B. JTHARTMAN. Harness-Saddle.
No 214,909. Patented April 29, I879.
WITNESS S Z Egg: a A Zmfi wvw ATTORNEYS N. PETERS, PHOTU-HTH'IQRAPHER. WASHINGTON. D C.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
BENJAMIN J. HARTMAN, OF WOOSTER, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN HARNESS-SADDLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 214,909, dated April 29, 1879; application filed January 14, 1879.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BENJAMIN J. HAIRTMAN, of Wooster, in the county of Wayne, and in the State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Harness-Saddles;
and do hereby declare that the following is a to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawings, in which- Figure l is a perspective view of a harnesssaddle embodying my invention, the terret and pad-screw on one side being removed and the parts separated. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of one end of the saddle.
A represents the pad-plate, provided along both front and rear edges with a flange, a, which extends both above and below the plate. In each end of the plate A is a box, B, sunk down from the top, for receiving the skirt-strap O, which can be let in the full thickness.
D is the housing or top, which, by the construction above described, lies down straight and smooth, without any opening between the plate and housing to catch dirt and hair.
E is the check-hook; F, the terret, and G the pad-screw, which are all screwed into nuts placed in the pad, on the under side of the padplate, in any of the known and usual ways.
At the ends of the side flanges a, on the top of the pad-plate, are formed inwardly-projectin g lugs or catches b b, which extend over the edges of the skirt-strap and hold the same firmly to its place, and also allow the skirtstrap to slip in without roughing the same.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination of the pad-plate A, formed with the sunken box B and flanges to, having inwardly-projecting catches b, the skirt-strap 0, housing 1), and pad-screw G, substantially as herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 21st day of December, 1878.
BENJAMIN J. HARTMAN.
