Abstract

A backpack adapted to transform into a seat for use on hard seats commonly found at concert and sporting venues, the backpack comprising a lower portion unfoldable from a seat portion, the lower portion having a plurality of pockets.

Description

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

Field of the Invention

This invention relates to cushions, seats and backpacks, and more particularly relates to a backpack adapted to be reconfigured as a seat and cushion.

Description of the Related Art

Stadium seat are usually cushionless and uncomfortable. Commercial venues, including sports stadiums and concert halls, omit cushions sometimes to save the costs and difficulty of cleaning, maintaining and replacing cushions. In the case of folding chairs, cushions are omitted to extend the life of the chair. Cushions in these areas are prone to being stained with drinks, dirt, body fluids, and cleaners.
Concert goers and fans will sometimes bring their own chairs to certain venues to avoid the discomfort of public seating, or bring chair covers, including pregnant women needing comfortable seating. These folding chairs are often uncomfortable and not easily ported—and sometimes disallowed altogether by venue policies.
When a user desires to carry the folded chair on his or her back, components of the folded chair often rest against undesired areas of the user's back and are generally uncomfortable to carry due to the unbalanced weight of the components of the chair or storage area when the chair is in the folded configuration. Additionally, while current chairs are foldable, the current designs in the art do not provide for holding and storage of things like drink containers and refreshments.
In still other settings, such as camping, hunting and outdoor settings, attendees will attempt to sit on rocks, logs or trees in uncomfortable positions.
There is a need in the art for a device which overcomes these inefficiencies In view of the foregoing, it is therefore desirable that such a device be provided.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

From the foregoing discussion, it should be apparent that a need exists for a backpack with an integrated cushion. Beneficially, such a backpack would overcome many of the difficulties with prior art by providing a simplied assembly with integrated cushion capable of being used in a variety of commercial, outdoor and residential settings.
The present invention has been developed in response to the present state of the art, and in particular, in response to the safety problems and needs in the art that have not yet been fully solved by currently available aparati. Accordingly, the present invention has been developed to provide a backpack having an integrated cushion, the backpack comprising: a seat portion comprising a cushion envelope comprising a zipper, the cushion envelope comprising a cushion, the seat portion comprising a plurality of straps; a lower section 108 comprising a flexible polymeric material, the lower portion hingedly affixed to a forward surface of the seat portion, the lower portion comprising a plurality of pockets; a plurality of straps affixed to the seat portion.
The cushion may comprise one of squircle and a rounded circle. The seat portion may be square. One or more secondary pockets may affix to forward exterior surfaces of the pockets.

FIG. 1A is a top perspective view of a backpack with an integrated cushion 100 in accordance with the present invention.
The backpack 100 comprises a square or rectangular seat portion 102, which seat portion 102 comprises a top cushion 104 affixed to a rigid lower seat 106. In various embodiments, the rigid lower seat 106 is fabricated from polymeric materials, but also be fabricated from metal, alloy or organic materials such as leather or wood. The rigid lower seat 106 may comprise a cushion 104 shaped as a rounded circle or squircle. In various embodiments, this cushion 104 is inflatable.
A lower section 108 fold over or under the seat portion 102 and is hingedly affixed thereto. The lower portion 108 may be fabricated entirely of a flexible, polymeric material such as nylon. In various embodiments, the lower portion 108 comprises a plurality of upper pockets 110 a-b and a plurality of lower pockets 112 a-c. These pockets 110, 112 may comprise simple layers of polymeric material stitched or adhered to a backing material. In various embodiments, the power section 108 may dimensioned to match the dimension of the seat portion 102.
In some embodiments, the lower portion 108 and the rigid lower seat 106 are formed as a single integrated piece.
In various embodiments a backing section 122 is affixed to the seat portion 102. The backing section 102 may comprise a concave, rigid polymeric shell 124 and a cushion 126. The rigid polymeric shell 124 may be one to five inches deep.
In various embodiments, the lower section 108 fold over the seat portion 102 and the backing section 122 folds down over the lower section 108 and the seat portion 102.
A plurality of tabs 142 may cantilever from the seat portion 102, each tab 142 adapted to interlock with an adjoining component such as the backing section 122 or lower portion 108, the tabs 142 forming a hinged fit therewith.

As shown, the lower portion 108 may comprise a plurality of pockers 110, 112 distributed over the forward surface of the lower portion 108, which pockets may be used to hold drinks, foods, tickets, and the like.
FIG. 3 is a side perspective view of a backpack with an integrated cushion 300 in accordance with the present invention.
A zipper 302 partially circumscribes the cushion 104. The cushion 104 may be enveloped by a cover 330.
In various embodiments, a secondary pocket 112 is affixed to the front exterior surface of a pocket 110.
FIG. 4 is a side perspective view of a backpack with an integrated cushion in accordance with the present invention.
The backpack 400 may comprise a plurality of strings 408 or straps affixed to pockets 406, including pockets comprising netting 410 such that contents of the pocket 408 may be seen.
A cushion 402 may affixed to a backing plate 404.
FIG. 5 is a top perspective view of a backpack with an integrated cushion 500 in accordance with the present invention.
A second backing member 508 may interchangeably affix to the seat portion 102, the second backing member 508 comprising a cushion 510 and a bar 512.
In various embodiments, the backing section 122 comprises two cushions 506.
FIG. 6 is a forward perspective view of a backpack with an integrated cushion in accordance with the present invention.
The cushions of the backpack 600 may be affixed in place using a plurality of screws 610 or pins. Pockets 602 a-b may position around the backpack 600.
The straps 408 a-b may insert into apertures 412 disposed at the corners of either the lower section 108 and/or the seat portion 106.

Claims

What is claimed is:

1. A backpack having an integrated cushion, the backpack comprising:

a seat portion comprising a cushion envelope comprising a zipper, the cushion envelope enveloping and comprising a cushion;

a lower section comprising a flexible polymeric material, the lower portion hingedly affixed to a forward surface of the seat portion, the lower portion comprising a plurality of pockets;

wherein the lower section is adapted to fold across a top surface of the seat portion;

a plurality of straps affixed to the seat portion.

2. The backpack of claim 1, wherein the cushion is one of squircle and a rounded circle.

3. The backpack of claim 1, wherein the seat portion is square.

4. The backpack of claim 1, wherein one or more secondary pockets affix to forward exterior surfaces of the pockets.

5. The backpack of claim 1, further comprising a backing section affixed to the seat portion, the backing section comprising a concave, rigid polymeric shell and a cushion.
