This invention relates generally to cutting clippers and more particularly to hair clippers.

One of the objects of the present invention is to provide a new and improved hair clipper having provision for withdrawing severed hair from the cutting knife to a remote position during operation of the knife so that persons receiving a hair cut will not be littered with the severed hair or experience the uncomfortable feeling of having it inside their clothing.

Another object of the invention is to Yprovide a compact inexpensive hair clipper of the above mentioned character Another object of the invention is to provide a hair clipper having a handle in which a unitary structure including a cutting knife is readily removable.

Other objects of the invention will become apparent from the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing in which Figure 1 is a view shown partly in longitudinal central section and partly in elevation of a hair clipper embodying my invention;

Fig. 3 is a View `shown in cross section of the clipper taken along the line and in the direction of the arrows 3-3 of Fig. 2;

Referring to the drawing by characters of reference, the numeral IU designates in general a hair clipper having a hollow open ended supporting member or handle I I on one end of which is mounted a unitary removable structure including a reciprocal blade or knife I2 and a guard I3 therefor, the blade and guard having the usual cooperating spaced teeth, as shown. In the present instance, the handle I I is constructed of two longitudinal sections comprising an upper section I4 and a lower section I5 which are secured preferably by countersunk screws I6 to a base plate I1 which seats on upstanding bosses I8 integral of the lower handle section I5. Disposed in the handle II immediately beneath the base plate I'I is a single leaf spring I9 extending longitudinally of the handle and is held under tension by engagement with an extension or arm member of the guard I3, the frictional engagement between the guard extension and the leaf spring being the sole means of holding the clipper knife and guard to the handle so that they may be easily and quickly moved as a unitary structure, when desired.

Adjacent its inner end, the leaf spring I9 may be secured to the lower handle section I5 by a screw 2| and the leaf spring may be bowed upwardly as shown to engage the under surface of the extension or arm 2|] which adjacent its outer end may be secured to the guard I3 by screws 22 which also secure one end of a second leaf spring 23 to the guard I3, the other or outer end of the leaf spring 23 bearing on and holding the clipper blade or knife against and in proper relation to its guard I3. The base plate I'I is provided with spaced, integral upstanding bosses I'ia, within the handle, having aligning apertures to receive a preferably rigid drive shaft 24 which extends longitudinally of and Within the handle and operates a lever 25, the outer end of which lever engages in a socket 26 in the knife blade I2 to reciprocate the blade relative to its guard. The lever may be pivoted intermediate its ends by a screw 21 on an upstanding boss 28 of the lower handle section I5. Any suitable means may be provided to operatively connect the shaft 24 and the lever 25 and for simplicity, the shaft 24 is shown having on its forward end a cam or eccentric 29 engaging in an aperture 30 provided in the lever adjacent its inner end which is upturned, as shown.

The hollow handle I I is provided with an aperture in its rear end in which is tightly received an open ended tubular member 32 integral with the base plate Il and tightly fitted into the tubular member 32 is one end of a flexible conduit or hose 33 the other end of which communicates with the intake or suction side of a small portable fan or blower 34 in a housing 35 remote from the clipper. The fan housing 35 may have an integral, external hollow base 35 having a tapered inner wall surface diverging outwardly to receive tightly a tapering open ended fitting 31 in the outer end of which one end of the flexible conduit or hose 33 is tightly fitted. An electric motor 38, mounted on the fan housing 35 is provided to operate the fan through a drive shaft 39 and this motor also operates the reciprocal clipper blade I2, the motor 38 and the clipper driven shaft 24 being operatively connected by a fiexible shaft extending Within the flexible conduit or hose 33. Within the fan housing 35, the motor shaft 39 and one end of the flexible shaft 40 are connected by an intermediate shaft 4I which may be journaled in a bushing 42 integral of and within the fitting 31.

The fan housing 35 is provided with an outlet 43 which communicates with a container 44 preferably a collapsible bag to receive hair during operation of the clipper. A shoulder strap 45 may be provided to conveniently support the fan, motor and the bag which latter may at its outer end be supported by and attached to one end of a rigid bar 46 secured at its other end to the top of the fan housing 35.

What I claim is:

1. In a hair clipper with a casing containing a suction hair remover connected to a hair rej l,

ceiving bag, an elongated bag stiiener mounted onl said casing and connected to said bag remote from said casing, and a shoulder strap connected at one end to said casing and at the other end to the outer end of said bag stiener.

2. In a hair clipper with a casing containing a, suction hair remover connected to a hair receiving bag, a. bag stiiening rod having one end secured to said casing and the other end connected to the outer end of said Ybag, and a shoulder strap connected at one end to said casing and at the other end to the outer end of said rod.
