Description

March 17, 1936. s. SAMUEL 2,034,314
SHOE LAST HOLDER Filed Dec. 3. 1934 SamzaeZ Z I w'wentov Patented Mar. 17, 1936 UNITED. STATES PATENT OFFICE 3 Claims.
The present invention relates to the art of stretching shoes and has for its prime object to provide means for holding the last which stretches the toe portion of the shoe against distortion and maintaining the heel portion of the shoe in proper shape and formation for comfort.
Another object of the invention resides in the provision of means of this nature which is simple in construction, inexpensive to manufacture, easy to adjust, thoroughly efficient and reliable in use and otherwise well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed.
With the above and numerous other objects in view as will appear as the description pro- 15 ceeds, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the drawing:
20 Figure 1 is a side elevation of a shoe showing a last and my improved holder in place, a portion of the side of the shoe being broken away.
Figure 2 is a vertical longitudinal section through my holder.
2 Figure 3 is a bottom plan view of one section thereof.
Figure 4 is a rear elevation of said section.
Figure 5 is a rear elevation of the other section.
Figure 6 is a top plan View of said other see- 30 tlOIl.
Referring to the drawing in detail it will be seen that the numeral 5 denotes a stretcher last of conventional construction operated in the usual manner by the screw threaded bar 6 and 35 handle I. This last includes a rear portion having a threaded hole therein through which the threaded part of the bar 6 passes and a front portion which is adjusted by turning movement of the rod to cause said front portion to stretch the toe portion of the shoe. Such lasts are used in stretching the front or toe portion of a shoe but frequently will slip backwardly and have been found to be unsatisfactory.
Numeral 8 denotes a cross member mostly used as a handle from which projects a U-shaped frame comprising a bight portion 9 and a pair of spaced parallel co-extensive legs It], the ends of which are curved downwardly and merge into blades ll shaped to conform with the conven- 50 tional heel of a shoe. The bar 6 passes between the legs It! so that the parts of the device will not interfere with turning movement of the bar. Numeral !2 denotes a plate having a threaded opening l4. Depending from the plate are blades 5 or arms, a pair, [5 shaped to receive the rear end of the last 5. A screw I 6 engages in the opening l4 and has an annular flange I! to engage over the upper surfaces of the legs and.
a head l8 for manipulation of the screw so as to tighten or untighten the engagement of the 5 flange I! with the legs l0.
It is thought that the construction, operation, manipulation and advantages of this invention will now be quite apparent to those skilled in this art without a more detailed description thereof. 10
The. present embodiment of the invention has been described in considerable detail merely for the purposes of exemplification since in actual practice it attains the features of advantage enumerated as desirable in the statement of the 15 invention and the above description.
It will be apparent that changes in the details of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or scope of the mvention as hereinafter claimed or sacrificing any of its advantages.
Having thus described my invention, what is claimed as new is:
1. A device for holding a toe. stretching shoe last in a shoe, comprising a member including a substantially horizontal part extending above the top of the shoe and above the rear portion of the last, and a depending part at the rear end of the horizontal part extending into the shoe and engaging the heel part thereof, a member depending from the horizontal part and slidably arranged thereon and removably contacting the rear portion of the last, and means for fastening the last mentioned member in adjusted position on the horizontal part.
2. A device for use with a toe stretching shoe last, comprising a substantially U-shaped member providing a front bight part and a pair of rearwardly extending limbs, the ends of the limbs being bent downwardly and having their rear edges shaped to engage the heel of the shoe, a flat member contacting the under edges of the limbs and having a depending part for engaging the rear end of the last, the last mentioned member having a threaded hole therein, a screw engaging the hole and passing through the space between the limbs, said screw having a head having its lower end resting on the upper edges of the limbs, whereby releasing the screw, the last engaging member can be adjusted longitudinally on the limbs and then by tightening the screw, said member is locked in adjusted position.
3. A device for holding a toe stretching shoe last in a shoe, comprising a substantially U- shaped member providing a front bight part and a pair of rearwardly extending limbs, the ends of the limbs extending downwardly for entering and contacting the heel portion of the shoe, 2. member having a part slidab-ly engaging the horizontal portions of the limbs, and a depending part engaging the rear part of the last and means for fastening said member in adjusted position on the horizontal parts of the limbs, the depending part of said member including a pair of spaced limbs.
