The present invention relates to an improvement in undergarments, and is particularly directed to a protective absorptive, shield means to be applied to drawers., shorts, pajama trousers and the like, thereby to protect the seat or crotch portion of such wear from inadvertent soiling.

A further feature of the present improvement is in the manner of applying, and removably maintaining the shields in operative position under all lo conditions of body posture and movement.

Another feature of advantage is in the utilization of material for such shields so that, if desired, they may be readily laundered, or, onthe other hand they may be made of W cost cellulosic material and disposed of, after wear.

The foregoing and other features will be apprehended as the herein description proceeds, and it is obvious that modifications may be made in the structure herein without departing from the spirit hereof or the scope of the appended claims.

As in Fig. l, the drawers, of any type, is provided with a waste band I, to which is attached, by any suitable mode, a free swinging tab 1, the upper end a of which, Fig. 2, is attached to the juncture of the rear portion 3 of the drawers and the Waist-band I, by sewing I2, or otherwise.

The lower free end of the tab is provided with a button hole I I, Fig. 3, into which goes a button I4, which may be attached to a removable re- 50 placeable shield 8, Figs. l, 2 and 6. The 'conditions here may be reversed, and the button hole may be on the shield, with the button on the tab.

The tab 'I is located over the mid-part of the seat portion 3, Fig. 1, so as to maintain any attached shield 8 in crotch contacting position.

(ol. 12s-287) The inside leg seam part e of the garment, near the seat portion 3, Fig. 7, is provided with two suitably affixed tape loops c and d, these being utilized to receive tie-cords 9 9, which are Woven through apertures I5-I5, Figs. 2 and 6, located at the bottom of the protector 8, as` viewed in Fig. 6, and the cords 99, thereafter tied, leaving the shield 8 looped in the garment, as at I0, Fig. 2. As thus looped, the shield 8 is in crotch protective assembly to the garment.

Another form of shield mounting is disclosed in Fig. 4, in which a looped tape 23 is sewed to the waist-band I, and the end of an elastic webbing I6 looped therethrough. This webbing may have a button I'I sewed thereon at one end thereof and the webbing Il provided with button holes such as 24, so as to permit of adjustment of the shield 2|, through which the webbing I'I is looped at the button hole or loop-slot 20,

Two spaced transverse straps I8 and I 9 are sewed by their ends to the seat portion 3 of the garment as at Fig, 4 through which the webbing I6 is threaded through both alined loops, and thus is held with its protecting shield 2I in crotch covering position. In this latter shield 2I, there are two spaced apertures 22-22 at the lower end and these are utilized to receive tie cords, not shown, for the same purpose as described for Fig. 6.

In Fig. 5, there is shown a further modified form of shield protector, which is in reality a doubling of the structure of Figs. 1, 3 and 6, thus being in duplex form, and is adapted for use on feminine wear.

Two tabs I-l are hemmed to the waist band I-I', and the free ends may have a button or a button hole fastening means III-I4', whereby to operatively support the duplex shields 8-8 in crotch contacting position. The outer small ends of the shields may also be provided with buttons or button holes to coact with fastenings III- I4 of the tab ends, for removable support of the shields.

At the central meeting points of the shields 8-3 they may be tied through the shown apertures by lacing, or tie cords 9 9, or the shield 8-8 may be combined in a single piece, thus covering the crotch portion of the garment from waist-band to waist band.

From the foregoing it will be ascertained that we have provided a garment protector which is connected to the garment for easy release therefrom for replacement, and is suspended at independent outer points for free floating, non-binding movement of the protector, thus making it self-adjustable to body postures independently of the movement of the garment to which it is attached.

Having thus described the invention what is claimed is:

1. An under garment comprising a transverse crotch seam and including a waist band having permanently incorporated with its back part inner supporting means including a relatively small depending end; a detachable shield having a small back end, a wide end disposed linearly with the seam and having lateral attaching portions; means releasably attaching said small ends; and means permanently attached to the garment and including portions which releasably cooperate with the first mentioned portions.

2. The combination with an under garment having waist band and transverse crotch seam members, of separate inner shield supporting mea-ns stitched into said members; an elongate absorbent, detachable shield; and means releasably attaching the opposite ends of said shield to the Iirst mentioned means.

3. The combination with an under garment having a Waist, and a transverse crotch seam; of a front sanitary shield having a wide end disposed at said seam, a front end extending from the wide end and being relatively small; a back shield having a Wide end like the rst wide end and mating therewith, said back shield having a small back end; back and front means depending from said waist and releasably holding the small ends separately, and flexible means releasably holding said mating ends one to the other, whereby a selected shield may be removed for separate replacement.

4. An under garment comprising in combination a. lower body covering portion including a waist band, leg portions having a transverse crotch seam; separately detachable front and back shields, said shields having wide ends disposed on said seam and there being opposed apertures in the lateral parts of said ends; flexible elements passed through said apertures and releasably tying said ends together; said shields having relatively narrow forwardly and backwardly extending ends, each of said latter ends having on its outer face a button; and front and back shield supports attached to said band and having depending ends, each of said depending ends having therein a buttonhole, all substantially as set forth.
