1 claim. `(c1. 'z2-136) This invention relates `to an attachment for use in connection with masons trowels or the like tools used in working plaster, the primary object of the invention being to provide means whereby the trowel or tool may be employed in working out a texture on a surface of plaster or plastic paint.
Another important object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which will present a smooth and cushioned tool for contact with the surface under treatment insuring a smooth and even surface being formed. With the foregoing and otherobjects in view, which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the .details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein described, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Referring to the drawing:
Figure 1 is a perspective View of a plasterers trowel equipped with an attachment constructed in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken on line 2--2 of Figure 1.
Referring to the .drawing in detail, a trowel is indicated by the reference character 5, the trowel being provided with the usual` handle 6.
The attachment forming the subject matter of the present invention is indicated generally by the reference character l, and is constructed preferably of soft pliable rubber shaped to conform to the shape of the tro'wel with` which it is used.
As shown, the body portion of the attachment is formed with an inwardly extended flange 8 which is substantialy thick and spaced from the base or bottom of the body portion providing a groove for the reception of the edge of the trowel blade, and since the attachment is constructed of rubber, it is obvious that the flange 8 may be easily stretched over the edge of the trowel blade 5, where it will` securely grip the trowel blade, holding the body portion against displacement when the tool is being moved over the surface under treatment.
The space between the flange 8 and body portion is appreciably wider than the thickness of the blade with which it is used providing` an additional space for the reception of the layer of shape of thetrowel blade. understood that the` layer of felt 9 is held in position by the body portion of the attachment.
From the foregoing it will be obvious that due to the construction of the attachment, the ordinary plaster workers trowel may be readily converted for use as a tool for working out a texture on a plaster surface or surface coated with plastic paint, and because of the cushioned rubber surface, the surface will conform to irregularities and contact the entire surface and even the surface.
I claim:
An attachment for covering the working surface of a trowel, comprising a body portion shaped to conform to the shape of the trowel blade with which it is used, said body portion being constructed of rubber material and having a groove defining an` upper flange adapted to closely engage the upper surface of the trowel blade securing said body portion in position on the blade, and a padding member of a shape conforming to the shape of the blade, held in position by said body portion between the blade and body portion.
