Description
July 30, 1940. MATYSEK 2,209,465
PHYSICAL CULTURE AND EXERCISING DEVICE Filed July 15, 1938 Patented July 30, 1940 UNlTED STATES PATENT @FHCE PHYSICAL CULTURE AND EXERCISING DEVICE 1 Claim.
This invention relates to improvements in physical culture and exercising devices, and has for its object to provide a device of this character in which the weight can be increased or decreased as desired.
A further object of the invention is to provide the device with a cylinder adapted to revolve and in which the weight can be increased or decreased as desired, said cylinder being used for rolling over the abdomen, when the user is in an inclining position, for the purpose of reducing the abdomen.
The invention consists of the novel construction and arrangement of the parts and combination of parts hereinafter more fully set forth in the following specification and pointed out in detail in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawing:
Figure l is an elevation of my invention.
Figure 2 is a vertical longitudinal section of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is an end view of Figure 1. Referring to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification, and in which like reference numerals designate like parts throughout the several views thereof, l designates 2. cylinder having an aperture 2 in each end thereof and is revolubly mounted on a rod 3. The said cylinder is closed at each end when on the rod 3 and forms a chamber surrounding said rod in which shot or other weights can be placed to increase the weight of the device. Also mounted on the rod 3 adjacent the said cylinder l are washers 4. Also mounted on the rod 3 are a number of weights 5, 6 and 1 near each end of the said rod 3 and adjacent the weights 5 are washers 8, also mounted on the rod 3. Revolubly mounted on the said rod 3, between the washers 4 and 8, are sleeves 9 which form hand-holds for the device when being used. The rod 3 is provided at each end with a collar ii] to hold the parts in position thereon, said collars being held to the rod by the thumb-screws H. The weight of the device can be varied by reducing or adding 5 to the number of weights 5, 6 and l. The cylinder i can also be filled with shot, or pieces of metal, IE to increase the weight of the device. When it is desired to remove the shot l2 to reduce the weight of the device, or to add more shot to increase the weight, one of the collars ll! can be loosened and removed from the rod 3 and the latter pulled back into the cylinder l, leaving one of the apertures 2 open for the purpose of removing some, or all, of the shot 15 12 from, or adding more to, the cylinder. When the device is used for reducing the abdomen, the user will lie upon'his back and by grasping the device by the sleeves 9, the cylinder I can be rolled back and forth over the abdomen, and when being 20 used as an exercising device, it can be simply lifted and lowered or used in any other manner desired.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is: 25
A physical culture and exercising device, comprising a rod, a cylinder revolubly mounted at its ends on said rod and having a chamber therein adapted to hold weights, weights revolubly mounted on said rod near each end thereof, 0 sleeves loosely mounted on said rod between the ends of said cylinder and said weights, washers mounted on said rod adjacent each of said sleeves, a collar adjustably mounted on each end of said rod to hold the parts in position thereon, and a 35 set screw in each of said collars to hold them in the adjusted position on said rod.
ANTHONY MATYSEK.
