vertical edges l5, and upper curved edges l 6 which meet at the upper center of the blank defined by point I]. The central longitudinal line A-A of the blank forms the front median line of the garment. This blank, as was earlier pointed out, is desirably, though not necessarily, formed on a bias relative to such front median line A-A. T The blank forming the side and rear skirt sece tions is designated as 2| in Fig. 3, and includes improved garthe - a lower vertical edge 22, upwardly and inwardly inclined, substantially straight side edges 23, and

upper edges 24 meeting at central point 25. Edges 24 are desirably, though not necessarily, concavely curved. This blank is desirably formed so that the grain line of the material is substantially parallel with the line BB which forms the back median line of the garment. g In the preferred construction, this blank is formed in one piece,palthough if-this is inconvenient due to considerations of material width, or otherwise, it couldb'e formed in two pieces which might,

for example, be joined together along line BB to form a central, rear, vertical seam. The fit ting qualities of the garment, however, are considerably enhanced by forming this blank in one piece. I l

The brassiere section may be formed from either two or four of the blanks 28 shown in Fig. 5, depending upon whether a single or. double yoke effect is desired. The blank shown in Fig. 5 is formed for the right-hand side of the garment when viewed from the front, and a similar blank,

reversed as to position, is employed for the opskirt section is posite side of the brassire section. The blank includes side edge 29 which coincides with the front median line of the garment, and upper edges 30 and 3| which intersect at point 32, to which point the shoulder strap may be secured. The blank further includes side edge 33 which, in the assembled garment, defines the only side seam of the garment, and an irregularly-shaped lower edge 34. Blank 36, of which two or four are employed for the garment, forms the rear waist section and is of somewhat irregular rectangular shape, and formed with edges 31, 38, 39 and 40.

Edges l2 of blank l0, and edges 23 of blank 2|, are of substantially the same length, and are joined together to form seams 42 which are disposed on opposite sides of the front median line of the garment. Each of upper edges 2.4 of blank 2| is of a length substantially equal to the combined lengths of each of edges M in blank [0, and lower edge 40 of blank 36. Such edge 24 and edges I4 and. 40 are joined together to form stitch lines 43 at the front of the garment, and 44, at the rear of the garment. Next, edge, (5 of lateral extension l3, and edge 33 of blank 28, are joined to edge 31 of blank 36 to form a short side seam 45. Superior fitting qualities are provided if the blanks are So formed as to cause this scam to be located in the rear section of the garment, rather than have it coincide with the true side median line. The remaining edges 38 and 39 of blanks 36 form half of the upper edge of the rear wais't section of the garment. Next, edges 29 of each of blanks 28 are joined together to form stitch line 46, and finally, lower edge 34 of blank 28, and upper edge l6 of lateral extension l3, are joined together to form stitch line 41. Blank 28 may be provided with a plurality of notches or other indicating marks 50 to designate the locations of horizontal darts 5| which aid in shaping the brassiere section. Likewise, lower edge 34 of blank 28 may have a plurality of markings 54 which indicate the locations of the vertical darts 55. The garment is completed by providing shoulder straps 55.

From the foregoing, it will be clear that the entire upper portion of blank It forms a true midriff section which is on the bias, and which snugly fits the abdomen of the wearer. The seams are so arranged as to cooperate with each other to yield to stresses in the garment, regardless of the position orcondition of activity or inactivity of the wearer.

While one form or embodiment of the invention has been shown and described herein for illustrative purposes, and the construction and arrangement incidental to a specific application thereof have been disclosed and discussed in detail, it is to be understood that the invention is limited neither to the mere details or relative arrangement of parts, nor to its specific embodiment shown herein, but that extensive deviations from the illustrated form or embodiment of the invention may be made, without departing from the principles thereof.

What I claim is:

l. A body garment formed from a plurality of blanks of material, including an elongated blank forming the front skirt portion and provided at its upper end with outwardly disposed lateral extensions which extend into the waist section and terminate substantially at the side of the garment, a blank forming the side and rear skirt section, the opposed vertical edges of each of such blanks being upwardly and inwardly inclined, the adjacent edges of such blanks being substantially straight and being joined together to form substantially vertical seams disposed on opposite sides of the front median line of the garment, said latter blank being formed with two upwardly and inwardly-inclined upper edges which are conoavely curved and which intersect at the upper, rear, central point of the garment, and blanks forming the brassiere and rear waist sections of the garment, the lower edges of the latter blanks and the lower edges of the lateral extensions being substantially straight and being secured to the concaVely-curved upper edges of the blank forming the rear skirt section, the lower edges of the brasslre section being secured to the upper edge of the front skirt blank.

A body garment formed from a plurality of blanks of material, including an elongated blank forming the front skirt. portion and provided at its upper end with lateral extensions which extend into the Waist section and terminate substantially at the side of the garment, a blank formin the side and rear skirt section, the opposed vertical edges of each of such blanks being upwardly and inwardly inclined, the adjacent edges of such blanks being of substantially the same length and being joined together to form substantially vertical seams disposed on opposite sides of the front median line of the garment, said latter blank being formed with two upwardly and inwardlyinclined upper edges which intersect at the upper, rear, central point of the garment, and blanks forming the brassiere and rear waist sections of the garment, the lower edges of the latter blanks and the lower edges of the lateral extensions being secured to the upper edges of the blank forming the rear skirt section, the lower edges of the brassire section being secured to the upper edge of the front skirt blank.

A body garment formed from a plurality of blanks of material, including an elongated blank forming the front skirt portion and provided at its upper end with lateral extensions which extend into the waist section and terminate substantially at the side of the garment, the upper portion of such blank including the lateral extensions form-- ing a midriff section, the grain line of which is at an angle to the front median line of the garment, the opposed vertical edges of the blank being upwardly and inwardly inclined, a blank forming the side and rear skirt section, the adjacent edges of such blanks being joined together to form substantially vertical seams disposed on opposite sides of the front median line of the garment, the grain line of the material in the rear skirt blank adjacent such edges lying generally parallel with such edges, said latter blank being formed with two upwardly and inwardly-inclined upper edges which intersect at the upper, rear, central point of the garment, and blanks forming the brassiere and rear waist sections of the garment, the lower edges of the latter blanks and the lower edges of the lateral extensions being secured to the upper edges of the blank forming the rear skirt section, the lower edges of the brassire section being secured to the upper edge of the front skirt blank, and darts formed in the lower edges of the brassiere section.
