2 Claims.

This invention relates to new and useful improvements in tooth powder containers.

One object of my invention is to provide a container of the character specified that will release just the proper amount of powder, at each operation, for cleaning the teeth.

A further object of my invention is to provide a tooth powder container, in which provision is made for depositing the correct amount of powder for cleaning the teeth, directly on the tooth brush, and without spilling any of the powder, as distinguished from the unsatisfactory methods now commonly employed of first emptying a quantity of powder in one hand and placing it on the tooth brush with the other hand.

With the foregoing and other objects in view that will appear as the nature of my invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts illustrated in the accompanying drawing and more particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

Figure l is a side elevation, partly in section, of a tooth powder container constructed in accordance with my invention.

Figure 3 is a horizontal section, taken on line 3-3 of Figure 2.

Figure i is a rear elevation, partly in section, of a tooth powder container of the stationary or wall type, and Figure 5 is a vertical transverse section, taken on line 5-5 of Figure 4, looking in the direction indicated by the arrows.

Referring to the drawing for a more particular description of my invention, and in which drawing like parts are designated by like reference characters throughout the several views, the numeral i represents the cylindrical body of the container and 2 the cover or lid.

'In carrying out my invention, the lid 2 is formed on its outer face with a central longitudinally disposed neck 3, of substantially hollow elliptical form in cross section, divided by the straight fiat horizontal wall or partition 4, into the upper powder compartment 5 and the lower 50 larger tooth brush receiving compartment 6.

The partition 4 is formed at one side with an elongated longitudinal slot or opening I, normally covered by the flat strip or shuttle 8. The strip orshuttle 8 is formed at its inner end with 55 a transverse sliding arm 9, which works against the inner face of the lid 2. The arm 9 is equipped with a suitable handle or knob Ill for the convenience of the operator, and the stem ll of this knob works in a corresponding slot l2 in the lid. The inner end of the arm 9 is provided with a cover plate l9, adapted to close an opening it in the lid 2, which communicates with the inner end of the powder compartment 5. The cover plate is works in a rectangular housing l5, secured to the inner wall or face of the lid and formed with an opening it disposed in registration with the opening l4 aforesaid. The compartment 6 is open at its outer end, as at ll, to receive the head of the tooth brush.

In practice, the head of the tooth brush is first inserted in the compartment 6, and the shuttle 8 is then shifted on the partition 4 to uncover the slot or opening l.

This operation releases just to the wall or other support.

In this instance,

the slot 29 in the upper wall 2i of the brush compartment 22, is normally closed by the shuttle 23, equipped With the operating handle 24.

From the foregoing description, taken in con nection with the drawing, it is thought that the construction, operation and advantages of my invention will be readily understood, without requiring a more extended explanation.

Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:

1. In .a tooth powder container of the character specified, a body, a lid for the body and a hollow neck carried by the lid, said neck formed with a longitudinally disposed slotted partition whereby it is divided into an upper powder com.- partment and a lower brush receiving compartment and a manually operated shuttle for opening and closing the slot in said partition, substantially as and for the purpose specified.

2. In a tooth powder container of the character specified, a body, a lid for the body and. a hollow elongated neck carried by the lid, said neck divided into an upper powder compartment and a lower brush receiving compartment by a longitudinally disposed slotted partition, and a manually operated shuttle for opening and closing the slot in said partition and simultaneously closing and opening the inner end of the powder compartment.
