13 Claims.
This invention relates to writing pads in which the notes are made visible by the sticking of a light adhering layer onto a dark ground layer.
Such writing pads which are known per se serve the purpose of making notes which may simply be obliterated by separating the light adhering layer from the dark ground layer whereafter the writing pad may again be used for writing or taking notes.
The known writing pads have the drawback that it is not possible to arbitrarily obliterate single parts of the notes because the obliterating process always has to start from one end of the writing pad.
In order to prevent this drawback it is an object of the invention to provide in a writing pad of the kind described comprising a dark ground layer and a transparent light layer means adapted to separate respective portions of said transparent layer from said ground layer.
It is another object of the invention to provide means which are adapted to separate respective individual strips of said transparent layer from said ground layer.
For this purpose a still further object of the invention consists in a plurality of separating devices between said layers, each of said devices adapted to be moved between said layers independently of the other devices in the direction of the respective strips.
It is a further object of the invention to provide in a writing pad of the kind described a dark ground layer comprising a plurality of stripshaped independent ground layer portions and a 35 plurality of means adapted to take off respective ground layer portions from the transparent layer of the writing pad.
These and further objects of the invention will be more clearly understood when the description proceeds, reference being had to the accompanying drawings showing embodiments of the in-- vention in which Fig. 1 shows a plane view of a writing pad according to the invention having bolts for guiding the separating members,
Fig. 2 shows a cross-section along line a-a of Fig. 1,
Fig. 3 shows another modification of a writing pad having wires for guiding the separating members,
Fig. 4 shows a cross-section along line 12-1) of Fig. 3,
Fig. 5 shows a further modification of a writing pad having special grooves for guiding the separating members,
Fig. 6 shows a cross-section along line c--c of Fig. 5,
Fig. 7 shows a plane view of a writing pad having separating devices with draw-springs,
Fig. 8 shows a cross-section along line dd of Fig. '7,
Fig. 9 shows a plane view of still a further modification of the writing pad having separating devices with pressing springs, and
Fig. 10 shows a cross-section along line e-e of Fig. 9.
Referring more specifically to the drawings in which similar parts are designated with the same reference numbers, I designates the frame of a writing pad having a transparent light layer 2 and a dark ground layer 3 and which is suitably provided with a transparent protecting layer 4. The writing surface is designated with 5.
In the embodiments of the invention shown in Figs. 1 to 6 between the light transparent layer 2 and the dark ground layer 3 elongated separating members 6 are provided which may be moved horizontally i. e. in the direction of the written lines between the transparent layer 2 and the ground layer 3. The separating members 6 are arranged vertically to and adapted to be moved in the direction of the horizontal strips 22. They are adapted to be moved between the two layers 2 and 3 for separating the same but are arranged normally outside of the writing surface 5 and below frame I.
In the modification shown in Figs. 1 and 2 each of the separating members 6 is provided with a displacing device 1 which is arranged at the back 8 of the ground layer 3 and which is connected with the respective separating member 6 by means of bolts 9 or the like. The bolts 9 are arranged in horizontal longitudinal slots I!) provided in ground layer 3. In this manner the separating members 6 are movable by means of the displacing devices 1 in the direction of the horizontal strips 22 and are adapted to be displaced between layers 2 and 3 for separating the two layers from each other.
In the modification shown in Figs. 3 and 4 separating members 6 are moved by means of displacing devices I which are guided together with the separating members 6 by means of guiding wires I I or the like which run around ground layer 3. The displacing devices 1 are attached to the guiding wires II at the back of ground layer 3.
In the further modification shown in Figs. 5 and 6 each of the separating members 6 is pro- Vided with a displacing device I which is guided in guiding grooves I2 or the like. The guiding grooves I2 run along the plane of ground layer 3 outside of writing surface 5 in the direction of the horizontal strips 22. As can be clearly seen in Fig. 6 the displacing devices I are guided in guiding grooves I2 by means of suitably formed guiding cams I3 which connect at the same time the displacing devices I with the separating members 6.
The actuating of separating members 6 and thereby the separation of the two layers 2 and 3 from each other in each horizontal strip 22 takes place in all of the above described embodiments in the same manner by moving the displacing device I in the direction of the horizontal strips 22.
In the modification shown in Figs. '7 and 8 the dark ground layer 3 is divided into individual ground layer parts I4 having the shape of horizontal strips which are suitably provided with guiding walls 23. Each of the ground layer parts I4 may be pressed by means of a lever-like device I5 onto the light transparent layer 2 while for separating the same lever-like device I5 is turned around its axis of rotation I 6 into its middle position. Hereby sides I! are taken off of ground layer I4 which is allowed to follow the action of draw-spring I8 and is separated from the transparent layer 2. Thus the notes are obliterated. For pressing ground layer 3 onto the transparent layer 2 lever I9 is turned in the direction indicated by the arrow.
In the modification shown in Figs. 9 and 10 the ground layer 3 is divided into ground layer parts I4 which are pressed by means of pressing springs 20 onto the adhering layer 2. In order to take off the individual ground layer parts I4 keys 2| are arranged outside the writing surface 5 for actuating the layer parts I4. By pressing 1 keys 2| the individual ground layer parts I4 are taken off the adhering layer 2 and thus the notes are obliterated.
At one side of the writing surface the individual ground layer parts I4 may be hinge-like fixed so that the separating takes place by actuating only the keys 2I at the other side of the writing pad. The keys 2| may be provided with looking devices by means of which it is possible to fix the transparent layer 2 in its pressed position against layer 3 when the writing pad is to be used for taking notes.
It falls within the scope of the invention to subdivide the light transparent layer in individual horizontal strip-like transparent layer parts instead of the ground layer parts and to press each transparent layer part by means of springs or the like against the ground layer and to provide means for taking oiT the individual transparent layer parts from the ground layer against the action of such springs.
It is believed from the above description that those skilled in the art will have no difiiculty in understanding the construction, the method of use and operation of the device herein disclosed and a detailed discussion thereof is un necessary. The invention is of simple and practical construction and is adapted to accomplish among others all of the objects and advantages herein set forth.
Without further analysis, the foregoing will so fully reveal the gist of this invention that others can by applying current knowledge readily adapt it for various applications without omitting certain features, that, from the standpoint of the prior art, fairly constitute essential characteristics of the generic or specific aspects of this invention, and therefore such adaptations should and are intended to be comprehended within the meaning and range of equivalency of the following claims.
