Description

Dec. 16, 1941. F, HAZEN TOE PROTECTOR Fi led Sept. 17, 1940 I INVENTOR Mabel FZJ-[azen Mm/1:,
Patented Dec. 16, 1941 TOE PROTECTOR Mabel F. Hazen, Sacramento, Calif.
Application September 17, 1940, Serial No. 357,098 1 Claim. (01. 2239) This invention relates in general to a protector adapted to be worn on a person's foot, and in garticular the invention is directed toand it is y principal object to provide-a novel protector to prevent the toes of a womans foot from catching or abutting at the end with the edges of the transverse straps of strap type sandals, and which otherwise is quite uncomfortable. In certain types of sandals, the toe portion comprises a plurality of spaced, transverse straps so disposed that the ends of certain of the wearers toes constantly catch on such straps at the edges, which is obviously undesirable, and is especially annoying when sheer hose is worn. My toe pr tectowprevents the occurrence of such catchin of the toes by properly shielding the same. At the same time, the wearing of the protector will not be noticed by another person. I v
A further object of the invention is to produce a simple and inexpensive device and yet one which will be exceedingly effective for the purpose for which it is designed.
These objects I accomplish by means of such structure and relative arrangement. of parts as will fully appear by a perusal of the following specification and claim.
In the drawing similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several views:
Figure -l is a perspective view of a strap type sandal on a wearers foot; the toe protector being inconspicuous or unseen.
Figure 2 is a top plan view of the on a persons foot.
Figure 3 is a bottom plan view of the toe protector.
Referring now more particularly to the characters of reference on the drawing, the toe protector comprises a, relatively wide top band I of elastic material; such band being of a length to extend-when under certain tensionfrom side toe protector to side of a person's foot in the plane of the toes,
and to extend down the sides of the foot.
A bottom section or pad 2 of soft non-stretchable material is connected, as at 3, between the opposite ends of top band I by means of stitching or suitable adhesive. As is clearly shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the toe protector tapers forwardly from the rear edge and this taper corresponds generally to the taper of a womans foot F; the bottom pad 2 being of slightly less width than the portion of the foot which is to engage in said protector, whereby the elastic top band extends not only down the sides of the foot but a short distance thereunder.
The sleeve-like foot protector above described is of such a size that top band I must be stretched and placed under tension when the protector is fitted onto a persons foot; the toes of the foot being engaged into the protector from the larger or rear end thereof. When properly positioned about the wearers toes, the rear edge 4 of the protector extends transversely of the toes adjacent the base thereof, while the forward edge 5 extends transversely adjacent the outer end of the big toe and adjacent toe; the other toes being entirely enclosed in the protector.
The protector is worn beneath the hose and prevents the ends of the toes from catching or abutting on the edges 6 of the straps I of a sandal 8; the reason for this being that the toes are held against individual upward movement and from the middle toe outwardly are fully covered by the protector.
As the protector is worn beneath the hose, it is not readily visible, while its flexible construction assures ease and comfort.
' From the foregoing description it will be readily seen that I have produced such a device as substantially fulfills the objects of the invention as set forth herein. I
While this specification sets forth in detail the present and preferred construction of the device, still in practice such deviations from s ch detail may be resorted to as do not form a departure from the spirit of the invention, as defined by the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and useful and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A toe protector comprising a sleeve including a bottom pad of non-elastic material, said bottom pad tapering from its rear edge forward and being of a width slightly less than the width of the portion of a person's foot adapted to engage in said sleeve, and a top band of elastic material connected at its ends with corresponding ends of the bottom pad; said top band being of a width to substantially cover a wearers toes when engaged in said sleeve, the front and rear edges of said top band being parallel and straight in a vertical plane.
MABEL F. HAZEN.
