This invention has reference to a holder for an automobile registration card or certificate, and an object of the inventionis to provide a holder of this character whereby the registration card is securely sealed within the holder, and whereby the holder is in turn so mounted and sealed that unauthorized access to the registration card may be readily detected.
The invention together with its objects and advantages will be best understood from a study of the following description taken in connection Figure 6 is a plan View of a tab hereinafter more fully referred to.
Referring to the drawings by reference numerals it will be seen that the holder comprises a substantially rectangular frame 5 equipped at each of the four corners thereof with an opening 6 for accommodating screws or similar fastening elements 'I through the medium of which the frame 5 is secured to some selected part8 of an automobile.
At the inner edges of the members of the frame 5 there is provided a continuous flange 9 that has its free edge bent inwardly in a plane paralleling the frame 5 as at H! and serving as a continuous retaining lip for a transparent, such as glass, panel II.
Fitting conformably within the confines of the frame 5 is a tray I2 which receives the registration certificate I3 and the transparency II as clearly shown in Figures 3 and 4.
At opposite sides thereof the tray I 2 has secured thereto securing flanges or tabs I4 that have free end portions provided with apertures registering with apertures provided in opposite sides of the frame 5 whereby to accommodate eyelets I5 through the medium of which the tray I2 is positively secured within the confines of the frame 5. (See Figures 2, and 4.)
There is also provided a lid or cover plate I6 which in closed position receives therein the flange 9 of the frame and completely conceals the contents of the tray I2. The lid I6 at its upper edge is provided with a flange I! that, has therein an elongated slot I8 to accommodate a relatively narrow hinge-constituting lip or flange extension I9 on the frame 5 in a manner clearly shown in Figures 1 and 3 whereby the lid I6 is hing-ed to 5 the frame 5.
At the lower edge thereof the lid I6 is provided with a flange 20 having therein a key-hole slot 2|, the largest end of which accommodates an eyelet 22 carried by the frame 5 and through the medium of which eyelet a. finger latch 23 is pivoted to the lower member of the frame 5. With the latch member 23 in the position shown in Figure 1, it will be seen that said latch member will serve to releasably secure the lid I6 in closed position.
Further in accordance with the present invention there are provided two seals each of which is indicated generally by the reference numeral 24, and each seal is of conventional construction consisting of a flexible wire rod 25 and an apertured button 26 which receives the respective opposite ends of the rods after they have been trained through apertures 21 in flexible sealing tabs 28, These tabs 28 have enlarged aper- 25 tured ends 29 through which the fastening elements I pass for securing the tabs at the corners of the frame with the tabs bent over the heads of the fastening elements I as clearly shown in Figures 1 and 5. 30
It will be seen that with a certificate holder of this character the certificate is readily sealed within the holder and yet may be readily viewed by one so desiring by merely raising the cover or lid I6. Also the holder is in effect sealed to the support on which it may be mounted so that unauthorized removal of the holder can be readily detected.
It is thought that a clear understanding of the construction, utility and advantages of an invention of this character will be had without a more detailed description.
Having thus described the invention what is claimed as new is:
1. A holder for automobile registration certificates and the like comprising an attaching frame, a tray for the certificate fitting conformably within said frame, means engaging opposite sides of the frame and said tray for positively securing the latter within the frame, a transparency fitting conformably within the tray with the certificate interposed between the bottom of the tray and said transparency, and said frame having a continuous retaining flange at the inner edge thereof overlying said transparency for retaining the latter securely within said tray; said frame being provided at the corners thereof with means to accommodate fastening elements whereby said frame may be secured to a suitable support, fastening elements for securing said frame to such support, and seals connecting said fastening elements in pairs, each of said seals extending longitudinally of the frame at a side thereof secured to said tray whereby a breaking of the respective seals is necessary to subsequently effect a separation of the tray and frame.
2. A holder for automobile registration certificates and the like comprising an attaching frame, a tray for the certificate fitting conformably within said frame, means engaging opposite sides of the frame and said tray for positively securing the latter within the frame, a transparency fitting conformably within the tray with the certificate interposed between the bottom of the tray and said transparency, and said frame having a continuous retaining flange at the inner edge thereof overlying said transparency for retaining the latter securely within said tray; said frame being provided at the corners thereof with holes to accommodate fastening elements whereby said frame may be secured to a suitable support, fastening elements for securing said frame to such support, seals connecting said fastening elements in pairs, each of said seals extending longitudinally of the frame at a side thereof secured to said tray whereby a breaking of the respective seals is necessary to subsequently effect a separation of the tray and frame, and a cover member for said tray hinged at one side thereof to said frame, together with a latch member pivotally mounted on the frame and engageable with said cover member for releasably securing the latter in closed position with respect to said tray.
3. A holder for registration cards and the like comprising an attaching frame having at the inner edges of its members a continuous flange provided with an inwardly directed flange extension, and a tray conformably fitting within said frame with the walls of the tray at the open side of the latter abutting said flange extension, said tray adapted to receive therein a registration card or the like and a transparency confined within said tray, said frame being adapted to be secured to a support with the tray confined between the support and said continuous flange extension, and a lid for said tray hinged at one side thereof to said frame, a latch member for said lid pivoted to said frame at the side thereof opposite to the lid hinge and said lid having at the side thereof opposite to said hinge an outstanding flange provided with a slot to accommodate said latch member.
