Application April 28, 1937, Serial No. 139,488
4 Claims.
The invention relates to improvements in reinforced boxes and has for its primary object the provision of an improved reinforced box of simple construction and highly efficient in use.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
The invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification and in which Fig. l is a perspective view, with portions broken away, of a reinforced box embodying the invention; and v Fig. 2 a diagrammatic view of the frames and cross slats employed in reinforcing the box.
to be limited to the precise details disclosed, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as fall within the scope of the appended claims.
Iclaim:
1. 'A reinforced box comprising a box body; frames loosely fitting against the inner sides of opposite walls of said body, each frame consisting of two vertical side bars connected at top and bottom by cross bars on their inner sides,
said cross bars being notched at their top and The embodiment of the invention illustrated in the drawing comprises an ordinary rectangular box l0 preferably made of paper, corrugated or solid fiber material, as indicated. Two reinforcing frames are inserted within the box against the inside end walls thereof. Each of said frames consists of vertical side bars ll connected on their inner sides at top and bottom by means of cross bars l2. The cross bars l2 are provided at their top and bottom corner edges with notches l3 which, in conjunction with the side bars H, form pockets for the reception of the ends of cross slats It as shown. Additional notches [5 are provided medially in the sides of the vertical side bars H for the reception of additional cross slats l6. f
In use and in operation, the frames "-42 are placed as shown within the box against the end walls thereof'and the cross slats l4 and I6 placed 'in position in the notches l3 and I5 and whereby the box is reinforced without the use of nails or other rigid connection between the portions of the reinforcing construction and yet will have the same rigidity as a nailed assembly. By this invention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. I therefore do not wish bottomcorner edges to form pockets; and cross slats loosely fitting in said pockets, said pockets and slats being so formed and arranged as to hold said frame separated and loosely against the walls of the body without other attachment between them.
-2. A reinforced box comprising a box body; frames loosely-fitting against the inner sides of opposite walls of said body, each frame consisting of two vertical side bars connected at top and bottom by cross bars'on their inner sides, said cross bars being notched at their top and bottom corner edges to form pockets, and said side bars being notched mediallyof their outside edges; and cross slats loosely fitting in said pockets and notches, said pockets and slats being so formed and arranged as to hold said frame separated and loosely against the walls of the body without other attachment between them.
sides of said notches to form pockets; and cross slats loosely fitting. in said pockets.
4. A reinforced box comprising a box body;
frames fitting against the inner sides of opposite walls of said body, each frame consisting of two vertical side bars connected at top and bottom by cross bars on their inner sides, said cross bars being notched at their top and bottom comer edges and said vertical bars closing the outer.
notches.
