SANITARY TOILET SEAT Filed July 5, 1938 FIE. EL
INVENTOR.
ATTORNEY.
Patented June 11, 1940 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
This invention relates to toilets and more particularly to a seat construction therefore.
The general object of this invention is to provide improvements in toilet seat constructions whereby the seat is readily removable from the bowl and is so mounted thereon as to prevent escape of splashing water and also so as to minimize breakage of the seat due to wear and strain on the hinge posts.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing wherein Fig. 1 is a side view of a toilet seat and upper portion of a bowl embodying my invention and t Fig. 2 is the view of the under side of the seat and Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken along the line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, I show the upper portion of a toilet bowl 5 having a pair of hinged studs 6 secured thereto, the studs 6 each having a U shaped upper end 1 in which is adapted to be placed the hinge pin 8 on which is secured a hinge bracket 9 for a toilet seat I and hinge bracket II for cover 12. Seat [0 has secured to the under side thereof a strip of rubber I3, substantially semi-circular in section, which strip l3 extends through the length of seat ring and rests on top of bowl and provides a support for every part of seat I0 and is in contact with the top of the bowl through its length.
By the foregoing construction, it will be apparent that the ring strip l3 will support seat l0 and that none of the weight will be carried 5 by the hinge pin 8 or be transmitted to the studs 6 which in constructions heretofore used often caused breakage of the seat due to uneven wear and excessive strain on the hinge pins 8. The U-shaped portion 1 permits the ready removal of 10 seat and cover for cleaning, painting or any type of service work in connection with the toilet bowl. The strip 13 will, as shown, prevent splashing of any water from the bowl to the floor, thus overcoming an important source of trouble. 15
Having described my invention, what I claim is: The combination with a toilet bowl having a horizontal flange at its rear portion, a pair of supports secured to said. flange in spaced relation and each having a vertical upper open ended slot, a seat resting on the bowl and having a'bracket, a hinge pin carried by the bracket above the lower face of the seat and within the slots of the supports above their lower ends, a cover resting on the seat, and lugs carried by the cover and rotatably mounted on the hinge pin, whereby the seat and cover are wholly supported upon the bowl.
