Description
UNITED STATES PATENT QFFICEa ISAIAH B. ROBBINS, OF STOCKTON, CALIFORNIA.
KITCHEN-CABINET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 227,179, dated May 4,1880. Application filed September 22, 1879.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ISAIAH B. RoBBINs, of Stockton, county of San Joaquin, and State of California, have invented an Improved Kitchen-Oabinet; and I hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
My invention relates to certain improvements in kitchen-cabinets; and my improve ments consist in certain details of construction and combination of parts whereby the cabinet is enabled to hold flour and meal of different kinds, a rolling-board, rolling-pin, 850., all of which may be inclosed, and when ready for use the front drops down and slides out in a peculiar manner, so as to furnish a table on which bread may be mixed, as is more fully described in the accompanying drawings, in which-- Figure l is a view of the cabinet closed. Fig. 2 shows it open.
In the lower part of the case A are two cupboards or lockers, B, provided with doors, as shown. Above these the case is divided into four or more compartments, 0, which are intended to contain flour, meal, 850. A hinged leaf divided into two parts, D D, and having slides d, which fit into grooves a, is made to slide into the upper part of the case and partly cover the bins or compartments. The partitions forming said bins are so formed as to allow said leaf to slide part way over them when 'the swinging or hinged part D is folded over onto the part D. When the leaves are slid in the hinged door E is turned up and the cover F shut down, the door E being held by the lugs 0, which fit into the mortises bin the cover F, the upper part of the case with the bins being thus closed.
In the top of the case are slides 0, into which fits a bread-board, G. This bread-board is notched at the sides, as shown at f, and on resting on the unfolded leaf D D lugs g engage with these grooves f and keep said board in place. A partitioned drawer, H, also slides in the upper part of the case or cabinet, receptacles being formed by the partitions, in which spices, 860., may be kept.
When the cabinet is open and the leaves unfolded and drawn forward on the slides, said leaves form a table on which the bread-board is placed, as described. The bins are all open in front of the person at the table, and the drawer also is within convenient reach. All the appliances for making bread, pies, 850., are at hand immediately in front. When the operation is over the bread-board maybe put back in its slides, the draw closed, the leaves folded over and pushed back, and the front and cover closed, the whole being thus shut up out of the way and i'nclosed from the dust. The lower cupboards may be used for keeping any desired articles.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The cabinet A, with its lockers B, and meal compartments O above said lockers, and carrying the hinged folding sliding leaves or table D D, with the lugs g, said cupboard being provided with the bread-board G, fitted with notches f, and also the partitioned drawer H, and having the door E, with its lugs c, said door being held up by means of the mortises b in the cover F, substantially as and for the purpose herein described.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
ISAIAH B. ROBBINS.
