Patented Apr. 14, 1936 ATT QFFICE 1 Claim.
This invention relates to a telephone booth and has particular reference to means for mounting a telephone therein in different vertical positions so that it will be in convenient location for 5 a standing or seated user.
The invention particularly relates to the type of telephone booth described and claimed in my application, Serial No. 641,592, filed November '7, 1932, which discloses a booth of novel construc- 10 'tion and preferably of circular or polygonal form.
The various objects of the invention relating particularly to details of construction will become apparent from the following description read in conjunction with the accompanying draw- 15 ings in which:
Fig. 1 is an elevation of the improved telephone booth with the outer portion partially broken away to show the interior, certain of the parts being in section;
20 Fig. 2 is a sectional view illustrating the removable seat construction;
Fig. 3 is a plan View of the same;
Fig. 4 is a rear elevation showing the means for securing the telephone in Various vertical posi- 25 tions;
Fig. 5 is a vertical section showing the same subject matter; and
Fig. 6 is a horizontal section showing the shelf and carrying members with the telephone re- 30 moved.
The booth comprises an outer wall 2 having an opening therein arranged to be closed by a sliding door 4. This construction which is irrelevant to the present invention is preferably of the character illustrated in my prior application. To the bottom 6 of the booth are secured uprights 8 preferably in the form of metallic tubes which are also secured at the top of the booth. Slots l6 formed in said tubes, and preferably having limited extent as indicated in Fig. 4, receive the turned ends of a carrying member !2, into holes M in which may be tapped screws it which extend through openings it properly spaced extending through the tube walls opposite the slots It. 45 These openings l8 are preferably so located that the carrier may be fixed in two alternative positions in one of which it will support the telephone so as to be in proper position for the accommodation of a standing user and in the other of which it will be in a position to accommodate a seated user.
The telephone 20 is secured to the carrying member in any suitable fashion. The lower end of the carrying member supports the usual shelf 22 located below the phone.
A socket 24 is provided in a member 26 which may be secured to the wall of the booth by means of screws 28. The booth is preferably provided with tapped holes to receive these screws whether or not it is originally intended to have a seat removably located therein. If at any time it become desirable to place a seat in the booth, the booth is then ready to receive it with a minimum of manipulation required to secure it in place. Within the socket 24 is fixed by a set screw or the like the upright post 30 carrying seat 32.
By reason of the provision of the removable seat and also the vertical adjustment of the carrying member for the telephone, the booth may be selectively made for either type of use. The changes required can be made very readily merely by the fixation of screws. The wires leading from the phone may conveniently enter one of the posts 8 and extend through the same either to the bottom or top of the booth. These wires may be made of such length that vertical adjustment of the telephone can be freely made.
It will be clear that numerous changes may be made in the embodiment of the invention without departing from the spirit thereof, as defined in the following claim.
What I claim and desire to protect by Letters Patent is:
In combination, a pair of parallel upright slotted tubular members, and means for fixedly supporting a telephone on said members at various selected heights, said means comprising a telephone carrier having flanges arranged to extend into said slots, and screws passing through openings in the members and threaded into said flanges to secure the carrier to the members 45 only in certain selected positions.
PERCIVAL H. SHERRON.
