Description
Patented Aug. 30, 1938 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFIQE 1 Claim.
The invention relates to a water heater and more especially to a portable electric water heater for stock watering tanks.
The primary object of the invention is the pro- 5 vision of a heater of this character, wherein the body of the same is jacketed in a manner for the circulation of water entirely about the electric heating units held within the body, the heater being adapted to be placed within a watering tank for stock and in this manner the water within the tank can be heated during cold weather.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a heater of this character, wherein the construction of the same is novel in form and can be readily placed within a watering tank for the heating of the water therein.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a heater of this character, which is simple in its construction, thoroughly reliable and efficient in operation, light in weight for rendering the same portable, yet strong, durable and inexpensive to manufacture.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, which discloses the preferred embodiment of the invention and pointed out in the claim hereunto appended.

Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawing.
Referring to the drawing in detail, A designates generally a portion of a water tank for the 5 watering of stock and is of any conventional form while B denotes generally the electric water heater constituting the present invention and hereinafter fully described.
The electric water heater B comprises a casing or housing [0 preferably of rectangular shape although it may be otherwise formed and includes a bottom ll, side and end walls l2 and I3, re spectively, and a removable hollow head l4 which is separably bolted at I in place.
Formed centrally in the casing or housing [0 and opening through its bottom II and into the hollow head I4 is a water circulating tube I6 while at the sides l2 and ends I3 of the casing or housing Ill are water circulating spaces 11, these opening through the bottom H and into the hollow head I4.
Interiorly of the casing or housing It and entirely about the tube It is an electric heating element including a plurality of resistance coils or heating units l8 which are in parallel in electric source of supply, the current wires of this source of supply being indicated at I9 and 20, respectively, and are preferably confined within a flexible conduit or pipe 2! suitably fitted with the casing or housing Ill.
The chamber 22 for the electric heating element including the units l8 has arranged therein an insulating lining 23 while the head M is bolted, there being a gasket 24 arranged between this head and the said housing or casing to avoid leakage of water at this point.
The head [4 at opposite ends is provided with holes or openings 22 so that water will discharge therefrom during the circulation of such water through the tube It, spaces I1 and head it in the working of the heater. At the bottom H of the casing or housing ID are legs or feet 26 which elevate the said housing or casing the proper height when at rest upon the bottom of the tank A on the placing of the heater therein. These legs or feet 26 are preferably located at the lower four corners of the casing or housing Ill.
When the heater is placed within the tank A and the latter contains water, the circulation of the same during the heating period will be had through the tube it, spaces il and head id as is indicated by the arrows in Figures 1 to 4 of the drawing. In this manner the Water within the tank A will become heated during the use of the tank in cold weather for the watering of stock.

What is claimed is:
An electric water heater comprising a casing having a bottom, side and end walls, respectively, a removable hollow head topping said casing, said casing having spaces inwardly of and next to the sides and ends thereof and opening into the hollow head and also through the bottom of the casing, a tubular column formed with the said casing and opening through the bottom thereof and into the hollow head, and an electric heating element including a plurality of resistance coils disposed concentrically about the said column interiorly of the casing between the bottom and the said head.
