Another very important object of the inveny tion is to provide a mop holder ol' the character described comprising novel means for rmly clamping the strands of yarn or other material in position.
Other objects of the invention are to provide a mop holder of the aforementioned character which will be .comparatively simple in construction, strong, durable, light in weight, compact, and which may be manufactured at W cost.
All of the foregoing, and stillvfurther objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from a study of the following specification, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein like characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, and wherein:
Figure 1 is an elevational view of a mop holder constructed in accordance with the present invention.
Figure 2 is a bottom plan view of the device.
Figure 3 is a vertical sectional view, taken substantially on the line 3-3 of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is an end elevational view of the device with a portion thereof broken away in section.
Figure 5 is a detail view in perspective of one Fixed on one end portion of the handle I is an elongated head 2. Extending upwardly into the end portions of the head 2 from the bottom thereof are sockets or bores 3, the purpose of which will be presently set forth.
A bar 4 is provided beneath the head 2 for clamping the yarn thereagainst. The members I, 2 and 4 are preferably of wood. Fixed in the end portions of the clamping bar 4 and projecting upwardly therefrom are guide pins 5 which are slidably engaged in the sockets 3.V
Substantially U-shaped levers B of sheet metal are mounted for swinging movement on the end portions of the head 2. The levers 6 include arcuate legs 'I which straddle the end portions of the head 2 and which are pivotally secured on said head by pins or the like 8. Apertured ears 9 proy3 claims. v(o1. 15-152) ject from the legs 'I of the levers 6 at intermediate points.
Toggles I0 connect the clamping bar 4 to the levers 6 for actuation thereby. The toggles I0 straddle the bar 4 and the head 2 and, as best seen in Figure 5 of the drawings, said toggles comprise pairs of arcuate links II of sheet metal having their lower end portions connected by shafts I2. The shafts I2 extend beneath the end portions of the clamping bar 4 where they are rotatably secured by straps I3. The upper end portions of the links II are pivotallyonnected to the ears 9 of the levers 6.
It is thought that the operation of the device will be readily apparent from a consideration of the foregoing. Briefly, the levers 6 are swung outwardly or toward the ends of the head 2 for moving the clamping bar 4 away from said head. The yarn or other material is then inserted between the bar 4 and the head 2. Then, the levers 6 are swung inwardly past dead center for drawing the bar 4 upwardly through the medium of the toggles I0 for firmly clamping the vyarn or other material between said bar and the head 2.
As hereinbefore indicated, the guide pins 5, sliding in the sockets 3, retain the clamping bar 4 in its correct position while moving toward or away from the head 2.
It is believed that the many advantages of a mop holder constructed in accordance with the I present invention will be readily understood, and although a preferred embodiment of the device is as illustrated and described, it is to be understood that changes in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to which will fall within th scope of the invention as claimed. l
What is claimed is:
1. A mop holder comprising a handle, an elongated head on one end portion of said handle,
a bar disposed beneath and cooperable withv thev head for clamping mop material therebetween,
substantially U-shape'd levers straddling the ends l of said head and havingv their ends pivoted to the end portions of the shaft, said links having end portions pivotally secured to the leg portions of the adjacent lever at intermediate points of said leg portions.
3.- A mop holder comprising a handle, an elongated head onkone end portion of said handle, the end portions of the head having sockets therein which open through the bottom of the head and terminate below the top of the head, a
bar disposed beneath and cooperable with the head for clamping mop material therebetween, C
guide pins xed in the end `portions of the bar and slidably engaged in the sockets of the head, and means for actuating the bar for moving same toward or away from the head, said means comprising substantially U-shaped levers including arcuate leg portions straddling the end portions of the head and pivotally connected to the head, ears projecting from the legs at intermediate points, yokes straddling the bar and the head for operatively connecting the levers to said bar, each of said yokes including a shaft rotatably engaged beneath an end portion of the bar and arcuate links on the ends of said shaft, said links having end portions pivotally connected to the ears, and retaining straps for the shafts on the end portions of the bar.
