My invention relates to cleats and more particularly to that class adapted to be secured to the soles of sport shoes and the like.

One of the principal objects of my invention is to provide a cleat equipped with means for gripping the ground in a manner to maximize the gripping action and the comfort of the wearer and at the same time minimize the wear on the ground or other surface acted on; and furthermore, particularly in a type of cleat adaptable for attachment to the soles of baseball shoes, to minimize the liability of injury to the wearer and opposing players.

Another object of my invention is to provide a device of the above described character which is simple in construction, economical in manufacture and durable in use.

Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description, appended claim and annexed drawing.

For the purpose of teaching my invention I provide a sport shoe, preferably of the type worn in playing golf, with the usual sole 5 of typical construction. Attached to the bottom of the sole 5 are a pair of my novel cleats comprising toe and heel cleats 6 and 1 respectively.

The toe cleat 6, in the preferred embodiment illustrated in Figures 1 to 4 inclusive of the drawing, comprises a plate 8 of a substantially trapezium-shaped configuration in plan view having side, front and rear members 9, l0 and II respectively formed on the outer sides of said plate. Each of said members are rounded on the ground engaging edges for permitting the same to easily penetrate the ground but preventing the same from unduly marring or roughing the surface thereof. Each of the members are offset and extend at right angles to the horizontal plane of the plate proper. The plate proper is preferably constructed of aluminum, and formed with a central aperture to minimize the weight of the device and each of the inner and outer faces of the plate are rounded to prevent roughing of the ground and the adhering of foreign matter to said faces. Suitable fastening means, for instance rivets l2, are secured through openings in reenforced sections of said plate for attaching the plate to the sole 5.

The heel cleat 1 comprises a plate of substantially isosceles trapezoid-shaped configuration in plan view and is fashioned with side, front and rear members l3, l4 and I5 respectively. The

Figure 5 illustrates a modified form of a blank l6 formed with side members I! of substantially the same length. This construction is particu- 30 larly adaptable for use on baseball shoes wherein the Wearers foot is disposed at various angles in relation to the ground not ordinarily obtained in the playing of golf or like sports.

As clearly illustrated in Figure 3 of the drawing, each of the members are formed integral with the respective plates and the same are reenforced at the respective jointures by means of a reenforcing medium I8 which is secured thereto in any suitable manner, for instance by 40 welding.
