My invention relates broadly to hangers and more particularly to a carrier for draperies, clothlike merchandise, and laundered or dry cleaned articles which will permit the articles to be delivered to a customer in carefully preserved condition free from wrinkles.

One of the objects of my invention is to provide a construction of carrier for cloth-like goods which will allow the goods to be mounted on the carrier without excessive folding or creasing and preserved in good condition during storage, transit or delivery to the customer.

Another object of my invention is to provide a construction of carrier by which cloth-like goods may be mounted on the carrier by a longitudinal movement and the carrier supported on a hanger without disturbing the condition of the goods for permitting storage, transit or delivery of the goods to a customer without excessive folding or creasing.

Still another object of my invention is to provide a construction of carrier for cloth-like goods in which a hanger is provided with means which may be shifted to a substantially horizontal position to allow the longitudinal movement of a carrier to a position on the hanger and the hanger thereafter latched over the carrier for supporting the cloth-like article in a position in which the article is preserved against wrinkling, thus allowing the goods to be transported and delivered to a customer in good condition.

A further object of my invention is toprovide a construction of carrier for cloth-like goods in which a tubular support is mounted in a substantially horizontal position on a hanger which is provided with a hinged section adapted to be latched in position with respect to the hanger or shifted to a substantially horizontal position in alignment with the: supporting portion of the hanger to allow the insertion or removal of the carrier from the hanger without impairing the condition of the goods.

Other and further objects of my invention reside in the construction of a carrier, `as set forth more fully in the following specification by reference to the accompanying drawing, in which:

I have found during the operation of alaundry establishment that customers articles after being laundered are often carelessly handled in transit and delivery resulting in wrinkling, folding, and creasing of the laundered article, impairing the appearance of the article. Often, customers goods must be returned because of such impairment resulting in increased cost to the dealer, which loss can be readily avoided by use of the carrier of my invention. The carrier of my design avoids excessive folding, creasing, or wrinkling of the cloth-like article by providing meansy for mounting the cloth-like article on a horizontally disposed tube which may be maintained in a substantially horizontal position when mounting the article on the carrier and while the article is in storage or transit and during the time when the article is being removed from the carrier. My in- 0 vention consists in a horizontally extending sup- 5 porting member having a central hook with a connection between the central hook and one end of the horizontally extending supporting member and a connection between the central hook and the other end of the horizontally extending supporting member. The last named connection includes a pivotally connected link which may be latched in a position coextensive with the connection to the central hook or which may be moved to a position in alignment with the horizontally extending supporting portion to allow a tubular member which carries the cloth-like article to be moved in a horizontal position over the horizontally extending supporting portion and hinged section and then secured in position by latching the hinged section in alignment with the portion which leads to the central hook whereby the cloth-like article may be transported and removed from the carrier without folding, creasing, or wrinkling. Various types of hinged connections may be provided between the foldable section of the carrier and the supporting portion of the carrier and various forms of latches for securing the foldable portion of the carrier to the supporting portion of the carrier may be employed.

Referring to the drawing in detail, reference character I designates the substantially horizontally extending supporting portion of the oarrier formed of a wire element having an annularly extending portion 2 which connects to central hook 3. The central hook 3 has a connecting portion 4 extending therefrom. The connecting portion 4 terminates in a hook-shaped portion 5 which is arranged to receive the eyelet 6 of the hinged section 'I of the carrier. The hinged section 'I in the form of my invention illustrated in Figs. 1-'7 is pivotally connected at 8 to an intermediate link 9. The intermediate link 9 is pivotally connected at I5 to the end of the horizontally extending member I. The intermediate link 9 is channel shaped in cross-section to` receive the flattened ends of the horizontally extending supporting member I and the ilattened end of the hinged section 'I in such manner as to allow the hinged section 'I to be aligned with the horizontally extending supporting member I, as shown in dotted lines at 'I' in Fig. 1. The movement of the hinged section I to a horizontal position in alignment with supporting member I permits the tubular supporting member II to be withdrawn in a substantially horizontal direction from the carrier or inserted on the carrier. Fig. 2 illustrates the manner in which hinged section 'I has the eyelet 6 thereof disconnected from the hook-shaped end 5 and aligned with the horizontally extending supporting member I to permit the mounting of the tubular supporting member II on the carrier in the direction of the arrow. As represented in Fig. l, the intermediate connecting link is shifted to dotted line position 9 when the hinged section 'I is aligned horizontally with the supporting member I.

The tubular supporting member I I provides means for carrying the cloth-like article I2 which is draped over the tubular supporting member I I in such manner that the goods are not subject to excessive creasing, folding, or wrinkling. The hook 5 after it receives the eyelet 5 of the hinged section 'I has the open side thereof locked against removal of the eyelet 6 by means of the tubular member I4. The tubular member Id is cut away throughout substantially half of its length, as represented at I5 to allow the tubular member to engage over the open portion of the hook 5 for insuring the locking of the open side of the hook against removal of the eyelet 6. By merely sliding the tubular member I4 upwardly along connecting portion 4, the eyelet 6 may be readily removed from the hook 5 and the hinged section I shifted to a position in alignment with horizontally extending supporting member I.

