Description
Sept. 13, 1938. P. SELENDI SHOE LAST Filed Dec. 16, 1936 Patented Sept. 13, 1938 UNITED STATES PATET OFFHIE 1 Claim.
My invention relates to a new and useful shoe last and is particularly directed towards providing a shoe last on which a shoe can be formed, the curvature of the arch being such as to pro- 5 vide support to all parts of the foot and while the curvature of the last is adaptable to all types of feet it is particularly beneficial for those which would otherwise require some form of arch support either built into the shoe or forming a separate part thereof.
The manner in which I attain the objects of my invention is by shaping the arch of the last in such a manner as to curve sharply and arcuately upwardly immediately to the rear of the ball of the foot in order that the arch of the shoe may be formed to press firmly against that part of the foot where the arch curves downwardly to meet the ball. The sharp convex curvature of the arch of the last, the convex surface facing towards the toe portion, then flattens to a smooth even curve extending towards the heel of the last.
To obtain a clear understanding of my invention, reference may be had to the following description and accompanying drawing in which:
Fig. 1 is a side elevation of the right side of a preferred embodiment of my last on which is formed a ladys right shoe.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the left side of the same last.
Fig. 3 is a bottom plan view of the last shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
Like reference characters refer to like parts throughout the specification and drawing.
The shoe last I illustrated in the drawing comprises the instep portion 2, the ball portion 3, the toe portion 4, the arch portion 5 and the heel portion 6.
The principal feature of my invention lies in the curvature of the arch portion 5 wherein it is curved arcuately from a point immediately to 5 the rear of the ball portion 3 to a height dependent on the height of the heel of the shoe formed on the last. As the curvature approaches its maxmum height it then curves very slightly downwards and to the rear of the heel portion 6.
I have found the type of curvature of the arch portion which I have invented is adaptable to lasts for all types of shoes, mens, womens and childrens and. may be varied in accordance with the desired height of heel. Obviously, of 15 course, the body of the last, such as the ball portion, heel, toe and arch portions must be varied in accordance with the type of shoe to be formed therefrom. Insofar as the curvature of the arch portion is concerned, however, I have 2 found that this type of curvature may be embodied in lasts for any of the above types of shoes.
Having thus fully described my invention what I claim is new and desire to secure by Letters 5 Patent is:
A shoe last of the class described in which the arch portion rises substantially vertically immediately rearwardly of the ball of the foot thence curves convexly to its highest point as deter- 30 mined by the height of the heel of the shoe formed on said last and from that point curves slightly downwardly across the arch portion towards the heel portion, the convex face of the first mentioned convex curvature pointing toward the toe 5 portion of said last.
PAUL SELENDI.
