This invention relates generally to headwear. More particularly, my invention relates to a certain new and useful improvement in headwear of the type commonly known as outing hats and has for its object the provision of a hat of the type mentioned which is inexpensive in structure, which may be readily and cheaply manufactured, which embodies few parts readily joined or assembled into hat formation and equally readily separated for compact portability, which is durable and serviceable, and which is cool and comfortable on the head.

And with the above and other objects in view, my invention resides in the novel features of form, construction, arrangement, and combination of parts presently described and pointed out in the claims.

In the accompanying drawing Figure 1 is a perspective view of an outing hat constructed in accordance with and embodying my invention;

Figures 2 and 3 are plan views of the crown and brim members of the hat, respectively; and

Figure 4 is an enlarged detail sectional view of the hat on the line 4-4, Figure 1.

Referring now more in detail and by reference characters to the drawing, which illustrates a preferred embodiment of the invention, the hat comprises merely two main or essential parts or members, namely, a brim A and a crown B, readily joinable, as presently appears, in forming the finished hat.

The brim A, in turn, is constructed of a section of suitable or desired size of any suitable somewhat relatively stiff fabric or material, such, for instance, as buckram or the like, and has pref erably the rectangular form with rounded corners best seen in Figure 3, brim A having a preferably elliptical head-opening l of selected size, a binding 2 around the peripheral margin of headopening I, and a binding 3 around its outer margin. And, for purposes presently appearing, the brim A, centrally in its front and rear portions, is provided with pairs of suitably spaced parallel slits s and intermediate the respective pairs of slits s and its outer margin with snap-couplet members 4.

The crown B is likewise constructed of a section of buckram or other suitable material initially of oblong-rectangular configuration, fiexibly bent along spaced parallel lines 5, 5 intermediate its ends to include a central portion or panel 2) of a length and width corresponding approximately with the major and minor dimensions of head-opening I, and opposite end-portions or panels I), b, of selected width for determining the height of the crown B. Projecting outwardly and centrally from the opposite free margins of the end-panels b, b, are flexible tabs 6 each equipped with a co-operable snapcouplet member 1 and adapted for threaded projection through a pair of respective slits s and detachable connection at its couplet-member 1 with the brim couplet-members 4 for detachably securing the crown B to brim A, the crown B being preferably for appearance and durability bound throughout its margin, as at 8.

Hence, the brim A and crown B may be compactly disposed in fiatwise superposed or rolled relation in a grip or the like. In use, the crown B is folded along the lines 5, 5, the tabs 6 threaded through the slits s, and the couplet-members 4, 1, engaged, as shown in Figures 1 and 4. The hat is thus simply and easily completed for wear and, when upon the head, is light in weight, cool and comfortable.

Reversely, the crown B may be readily disengaged from the brim A and the two members rolled or flatwise disposed to occupy small space for convenient portability.

The hat fulfills in every respect the objects stated, and it is to be understood that changes and modifications in the form, construction, arrangement, and combination of the parts of the hat may be made and substituted for those herein shown and described without departing from the nature and principle of my invention.

Having thus described my invention, What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. As a new article of manufacture, a hat including a brim-section having a head-opening and pairs of parallel slits, a crown-section having a central panel and opposite end-panels angularly disposed to the central panel, the endpanels being adapted to endwise rest on the brimsection for supporting and spacing the central panel over and from the head-opening, and means comprising tabs on the end-panels for engaging the brim-section at said slits for detachably securing said sections together in hatformation.

2. As a new article of manufacture, a hat including a brim-section having a head-opening and pairs of parallel slits, a crown-section having a central panel and opposite end-panels angularly disposed to the central panel, the end-panels being adapted to endwise rest on the brim-section for supporting and spacing the central panel over and from the head-opening, and means comprising tabs on the end-panels for engaging the brimsection at said slits and co-operable snap-couplet members on the tabs and brim section for detachably securing said sections together in hatformation.
