1 Claim.

My invention relates to improvements in hair driers such as are used in beauty parlors and the like to dry the hair and head under the action of heat.

The invention is designed with the primary object in view of providing a simply constructed, inexpensive, efficient, heat resisting head guard adapted for easy, quick attachment in a hair drier helmet to hold the head away from the drier with comfort and so as to prevent the head, or hair, from coming into contact with the drier and being burned or scorched thereby.

To the accomplishment of the above, and subordinate objects presently appearing, a preferred embodiment of my invention has been illustrated in the accompanying drawings, set forth in detail in the succeeding description, and defined in the claim appended hereto.

Referring to the drawings by numerals, according to my invention, a skeleton head guard I of rod like heat resistant metal and dome like cage form is provided to fit within the usual drier helmet 2, with a clearance all around the same sufiicient to prevent the hair, when dressed and moist, from contacting the helmet through the guard.

The guard comprises, as its basic element, a ring like head band 3 of any suitable heatresistant flat metal, and which is designed to fit around the head, as shown, with the requisite clearance for comfort. A pair of upwardly bowed rod-like frame members 4, 5 having eyelet ends 6 surmount the band 3 in crossed relation, one member 4 having its eyelet ends 6 circumposed .around a pair of front and rear studs 1 outstanding from the band 3, and the eyelet ends 6 of the other member 5 being similarly arranged on a pair of similar studs 8 at the sides of said band, said ends 6, in each instance, being secured to the studs and to the outer face of said band by welding not shown. The members 4, 5 are braced by any suitable arrangement of cross rod members, some of which, for instance those designated 9,

arch upwardly over the head, and others, designated it], being suitably bowed to fit alongside the head and around the forehead and back regions of the head. A lower ring-shaped member H connects the members i, 5 immediately above the band 3 and surrounds the head as best shown in Figure 1. The members 9, l0, II are suitably connected to each other and to the members 4, 5.

A chin strap i2 provided with a suitable buckle l3 for adjustment of the strap is attached to the inner side of the band 3 at opposite sides of the band.

The described guard l is fixed in the drier, or helmet, 2 with the band 3 immediately above the bottom of said helmet, and spaced from the interior of the helmet, by means of the studs 1, 8 which are fixed at their outer ends to the inner wall of said helmet as by welding not shown.

As will be apparent, with the head inserted in my improved guard I and fixed therein by means of the chin strap I2, the head is held out of contact with the drier, or helmet, 2 in spaced relation thereto so that the head and hair cannot contact the heated helmet even though the wearer fall asleep. Thus, burning of the head and hair is positively prevented and the use of such driers rendered absolutely safe. Obviously, the device may be adjusted to different sizes of heads by means of the chin strap l2. Also, as will be clear, the guard is very simple in construction, may be manufactured at a low cost, and installed easily and quickly in a drier helmet either at a factory or in a beauty shop or similar establishment. The head band 3 may be perforated as at 3' to permit heat to pass therethrough.

The foregoing will, it is believed, sufiice to impart a clear understanding of my invention without further explanation.

Manifestly the invention, as described, is susceptible of modification without departing from the inventive concept, and right is herein reserved to such modifications as fall within the scope of the appended claim.

What I claim is:

A hair drier comprising a helmet, and a domelike head guard of skeleton form secured in said helmet and centered therein in spaced relation to the inner wall of the helmet, said guard comprising a head band, a skeleton rod-like superstructure surmounting said band, and an adjustable chin strap depending from the band.
