icl'aims.' (c1. 292-340) if The instant invention is concerned with door strikes and relates-more particularly toprovision of: an improved, simplified strike construction of an adjustable character.- y l Among the objects of my invention are the provisions ofanadjustable door strike construction which provides an adjustment of the door strike itself to eiTect a desired late-hing lposition for the latch Iboltof the door, which presents the appearance ofra conventional door strike,` and which is of a simple and economical construction. Y -Y v Otherobjects and .advantages 'of the invention will be apparent from the followingv description of certain preferred embodiments thereof as illustrated inthe accompanying drawing, in which: l fil-Figure 1 is an elevational view of a preferred formof door strike as mounted in a door jamb.
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view of the strike plate taken as indicated by the line 2`2 in Figure 1; l I l Figure 3 is a horizontal sectional view through the strike plate construction as indicated by the lne 3 3 in Figure- 1;
Figure 4- illustrates a modied form of the invention and is a vertical sectional view similar to Figure 2;
Figure 5 is a horizontal sectional view of the strike plate shown in Figure 4 and taken as indicated by the line 5-5 in Figure 4.
Referring to Figures 1 to 3 inclusive, a door jamb I of conventional construction is shown having the usual recess I I for receiving the latch bolt of the door. The door jamb I0 is recessed about the latch bolt opening II to receive the base plate I2 of the door strike and to position its outer surface in ush relationship with the surface of the door jamb. The plate I2 is held in place in the usual manner by conventional screws I3 which are received in counter-sunk openings in the base plate I2.
The base plate I2 has adjustably mounted thereon a door strike I4 which is disposed in a guideway or seat provided by a recessed formed portion I6 of the base plate. Guideway I6 is formed at one side of the latch opening II in indicated schematically in Figure 3.
I6 of the plate I2 may 'extend outwardly to the front face of'the door jamb as seen most clearly in Figure 3. r
The door strike I4 is of generally rectangular shape and is providedwith a cam end I8 for engagement with the door latch bolt I9 which is In order to secure the vdoor strikeIll in an adjustable manner `on thegbase lplate I2, the portionv I6 of the base plate is provided with a horizontal slot 2 I. Slot 2Ireceives a clamping bolt or screw 22 having itsliead disposedin a counter-sunk opening in the door strike I4 and adapted to receive a nut 23er special construction. VNut '23 isV generally T -shaped to'provide a flat-sided projection 24and'opp0s`ite extensions 25'at the head of the nut'. Projection 24 seats in the slot 2| to allow sliding movement of the nut during adjustment of the strike plate and to prevent turning of the nut during tightening of the is firmly guided in its adjusted movement by engagement of the projection 24 in the slot 2| and by the engagement of the bevelled side edges of the door strike I4 with the complevmental side surfaces 26 of the guideway as shown in Figure 2.
By loosening the bolt 22 the door strike I4 can be adjusted to the desired position to allow engagement of the latch bolt I9 of the door in the opening I'I while preventing rattling of the door in its closed position. From inspection of Figure 1 it is apparent that applicants adjustable door strike construction presents subvstantially the same appearance as a conventional non-adjustable door strike and necessitates approximatelyI the same amount of work for installation. At the same time a very convenient and simple form of adjustment is provided to eliminate rattling of the door in its closed position.
Referring to the form of the invention shown in Figures 4 and 5, the baseV plate I2a of th'e door strike construction is generally similar to the base plate I2 shown in Figures 1 to 3 and is mounted in the same manner. It will be noted that the formed portion I6a may be provided with straight-sided shoulders 3| to engage Within the Walls of the opening II in the door jamb. The door strike I4a, similarly seats in a guide Way formed by the depressed portion I 6a, and
to further aid in guiding the door strikes linear movement, it may be provided with V-shaped extensions 32 seating in similarly V-shaped grooves 33 provided in the depressed portion |611.
In order to provide an entirely concealed adjustment, the door strike I4a is provided on its inner face With a tubular extension or stud 34 Which is received in and guided by the slot 21a of the base plate. The tubular extension or guide stud 34 is internally threaded to receive a clamping screw 36 whose head spans the width of the slot 2id and clamps against the inner face of the depressed portion I 6a ofthe base plate" plate I2a is removed from the door jamb, and
is effected by loosening screw 36 and slidingthe strike along its guideway to the desired position. Thereafter the entire assembly is again installed by meanslof the screws I3,
I claim: Y
