The present invention relates toa dispensing device for collapsible containers such as are usually used in merchandising tooth paste, shaving cream and the like, and the object of the invention resides in the provision of means whereby the contents of the collapsible container may be squeezed therefrom in an efficient and economical manner making it possible to utilize the full contents of the container.
Another important object of the invention resides in the provision of a device of this nature which is simple in its construction, inexpensive to manufacture, handy, compact and convenient in its arrangement of parts, easy to manipulate, and thoroughly reliable in operation.
With the above, and numerous other objects in view as will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the drawings:
Figure l is a side elevation of a device embodying the features of my invention.
Figure 2 is a top plan view of the device.
Figure 3 is a vertical longitudinal section taken substantially on the line 3-3 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a perspective View of a saddle.
Figure 5 is a vertical transverse section taken substantially on the line 55 of Figure 3.
Figure 6 is a fragmentary top plan view of the device with the saddle removed.
Figure 7 is a perspective View of one of the rollers.
Referring to the drawings in detail, it will be seen that the numeral 5 denotes a plate from one end of which extends in the same plane a pair of spaced parallel coextensive strips 65 and from the other end there rises perpendicularly a. plate 'I which has suitable openings so that it may be fastened to a wall or other suitable support by means of suitable fastening elements. Flanges 8 rise from the outer edges of the strips 6 and the plate 5 and merge into flanges 9 which merge from the side edges of the plate I. The parts thus far described in detail are preferably integral with one another. A roller it is provided at its ends with trunnions H journaled in the flanges 8 immediately above the front edge of the plate 5.
The letter S denotes generally a saddle which is of a general U-shaped formation comprising a bottom cross plate H and side plates l2 rising therefrom. The side plates !2 increase in width upwardly. The upper corners of the side plates I 2 are pivoted to the flanges 9 adjacent their bottom ends by means of a rod i l. The other upper corners have journaled therebetween a roller l5 having at one end an elongated trunnion it with a suitable handle l'l mounted thereon. The roller I5 has a longitudinal slot therein as indicated at l8. The roller l5 contacts normally the roller, iii. The plate ll is provided with an upwardly extending lug l8 punched therefrom in a frustoconical manner and a similar lug i9 is punched downwardly from the plate 5. These lugs receive the ends of a coil spring 28 tensioned to urge the roller I5 toward the roller ES.
The bottom end of a collapsible container is inserted in the slot l8 and as indicated to advantage in Figure 3 the container rests on the flanges 8 or the strips 5 depending upon the diameter thereof. By turning the roller l5 through the medium of the handle I1 the container may be drawn between the rollers l5 and I0, thereby squeezing the contents of the container therefrom as will be quite apparent.
It is thought that the construction, operation, utility and advantages of this invention will now be quite apparent to those skilled in this art without a more detailed description thereof.
The present embodiment of the invention has been described in considerable detail merely for the purposes of exemplification since in actual practice it attains the features of advantage enumerated as desirable in the statement of the invention and the above description.
It will be apparent that changes in the details of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed or sacrificing any of its advantages.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
1. A dispensing device of the class described comprising a plate, means for mounting the plate on a support so that said plate will be in a substantially horizontal position, a saddle of substantial U-shaped formation to include sides and a cross member, means for swingably mounting the saddle on the plate to swing thereon, a roller journaled across the sides of the saddle above the plate, a second roller, and means for rotatably mounting the second roller above the plate so that the first mentioned roller normally will contact therewith and spring means between the saddle and the plate urging the first mentioned roller toward the second mentioned roller.
tatably mounting the second roller above the plate so that the first mentioned roller normally will contact therewith and spring means between the saddle and the plate urging the first mentioned roller toward the second mentioned roller, said plate having extensions forming supporting means for a collapsible container or the like.
