This invention relates particularly to packages, boxes, cartons and similar receptacles of the type that include article-supporting or articlespacing cell blocks, partitions, racks and the like. More particularly the invention contemplates packages for explosive-containing` articles such as cartridge detonators. Such packages should be devoid of metallic parts or fasteners such as staples, rivets, etc., to eliminate the possibility of premature or accidental ignition or settingol of the explosives by sparks that might be produced by frictional contact of metallic parts during handling of the packages.

Therefore one object of my invention is to provide novel and improved means for securing an article-supporting or article-spacing cell block, partition or rack within a package, box or similar receptacle without the use of metallic fasteners or the like.

Another object is to provide novel and improved means for fastening an article-supporting or -spacing cell block, partition or rack Within a box, which shall include a flexible cover, for example paper, adhesively secured to the outside of the box and also adhesively secured to the inner walls of the box and to said block or partition so as to rmly hold the latter in proper position in the box.

Other objects, advantages and results of the invention will be brought out by the following description in conjunction with the accompanying drawing in which:

Figure 1 is a perspective view of a closed pack age embodying my invention.

Figure 2 is an enlarged longitudinal vertical sectional View on the line 2-2 of Figure 1.

Figure 3 is a similar View on the line 3--3 of Figure 1.

Figure 4 is a detached perspective View of the inner box section of the package showing the cover partially applied to the box; and

Figure 5 is a plan view of the blank for the cover.

For the purpose of illustrating the principles of the invention I have shown it in conjunction with a package of the slide type particularly de.- signed for use in packaging cartridge detonators. As shown, the package comprises an inner box section A and an outer tubular slide section B Within which the section A is encased when the package is closed. Within the box A is an articlepositioning unit C the purpose of which is to support or space articles to be packed in the package. My invention is directed particularly to the fastening. oi the article-positioning unit within the box A.

More specifically, the box A comprises a bottom wall l and side walls 2 which project upwardly from the bottom wall and form an open top for the box which is bounded by the upper edges of the side walls.

The article-positioning unit C may be of any suitable type to accommodate the articles to be packed, but is shown as comprising a plurality of stiff sheets 3 of cardboard which are arranged in superposed relation to each other upon the bottom wall of the box and have registering openings 4 that form cells in which the articles to be packed may be located. The number of the sheets can be varied to produce cells of different lengths according to the depth of the box or the lengths of the articles to be packed.

A cover 5 of flexible material, such as paper, is applied to the outside of the bottom and sidewalls of the box, preferably adhesively, and has marginal portions 6 which are turned inwardly over the edges of the walls 2 of the box as at 'l and overlying and adhesively secured to the inner surfaces of said Walls above the top surface of the article-positioning unit C as indicated at 8. The marginal portions 5 also overlie and are adhesively secured to the top surface of the article-positioning unit as indicated at 9.

With this construction it will be observed that the flexible strips, that is, the inturned marginal portions 6 of the cover, secured at 8 and 9 to the walls and the article-positioning unit, will rmly fasten the article-positioning unit in proper position Within the box and thereby eliminate the necessity for separate fasteners such as staples, rivets, etc.

While forming no part of my invention, a ller sheet I0 is preferably arranged over the articles in the box A to hold them in the respective openings or cells 4.

I have shown the package as approximately rectangular, but it will be understood that the shape of the package may be modied as may be necessary or desirable for the packaging of different types and sizes of articles. Furthermore, while I prefer to make the box A of cardboard and the cover 5 of paper, other suitable materials may be utilized without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention.

What I claim is:

1. A package of the character described comprising a box having bottom and side walls and an open top bounded by the edges of said side walls, an article-positioning unit within said box said unit within said box.

with its sides abutting the respective said side Walls and with its top side below said edges of said side walls and exposed through said open top, and flexible strips of material overlying and adhesively secured to the top surface of said unit, said strips also overlying and being adhesively secured to the inner surfaces of said side Walls above said unit, whereby said strips hold 2. A package of the character described comprising a, box having bottom and side walls and an opening at its top, an article-positioning unit within said box with its top side exposed through said opening, and a cover of flexible material secured on the outside of said bottom and side 3. A package of the character described comprising a, box having bottom and side walls and an open top bounded by the edges of said side Walls, an article-positioning unit within said box with its sides abutting the respective said side Walls and with its top side below said edges of said side walls and exposed through said open top, and a cover of flexible material on the outside of said bottom `and side walls of said box having marginal portions extending inwardly over the edges of said side Walls and then downwalls of said box and having marginal portions ginal portions being adhesively secured to saidv top side of said unit, whereby said marginal portions fasten said unit in said box.

Wardly and over the tcp surface of said unit, said marginal portions being adhesively secured to the top surface of said unit and to the inner surfaces of said side walls above said unit, whereby said marginal portions fasten said unit in said box.