As shown in Figs. 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13, I may provide a modied form of connecting means by forming an eyelet I6 on the end of supporting member I through which rivet member I'I passes for pivotally supporting the end of the hinged section 'I which, in this form of my invention, has its end bent to shape, as shown in the perspective view of Fig. 13 to form eyelets engageable on opposite sides of the eyelet I6, as shown at i8 and I9. The rivet member I'I passes through eyelets I8, I6 and I9, as shown more clearly in Fig. 11, and serves as a substantial pivot for hinged section 'I allowing hinged section "I to be shifted to a horizontal position in alignment with supporting member I when inserting or removing the tubular supporting member I I from the carrier.

In order to decrease manufacturing costs, I may construct my device in the form illustrated in Figs. 14 and l5 where supporting member I has eyelet I6 formed on the end thereof and hinged section I has a coacting eyelet 20 formed on the end thereof. Hinged section I may be readily shifted to a horizontal position for allowing insertion of the tubular supporting member 5 EI on the carrier or the removal of the tubular supporting member I I from the carrier.

Where necessary to more effectively secure the goods on the tubular carrier II, suitable clips may be employed to connect the edges of the goods in a position beneath the tubular carrier to prevent slipping of the goods from the carrier. The clips will not impair the goods but will serve toi retain the goods on: the carrier.

I have found the structure of my invention particularly adaptable for the protection of laundered and dry cleaned articles in storage, transit or delivery, but it will be understood that the structure of my invention may be employed for the supporting of various articles such as draperies or curtains or other cloth-like materials.

In order toi protect the goods which are mounted on the tubular supporting member II, I provide a bag-like cover 2| adapted to completely enclose the goods. livered to a customer without packing the goods in a box which would cause creasing. In the case of cloth-like material the cover member may be provided with various types of side opening securing means such as a zipper-like fastener, string, or other forms of buttoning device.

While I have described my invention in certain preferred embodiments, I desire that it be understood that modifications upon my invention may be made and that I intend no limitations other than are imposed by the scope of the appended claims.

What I claim as new and desire to secure by etters Patent of the United States is as follows:

2. In a device of the class described, a wire member having a horizontally extending portion, a central hook and connections intermediate the central hoo-k and the ends of the horizontally eX- tending supporting portion, a hinged section included in one of said connections between one end of the horizontally extending supporting portion and the central hook, said hinged section being shiftable to a position in alignment with said horizontally extending supporting portion, and an article carrier movable over said hinged section and over said horizontally extending supporting portion.

3. In a device of the class described, a Wire member including a horizontally extending supporting portion, a central hook member and portions interconnecting the central hook member at opposite ends of the horizontally extending supporting portion, one of said connections including a hinged member shiftable from a position in alignment with said horizontally extending supporting portion to a position in alignment with one of the portions interconnecting the said hook member and one end of the horizontally extending supporting portion.

In a device of the class described, a wire member including a horizontally extending supporting portion, a central hook and portions in`- terconnecting the central hoo-k and the ends of the horizontally extending supporting portion, a hinged section included in one of said portions between said central hook and the end of said horizontally extending supporting portion, said hinged section being movable from a position intermediate one of said portions which connects with the said hook to a position in alignment with said horizontally extending supporting portion, and a carrier movable to a position over said hinged section and over said horizontally extending supporting portion.

In a device of the class described, a support having a substantially horizontally extending portion, a central hook, means interconnecting said central hook with the opposite ends of said horizontally extending supporting portion, one of said means including a member pivotally connected with one end of said horizontally extending supporting portion, and a locking device for securing the end of said pivotally connected member with a portion of the means connected with said central hook.

6. In a device of the class described, a horizontally extending supporting member, a central hook, a connection between one end of said horizontally extending supporting member and said central hook, means interconnecting said central hook with the other end of said horizontally extending supporting member comprising a wire member directed toward the end `of said horizon- `tally extending supporting member, a link pivottending supporting member comprising a wire member directed toward the end of said horizontally extending supporting member, a link pivotally connected with the end of the horizontally extending supporting member, means for locking the said link in alignment with said wire member, and a tubular carrier movable longitudinally over said link and said horizontally extending supporting member.

8. In a device of the class described, a support having a substantially horizontally extending portion, a central hook, means interconnecting said central hook with the opposite ends of said horizontally extending supporting portion, one of said means including a member pivotally connected with one end of said horizontally extending supporting portion, a locking device for securing the end of said pivotally connected member with a portion of the means connected with said central hook, and a tubular carrier movable in a substantially horizontal direction and over said horizontally extending supporting portion and over said pivotally connected member.

9. In a device of the class described, a triangular wire structure having one arm thereof disposed horizontally and the other two arms thereof adapted to support said horizontal arm, one of said last mentioned arms being formed in sections, locking means for securing said sections in supporting position, pivotal means whereby one of said sections may be aligned with said hori- -f zontal arm, and a tubular supporting member of a diameter substantially greater than the ywire forming said wire structure adapted to be mounted on said horizontal arm of said structure by longitudinal movement over said horizontal arm i and said pivoted section in aligned position.
