Description
Whu'ch 1, 193. B. PoLAK 2,111,328
HAIR SLIDE Filed April 1, 1957 \NVENTOR Boa-mm Fob/W BY MVJW ATTOR'IVE VS Patented Mar. 15, 1938 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 4 Claims.
The invention relates to a hair clasp comprising a channel-like upper or main member and a clamping or retaining member whose free end is attachable to or detachable from the end of said upper member.
The invention consists in the particular construction of the hinge connection between the upper part and the retaining part which makes it possible substantially to simplify production as compared with known constructions.
One constructional example of the hair clasp is shown in the drawing. Fig. 1 is a side view of the hair slide or clasp in the open position, the portion of the upper part of the hair clasp to which the clamping part is connected being shown in vertical section. Fig. 2 is a section along the line IL-II of Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 is a plan of the hair clasp, only the portion of the upper part to which the retaining part is connected being shown the rest or" such part being broken away.
The hair clasp consists in the usual manner of the upper part t and the retaining part 5. The upper part is made channel shaped. At a certain distance from the ends of the upper part the side walls of the channel forming this upper part are provided with teeth 6. At or near one end one of the side walls of the upper part is provided with a protruding ear l turned at its end to form a knob or catch 8, for example an oblong shaped knob.
The retaining part 5 may be made of wire in the shape of a flattened loop or stirrup the limbs of which at the free end thereof are spaced apart to such an extent that they can be elastically spread apart when pressed over the knob or catch 8 and will approach each other again underneath the knob 8 so that the free end of the retaining part is held securely to the upper part.
The jointed connection of the retaining part with the upper part is effected, according to the invention, in the following manner.
Near the end of each limb of the retaining part 5, a local bend 9, iii is provided the summit of which lies close to the inner face of the rear portion ll of the upper part. Out of each side wall of the channel-shaped upper part 4 is pressed a projection I2, l3 which intrudes into the local bend ii, I. Since the distance between the side walls of the upper part is equal to double the diameter of the wire of which the retaining part do is formed, or is only slightly larger, a jointed connection between the upper part and the retaining part is obtained. In this connection the free ends M, I 5 of the limbs of the retaining part serve to limit the extreme position of the retaining part when the slide is Open (Fig. 1) by iii abutting against the rear portion ll of the upper part.
As many possible embodiments may be made of the above invention and as many changes might be made in the embodiment above set forth, it 5 is to be understood that all matter hereinbefore set forth or shown in the accompanying drawing is to be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.
What I claim is:-
1. A hair clasp comprising a channel-shaped upper member and a looped retaining member, bulgings provided near the ends of the limbsof said looped member, said bulgings being directed towards the rear face of the channel-shaped 15 member, projections on said channel-shaped member each supporting one of said bulgings and forming a pivot therefor, said projections being pressed out of the oppositely disposed side walls of the channel-shaped member, the free ends of 20 said limbs of the retaining member being arranged to abut against the rear portion of the channel-shaped member so as to limit the opening movement of the retaining member.
2. A hair clasp comprising a channel-shaped upper member and a looped retaining member, bulgings provided near the ends of the limbs of said looped member, said bulgings being directed towards the rear face of the channel-shaped member, projections on the oppositely disposed side walls of said channel-shaped member supporting said bulgings and thereby forming a pivot for the retaining member, the free ends of said limbs of the retaining member being arranged to abut against the rear portion of the 5 channel-shaped member so as to limit the opening movement of the retaining member.
3. A hair clasp comprising a channel-shaped upper member and a looped retaining member, bulgings provided near the ends of the limbs of said looped member, said bulgings being directed towards the rear face of the channel-shaped member, projections on said channelshapecl member each supporting one of said bulgings and forming a pivot therefor, said projections being pressed out of the oppositely disposed side walls of the channel-shaped member, an ear-piece formed on said channel-shaped member and having an overhanging head, the limbs at the looped end of said retaining member being so spaced apart that they can be sprung over said head, the free ends of said limbs of the retaining member being arranged to abut against the rear portion of the channel-shaped member so as to limit the opening movement of the retaining member.
forming a pivot for the retaining member, the free ends of said limbs of the retaining member being arranged to abut against the rear portion of the channel-shaped member so as to limit the opening movement of the retaining member.
