TOILET SEAT COVER PACKAGE I Filed Dec. 15, 1939 BY g ATTORNEY Patented Feb. 17, 1942 UNHTED STATES OFFICE 8 Claims.
This invention relates to improvements in toilet seat cover packages and has among other objects to provide a novel and simplified form of package for toilet seat covers, mounted in a dispenser in a simplified manner with a minimum amount of folding, so the seat covers may readily be successively removed from the dispenser without wrinkling or tearing.
Another object of my invention is to provide a package of thin paper toilet seat covers secured to a relatively heavy backing member in a novel and simple manner, so as to reduce folding of the covers, for insertion in a dispenser, and to permit ready insertion of the package of covers in the dispenser for successive removal by hand.
Other objects of my invention will appear from time to time as the following specification proceeds and with reference to the accompanying drawing wherein:
Figure l is a front view of a toilet seat cover dispenser with one end of the dispenser removed and parts of the dispenser broken away and in section, in order to show the seat covers in position in the dispenser;
Figure 2 is a front view of the seat covers mounted on a backing member outside of the dispenser and in an unfolded condition;
Figure 3 is a transverse sectional View taken through the dispenser adjacent one end thereof, in order to show certain details of my invention;
Figure 4 is a diagrammatic View showing the form each seat cover assumes when in the dispenser; and
Figure 5 is an enlarged detail view showing the method of detachably securing the seat covers to the backing member.
In the drawing, the embodiment of my invention illustrated is shown in connection with a dispenser iii, herein shown as being an oblong container of relatively shallow depth and adapted to hang vertically on a wall, with its longest sides extending horizontally. Said dispenser is provided with a back II and a cover l2, which may be hinged to the sides thereof, for opening, to permit insertion of the toilet seat cover package. The cover l2 of said dispenser is provided with a longitudinally extending opening I3, through which the seat covers may be removed. A hinged closure member [5 is provided on said cover, for closing said opening.
Referring now in particular to the novel form of toilet seat cover package in which my invention is embodied, a plurality of thin paper seat covers l6, ll; are provided. Said covers are adapted to be secured together in aligned relationship with respect to each other for dispensing, and each is formed to fit over a toilet seat and has a central oval portion closed by a flap il, when the cover is in the dispenser. Said flap may be held in an upright closed position, when the cover is in the dispenser, by means of nicks it, it, and when the seat cover is placed on the toilet seat, said flap is adapted to depend into the forward part of the toilet bowl.
A backing member 23 is provided to form a backing for the seat covers it, It, to hold them in position in the dispenser. Said backing member has said seat covers detachably mounted thereon, adjacent the upper end thereof. Said backing member may be made from cardboard or any other suitable material and is adapted to fit along the rear wall ll of the dispenser. A longitudinally extending slit or cut is provided adjacent the upper end of said backing member, as indicated at it in Figure 5, to permit ready folding of an upper end '23 thereof, so said upper end may extend horizontally along the inside of the upper end wall of the dispenser.
Tabs 2 at, projecting laterally from opposite sides of each seat cover it, are provided. Said tabs are adapted to be detachably secured to the horizontal portion of said backing member by a suitable securing means, such as, staples Said tabs, as herein shown, are located approximately a fourth of the way down from the top of said seat covers, said distance depending upon the size of the container it is desired to use. When said tabs are stapled to the horizontal portion of said backing member, the upper ends of said covers will hang loosely in said dispenser and eliminate one folding operation of said covers.
Before mounting the seat covers H3, IE on the backing member it, a lower portion 25 of each seat cover is folded back against the front face of the cover to permit said covers to conform to the size of said backing member and fit in the dispenser til. When the covers are in the dispenser, this folded portion extends upwardly to the opening it in the cover I2 of said dispenser. Thus, as one seat cover is removed from said dispenser, it allows the flap or lower folded portion 25 of the next adjacent cover to lie in a position adjacent the opening l3, to permit the successive removal of said covers by hand, as may clearly be seen in Figure 3.
When the backing member 2b is inserted in the dispenser, with the covers it, Hi stapled thereto on the tabs 24, 2d, the upper portion of said covers will depend downwardly from the horizontal portion of said backing member, and when in said dispenser will hang loosely along the cover l2 thereof and will be spaced from the major portion of said covers, to permit each cover to be readily pulled from said dispenser Without wrinkling or tearing.
It may be seen from the foregoing that a simplified form of package for toilet seat covers has been provided, which permits their insertion in a dispenser of smaller area than the area of the covers, with only one folding operation of the covers themselves, and that said covers are so mounted in the dispenser that they may readily be successively removed therefrom by hand without wrinkling, tearing or creasing,
While I have herein shown and described one form in which my invention may be embodied, it will be understood that the construction thereof and the arrangement of the various parts may be altered without departing from the spirit and scope thereof. Furthermore, I do not wish to be construed as limiting my invention to the specific embodiment illustrated, excepting as it may be limited in the appended claims.
I claim as my invention:
1. In a package for toilet seat covers, a plurality of aligned seat covers, a portion of each cover being folded over the body thereof, tabs projecting laterally from opposite sides of said covers adjacent but spaced from the ends thereof opposite from said folded portions of said covers, and a backing member to which said tabs are adapted to be secured in such a manner as to position said covers along said backing member and permit the ends of said covers opposite from said folded ends to hang downwardly along said covers in spaced relation with respect thereto, when said backing member is in a vertical position, so said tabs may be torn from said covers upon successive removal of said covers from said backing member.
2. In a, package for toilet seat covers, a plurality of aligned seat covers, a minor portion of each cover being folded over the body thereof, L
ends of said covers opposite from said folded ends thereof to hang downwardly along said covers in spaced relation with respect to said backing member, when said backing member is in a vertical position, and to permit said tabs to be torn from said covers upon successive removal of said covers from said backing member.
3. In a package for toilet seat covers, a substantially rigid backing member adapted to be vertically disposed, the upper portion of said backing member being slit longitudinally, to permit folding at right angles to the body thereof, and a plurality of thin paper seat covers adapted to be detachably secured to the horizontal portion of said backing member to permit successive removal from said backing member by hand, the main body of said covers extending downwardly along said backing member, the lower portion of each of said covers being folded upwardly over each cover away from said backing member and adapted to be gripped by the hand for successive removal from said backing memher, and tabs projecting laterally from opposite sides of said covers a substantial distance from the ends thereof opposite from said folded ends, said tabs being adapted to be secured to said horizontal portion of said backing member in such a manner that the upper ends of said covers will .be spaced from and depend from said backing member and said tabs may be torn from said covers upon successive removal of said covers from said backing member.
4. In a package for toilet seat covers, a plurality of thin paper toilet seat covers, a dispenser therefor, one end of each of said covers being folded over said respective cover, to extend upwardly when in said dispenser so successive folded ends of said covers will lie adjacent a dispensing opening in said dispenser, a rigid backing member, tabs projecting laterally from opposite sides of said seat covers, said tabs being spaced a substantial distance from the ends of said covers which are opposite from the folded ends thereof, said backing member being adapted to be folded to extend horizontally when in said dispenser, and said tabs being stapled to said horizontal portion of said backing member, to permit the upper ends of said seat covers to depend from said horizontal portion of said backing member along the side of said dispenser opposite from said backing member and to permit said tabs to be torn from said covers upon successive removal of said covers from said dispenser.
