Application July 5, 1935, Serial No. 29,987
2 Claims.
This invention relates to improvements in garments and is mainly designed for shorts or undergarment for men and boys, the general object of the invention being to provide a garment atthe crotch with a pouch for supporting the genital organs and in such a manner that these organs are not discomforted by the garment.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.
In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which:-
Figure 1 is a front view showing the invention applied to a pair of shorts.
Figure 2 is a similar view but showing the legs pulled apart and showing the pouch with parts broken away to show the vent, parts of the garment adjacent the vent being shown in section.
Figure 3 is a side view with one leg folded upwardly to show the invention.
Figure 4 is a rear view with the legs separated.
Figure 5 is a sectional view through the parts of the garment and through the pouch.
Figure 6 is a view looking toward the inner portion of the crotch of the garment and showing the vent open.
Figure 7 is a similar view but showing the vent partly closed.
Figure 8 is a view showing one-half of the pouch before being attached to the garment.
As shown in these drawings a slit is formed in the garment which extends from a point at the lower end of the placket to a. point at the rear of the crotch part of the garment, this slit forming a vent I. A pouch A is sewn to the crotch part of the garment and covers the vent and this pouch also encloses those portions 2 of the garment adjacent the vent so that these portions 2 form side walls which are located in the pouch.
The pouch is preferably of two pieces of material such as that shown at B in Figure 8 with the curved side edges of the two pieces sewn together on the lines 6 and with the straight front end sewn to the front part of the garment directly under the placket B on the lines 5, the straight sides of the two pieces being sewn to the outer portions of the inside part of the legs on the lines 3 with the curved or pointed end located at the rear as shown at 'l in Figure 4, As
it will be seen from Figure 6 the front end of the pouch is substantially straight and extends transversely with the side edges 3 and rear end located as shown in Figure 6 so that the pouch has its sewn edges spaced a considerable dis- 5 tance from the vent at the sides thereof and sufficient material is used in constructing the pouch as to make the pouch of considerable depth as shown in Figure 5,
Of course the size of the pouch will be made 10 in accordance with the size of a man or boy by which the garment is to be worn.
The edges of the vent or slit are hemmed and this vent is placed where the usual seam of the crotch is located. 15
This pouch with the side walls 2 located therein forms a support for the genital organs and prevents discomfort to said organs from the garment and the exterior garments. The invention is beneficial to health and it will aid materially those aiiiicted with or having symptoms of rupture.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of the invention will be readily apparent.
It is to be understood that changes may be made in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.
What is claimed is:-
1. In a garment of the class described, a pair of legs forming a crotch, the crotch having an elongated slit therein extending from a point adjacent the front of the garment to a point adjacent the rear thereof and a pouch forming member having its side edges sewn to the inside portions of the legs of the garment, a considerable distance from the slit, whereby the upper parts of the inside portions of the leg are located in 40 the pouch, the front end of the pouch member being sewn to the front of the garment and the rear end to the rear portion of the garment beyond the ends of the slit.
2. In a, garment of the class described, a pair 45 of legs forming a crotch, the crotch having an elongated slit therein extending from a point adjacent the front of the garment to a point adjacent the rear thereof and a pouch forming member having its side edges sewn to the inside 50 portions of the legs of the garment, a considerable distance from the slit, whereby the upper parts of the inside portions of the legs are located in the pouch, the front end of the pouch member being sewn to the front of the garment and 55 the rear end to the rear portion of the garment beyond the ends of the slit, and said pouch forming member being composed of two similarly shaped portions of material each having a substantially straight edge and a curved edge, the two curved .edges being sewn together and the straight edges being sewn to the inner portions of the legs, the front end of each member being substantially straight and the rear end curved and merging into the curved edge and the two curved ends being sewn together.
