In the form shown, the seat is provided with a base or bottom member I, herein referred to as the bottom, and which is preferably made of wood, or possibly of some sheet material of suitable strength and thickness. ; The -rod I' knot only serves to hold the arms or sidemembers Fin-properly spaced relation; but it acts as-a guardrail at the front of 'theseatto prevent a small child from sliding or falling from the seat.

The back member 9 of the seat is provided in its lower edge with a pair of spaced notches I9, each of which fits into engagement with a com-, plementary notch 20 formed in each of the two arms or side members Ill, said notches 20 being located in the upper edge of each arm near its rear end. The interengagement of the notches I9 and 20 holds the rear ends of the side members In in properly spaced relationship and holds th back in an upright position. It will be observed that when the back is engaged with the side members in the manner described, the lower portion of the back member will extend over the rear edge 6 of the bottom I. When in this position, spaced holes 2| extending through the back member 9, will be in alignment with the recesses 1 in the rear edge 6 of the bottom I. Fastening pins 8 are now inserted through the aligned holes 2| and recess s I and these pins serve to hold the back against raising movement. Since the notches 20 in the back member -9 are engaged over the tops of the side members, as shown in Fig. 8, the rear portions of the side members cannot rise, and since the front portions of the side members 10 are held down by engagement of the hooked elements ll beneath the bottom I, it will be apparent that the various parts of the device, and particularly the three wall elements I0, I and 9, 'are securely held together in the relationship described, and such locked relationship of th parts is maintained as long as the pins 8 are in place. The pins 8 may be of wood if desired and may be a tight fit in the holes 2! and recesses 1 so that they will frictionally hold their positions, until manually removed. If a permanent assembly of the seat is desired, the pins 8 may be glued in place.

It is to be noted that the seat may be assembled readily by simple interfit of the several parts accompanied by the manual insertion of the two small pins 8, and a strong structure results, yet one which may be dismantled almost instantly by removal of the pins 8 and the separation of the notched. parts, to allow the seat to be packed fiat for convenience in carrying or shipping. Since no tools are required for the assembly of the seat, no assembly cost is involved and as a result the device may be inexpensively manufactured.

While I have herein illustrated the seat for use as a toilet seat, it will be obvious that it may be embodied in various other structures and designs, all comprehended within the invention and within the scope of the claims appended hereto.

What I claim. is:

1. A seat of the character described comprising, a bottom, a pair of side members, a back, a guard rail, the bottom being notched at its forward edge and recessed in its rear edge, the side members having hooked elements engaging in the notches in the forward edge of the bottom member, the back being notched to interfit with the side members adjacent to the rear ends of said side members, the back having apertures in registration with the recesses in the rear edge of the bottom, pins removably fitted through said apertures and extending into the recesses, and the guard rail extending between and removably connecting the side members at the front end of the seat.

A seat of the character described comprising, a seat bottom, spaced side members rising from the top face of the bottom, the forward edge of the bottom having spaced notches, the lower edge of the side members having hooked elements entering said notches, the top edge of the side members being notched near the rear ends of said side members, a back member having notches in its lower edge near its opposite ends, the notches in said back member engaging those in the side members, and fastening pins extending through the back member near its lower edge and entering into the rear edge of the bottom, said pins preventing raising movement of the back member, and-the notched engagement between the back and side memb rs holding the rear portions of the side members against raising movement relative to the bottom.

A seat of the character described comprising, a seat bottom, spaced side members rising from the top face of the bottom, the forward edge of the bottom having spaced notches, the lower edge of the side members having hooked elements entering said notches, the top edges of the side members be ng notched near the rear ends of said side members, a back member having notches in its lower edge near its opposite ends,

the notches in said back member engaging those in the side members, fastening pins extending through the back member near its lower edge and, entering into the r ar edge of the bottom, said pins preventing raising movement of the back member, and the notched engagement between the back member and side members holding the rear portions of the side members against raising movement relative to the bottom, and a guard rail connecting the side members at the forward ends of said members, said guard rail consisting of a split member having means by which it maintains the side members in spaced relation.

A seat of the character described comprising, a bottom, a pair of triangularly shaped side members, a back, a front guard rail, the bottom having spaced notches in its forward edge and having spaced recesses in its rear edge, each of the side members having a downwardly dependent hook member at its forward edge fitting in the notches in the bottom, said hook members engaging beneath the bottom and preventing raising movement of the front parts of the side members, the side members having notches in their upper edges adjacent to their rear ends, the back being notched in its lower edge to engage with the notches in the upper edges of the side members, the back having spaced holes extending through it near its lower end, said holes aligning with the recesses in the rear edge of the bottom, pins removably extending through said holes and entering the recesses in the bottom, the guard rail extending between and connecting the side members at the front upper ends of said members, said guard rail having split end portions, the side members having holes in which said split portions of the guard rail are received.
