2 Claims.
The present invention relates to door closers designed primarily for use in connection with screens or storm doors and has for its primary object to provide a device of this character adapted for positioning inside of the door and embodies a spring controlled lever adapted to normally urge the door into a closed position.
A further important object of the invention is to provide means for regulating the tension of the spring.
A still further object is to provide a device of this character of simple and practical construction, which is strong and durable, relatively inexpensive to manufacture, which may be installed in operative position without necessitating any changes or alterations in the construction of the door and which at the same time is otherwise well adapted for thepurposes for which the same is intended.
Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout and in which:
Figure 1 is a bottom plan view of the door closer shown in position attached to the door.

Figure 3 is a vertical sectional view taken substantially on the line 3-3 of Figure 4.
Figure 4 is a sectional view taken substantially on the line 4-4 of Figure 2.

Referring now to the drawings in detail wherein for the purpose of illustration I have disclosed 40 a preferred embodiment of the invention, the

A yoke II is provided with opening 12 in its end portion for freely mounting on a sleeve l3 positioned on the bolt, the sleeve having a squared portion !4 on one end thereof for fixedly connecting a toothed wheel l5 thereon.
A coil spring IB is positioned about the sleeve, one end ll of the spring being inserted through an opening l8 formed in the sleeve while the other end of this spring is bent downwardly for engaging one end of the yoke as shown at l9. Washers 26 are positioned at each end of the spring to separate the same from the end of the yoke.
The central portion of the yoke is formed with a tubular extension 2| within which is secured one end of an arm 22, the other end of the arm being pivoted as at 23 to one end of a link 24 which has its opposite end pivoted on a pin 25 extending between a pair of spaced parallel ears 26 on a bracket 2i secured to the inner side of the door 8.
Accordingly in the operation of the device it will be apparent that the spring it will exert a tension on the arm 22 to yieldably urge the door 8 into a closed position. The sleeve l 3 is anchored against free rotation by means of a dog 28, pivoted as at 29 to the plate 9 and having its free end engaging the teeth of the wheel l5 whereby to secure the wheel against movement. It will be apparent that the wheel l5 may be rotated to regulate the tension of the spring 16.
It is believed the details of construction and manner of operation of the device will be readily understood from the foregoing without further detailed explanation.
Having thus described the invention what I claim is:
l. A door closer comprising a pivoted arm having one end secured to the door, a yoke on the other end of the arm, a stationary pin forming a pivotal support for said yoke, a sleeve rotatably mounted on a pin, and having a non-circular portion on one end, a toothed wheel secured to the non-circular portion of the sleeve for rotation therewith, spring means connecting the sleeve and the yoke for urging the arm in a door-closing direction and a dog engaging the wheel to secure the spring under tension.
2. A door closer comprising a pivoted arm having one end secured to the door, a yoke-on the other end of the arm, a stationary pin forming a pivotal support for said yoke, a sleeve rotatably mounted onthe pin, a coil spring having one end secured to the sleeve and its other end secured to the yoke and means for securing the sleeve against movement, said means comprising a toothed wheel fixedly secured to the sleeve and adapted for regulating the tension of the spring, and means releasably engaging the teeth of the wheel to secure the latter against movement.
