V'Also longitudinally stitched tothe wall locking means -for such articles. section i2 is a web 22, which supports interlocking One of the objects of `myl invention is to provide fastening elements 23, which engage the fastening 5 aportfolio,` case or similar article of manufacture elements i9, when the cro-acting slide 23a is lon- 6 which can be 'carried by a handle and ywhich if eitudinally moved. The top of the inside of the walls, when thewalls are locked 5 the other wall l2, is also folded over asat 20 and together, the handle when moved to the position 55 shown in Figure 4, will be retained therein by the close fit therebetween.
Referring to the modified form of handle support shown in Figures 5 and 6, I provide a pin 50, which fits within the sleeve 5I. The supports for the handle are mounted similar to that described in connection with Figures 1 to 4 inclusive. The sleeve 52 extends beyond the wall Il to form a male member 51a which has an annular recess 52, which is to be engaged by the locking member generally indicated as 53. The locking member 53 is formed of two plates, 54 and 55, which are secured together to provide a housing for the latch member 55, which is tensioned upwardly by a spring 51. The plate 54 has projections 54a which pass through suitable openings in the plate 55, and through the wall of the portfolio and through the supporting plate 55a on the opposite side of the wall and are bent thereagainst to hold said unit in place. It will be seen that all the plates as well as the wall have aligned openings for the passage therethrough of the male member and that after the male member is in the position shown in Figure 6, the latch member 55, will be urged upwardly to engage the male member in the recess and lock. the male member against withdrawal unless the plate is depressed by means of its flange 58.
It will be understood that various modications, and changes can be made without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention. What I desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
l. In a portfolio of the class described comprising side walls having marginal portions at the top thereof, a web having interlocking fastening elements secured to each of said walls and when interlocked arranged to form a channel with said marginal portions, transversely extending handle supporting elements secured on one of said marginal portions below the plane of the top edge thereof, locking members secured on the opposite marginal portion and adapted to releasably engage the handle supporting elements, handle engaging means swingably supported by said elements, a handle member secured to said means and arranged to be longitudinally movable to a position between said marginal portions within said channel and below the plane of the top marginal edge thereof, said handle member arranged to be further movable to assume a hand engaging position above the plane of the upper edge of said marginal portions.
2. In a portfolio of the class described comprising side walls having longitudinally extending marginal portions, transversely extending handle' supporting elements permanently secured to one of said marginal portions below the plane of the top edge thereof, locking members secured on the opposite marginal portion and adapted to releasably engage the handle supporting elements, handle engaging means swingably supported by said elements, a handle member mounted on said means and arranged to be longitudinally movable to a position between said marginal portions and below the plane of the top marginal edge thereof, said handle member arranged to be further movable to assume a hand engaging position above the plane of the top edge of said marginal portions.
3. In a portfolio of the class described comprising side walls having longitudinally extending marginal portions at the top thereof, handle supporting elements secured to one of said marginal portions below the plane of the top edge thereof, cooperating receiving elements secured on the opposite marginal portion and adapted to releasably engage said handle supporting elements, handle engaging means swingably supported by said elements, a handle mounted on said means and adapted to be longitudinally movable to assume a position above and below the plane of the top edge of said marginal portions.
4. in a bag of the class described. comprising side walls having longitudinally extending marginal portions forming the mouth of said bag, transversely extending handle supporting elements secured on one of said marginal portions below the plane of the top edge thereof, locking elements secured on the opposite marginal portion to receive said handle supporting elements and retain said marginal portions in locked position, handle engaging means swingably supported by said elements, a handle member secured to said means and of a transverse width so that it can be longitudinally moved between said marginal portions below the top edges thereof.
