. This invention relates to a dolls head and eyes therefor.
An object of this invention is to provide a dolls head having highly improved eyes adapted to move simultaneously sideways to the right or left.
A further object of this invention is to provide in a molded dolls head a highly improved dolls eye unit having gravity actuated, pivoted dolls eye balls adapted to move simultaneously.
A still further object of this invention is to provide a neat, compact and durable doll construction of the character described, which shall comprise comparatively few and simple parts,
. be relatively inexpensive to manufacture, smooth and positive in operation, attractive in appearance, and withal practical and. efficient to a high degree in use.
Other objects of this invention will in part be obvious and in part hereinafter pointed out.
The invention accordingly consists in the features of construction, combinations of elements, and arrangement of parts which will be exemplified in the construction hereinafter described, and of which the scope of application will be indicated in the following claims.

Referring now in detail to the drawing, l0 designates doll structure embodying the invention, comprising a molded dolls head I I provided with a pair of eye sockets or openings 12. Extending rearwardly from the front of the dolls head and between the sockets I2 is a projection l3 formed with a horizontal slot l4. Received within the slot I4 is a cross bar I5 retained within the slot by glue, cement or any other suitable material l1,
placed within the slot after the bar has been put 7 I in position.
Mounted on each end of the bar is an eye unit l8 forming part of my invention. Each unit i8 comprises a cup '20 preferably made of sheet material and having a rear wall 2| and an annular or cylindrical wall 22. A pair of tabs 23.may be cut from the material of the rear wall 2! and folded around the bar l5 for attaching the cup to the bar.
Received within the cup 22' is a member 25 likewise made of thin sheet material and having a cylindrical portion 26 telescoping within the portion 22 of the member 20, and a forwardly curved portion 2'! formed with an eye shaped opening 28. The outer edge of the cylindrical wall 22 is bent inwardly, as at 22a, to engage the curved portion 21 forassembling the parts 20 and 25. Said cylindrical wall 26 is furthermore formed with a pair 'of diametrically disposed bearing openings 38 for the purpose hereinafter explained.
Received within the member I8 is an eye ball 32 made ofglass or any other suitable material and having painted on the front surface 32a thereof an iris 33. The eye ball 32 is circular and of kidney bean, axial, cross-sectional shape, the surface 32a being a part spherical surface. Fixed within the rear of the eye ball 32 is a piece of wire 34 having a central looped portion 35 embedded within said eye ball and having outwardly extending, aligned arms 36. jour'naled within the openings of said cylindrical portion 26. Preferably the arms 36 pass through the center of curvature of the surface 32a and form an axis of rotation for said member.
As shown in Fig. 5 the arms 36 are vertically disposed so that upon tilting the head sideways,
the eye member 32 will pivot to one side. Obviously the eye members 32 move simultaneously from side to side depending upon the direction the doll is tilted.
As shown in Fig. 10, the arms 36 may be disposed horizontally whereby the eye members 32 will swing up and down instead of sideways.
It will thus be seen that there is provided a device in which the several objects of this invention are achieved, and which is well adapted to meet the conditions of practical use.
As various possible embodiments might be made of the above invention, and as various changes might be made in the embodiment above set forth, it is to be understood that all matter herein set forth or shown in the accompanying drawing, is to be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. In doll construction, a bar, a cup having a rear wall fixed to said bar, a member telescoping within said cup and fixed thereto and having a curved wall formed with an eye opening, an eye ball having a part spherical surface registering with said eye openings disposed between said cup and member and pivoted to said member on an axis passing through the center of curvature of said part-spherical surface. a 1

horizontal bar mounted on said projection and extending on opposite sides thereof, an eye unit mounted on each end of said bar, each eye unit comprising a cage consisting of acuphaving a rear wall provided with means engaging said bar, and a cylindrical Wall extending fromsaid rear wall, and a member telescoping within said cup and having an annular wall received within said cylindrical wall of the cup, and a curved front Wall formed with an eye opening, the front edge of said cylindrical wall being bent inwardly to engage said curved wall, the eye openings in the curved walls of said cages registering with said eye sockets, and an eyeball within each cage, said eyeballs registering with said eye openings and eye sockets.

Aneye unit comprising a cage and an eyeball within said cage, said cage comprising a cup having a'rear wall and a cylindrical wall extending from said rear wall, a member telescoping within said cup having a front curved wall, and an annular wall extending rearwardly' from said .curved wall and received within said cylindrical Wall, the front edge of said cylindrical wall being bent inwardly into engagement with said curved front wall, said curved Wall being formed with an eye opening, said eyeball having a part-spherical surface registering with said eye opening, and a member made of a single piece of wire having a looped intermediate portion embedded within the rear of said eyeball and aligned outer ends journaled in diametrically disposed openings formed in said annular wall, said aligned portions of the wire member passing through the center of ourvature of said eyeball.
4. In doll construction, a dolls head having a pair of eye sockets, a horizontal bar fixed within the dolls head and having outer ends aligned with said eye sockets, a cage mounted on each end of said bar, each cage comprising acup having a rear wall, and a cylindrical wall, means on said rear Wall for engaging said bar, and a member telescoping within said cup and having a front wall formed with an eye opening and an annular wall received within said cylindrical wall of the cap, the front edge of said cylindrical wall extending inwardly into engagement with said front 5. 6. 111 doll construction, a dolls head having a pair of eye sockets and aprojection extending rearwardly from the interior of the front'of the dolls head and between the eye sockets, said projection having a horizontal slot at the rear end thereof, a horizontal bar having the mid-portion thereof received within said slot, and an eye unit mounted on each end of said bar, each eye unit comprising a cage consisting of a cup having a rear wall and a cylindrical wall, said rear wall having a pair of tabs cut from the material thereof and receiving said bar therebetween, and a member telescoping within said cup and having a curved front wall formed with an eye opening, and an annular wall received within the cylindrical wall of the cup, the front edge of said cylindrical 'wall being bent inwardly to engage said curved wall; the eye openings in the curved walls of said cages registering with said eye sockets, an eyeball having a part-spherical surface disposed within each cup, and a member madeof a single piece of wire having a looped intermediate portion embedded within the rear of each eyeball, and aligned outer ends journalled in openings in each annular wall, said aligned portions of the wire member passing through the center of curvature of the eyeball, said eyeballs,
