Description

    CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATION
  • This application claims the benefit of priority of U.S. provisional application No. 63/172,200 filed Apr. 8, 2021, the contents of which are herein incorporated by reference.
  • BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
  • The present invention relates to combs and, more particularly, to a set of combs used to define three different size partings when hairstyling small, medium, large sections of hair.
  • In hairstyling, it is common to have to section hair into small, medium, and large sections to achieve a desired style. At present, there is no consistent, repeatable, or exact way to do this. Usually, a hairstyling location, such as a salon, will have a single-size sectioning and styling comb, which results in the hair styler needing to either approximate the section size required for the particular patron, or actually measure it, which is time-consuming. Ultimately, these approximations or measurements increase the amount of time required to style a client's hair and are not very precise. For further example, no two size “medium” combs are alike. A stylist's “medium” may be larger than another one. At the present, there is no standardization as it relates to sizing of combs/brushes,
  • As can be seen, there is a need for an improvement in the hairstyling field. Accordingly, the present invention provides a set of combs that clearly define three distinct sizes to eliminate the guesswork while styling, to produce more consistent parting and sectioning sizes across a spectrum of clients, and to reduce the amount of time required to style a patron's hair.
  • SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
  • In one aspect of the present invention, a hairstyling set includes: a small-size comb comprising a handle section and a comb section, with the comb section comprising: a proximal outer tooth disposed proximal the handle section, a distal outer tooth disposed distal the handle section, and a plurality of widely spaced inner teeth disposed between the distal outer tooth and the proximal outer tooth, with the proximal outer tooth and the distal outer tooth each having a greater length than a length of each of the plurality of widely spaced inner teeth; a medium-size comb comprising a handle section and a comb section, with the comb section comprising: a proximal outer tooth disposed proximal the handle section, a distal outer tooth disposed distal the handle section, and a plurality of widely spaced inner teeth disposed between the distal outer tooth and the proximal outer tooth, with the proximal outer tooth and the distal outer tooth each having a greater length than a length of each of the plurality of widely spaced inner teeth; and a large-size comb comprising a handle section and a comb section, with the comb section comprising: a proximal outer tooth disposed proximal the handle section, a distal outer tooth disposed distal the handle section, and a plurality of widely spaced inner teeth disposed between the distal outer tooth and the proximal outer tooth, with the proximal outer tooth and the distal outer tooth each having a greater length than a length of each of the plurality of widely spaced inner teeth.
  • In another aspect of the present invention, a comb including: a handle section and a comb section, with the comb section comprising: a proximal outer tooth disposed proximal the handle section, a distal outer tooth disposed distal the handle section, and a plurality of widely spaced inner teeth disposed between the distal outer tooth and the proximal outer tooth, with the proximal outer tooth and the distal outer tooth each having a greater length than a length of each of the plurality of widely spaced inner teeth.
  • These and other features, aspects and advantages of the present invention will become better understood with reference to the following drawings, description, and claims.
  • BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
  • The following figures are included to illustrate certain aspects of the present disclosure and should not be viewed as exclusive embodiments. The subject matter disclosed is capable of considerable modifications, alterations, combinations, and equivalents in form and function, without departing from the scope of this disclosure.
  • FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a large-size sectioning and styling comb of a set of the present invention;
  • FIG. 2 is a detail elevation view of the large-size sectioning and styling comb of the present invention;
  • FIG. 3 is a detail elevation view, similar to FIG. 2, showing a medium-size sectioning and styling comb of the set of the present invention; and
  • FIG. 4 is another detail elevation view, similar to FIG. 2, showing a large-size sectioning and styling comb of the set of the present invention.
  • DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
  • The subject disclosure is described with reference to the drawings, wherein like reference numerals are used to refer to like elements throughout. In the following description, for purposes of explanation, numerous specific details are set forth in order to provide a thorough understanding of the present disclosure such that one skilled in the art will be enabled to make and use the present invention. It may be evident, however, that the present disclosure may be practiced without some of these specific details.
  • Broadly, one embodiment of the present invention is a set of combs, used for sectioning and styling, that includes a small-size comb, a medium-size comb, and a large-size comb that are precisely sized and clearly defined in terms of the precise size. By doing so, a standardized set of combs can be provided, which reduces the variability and guesswork a user of the comb would otherwise be faced with in terms of what size is being used and should be used.
  • Consequently, this set reduces the amount of service time required on a patron, in part, because it is more organized and makes it easy to identify the proper size comb needed. To achieve that end, in certain embodiments, clear size-labelling may be provided on the combs. As herein used, the terms “small”, “medium”, and “large” are intended to define a length of the comb section of the combs relative to one another. For example, a small-size comb refers to the smallest size comb in a set, a large-size comb refers to the largest size comb in the set, and a medium-size comb refers to a comb intermediate in size relative to the small-size comb and the large-size comb.
  • The present invention provides a precise measurement for parting small, medium, and large sections of hair. It is an improvement, in part, because it not only provides clarity for clean, precise partings, it also provides various exact sizes for style preparation. Where the prior art is imprecise and not clear what size comb is being used, the present invention provides an opposite result and results in a superior and quicker final product (i.e., completed hairstyling).
  • Referring to FIGS. 1-4, a set 10 of sectioning and styling combs is shown. Each comb of the set 10 includes a comb section 14 and a handle section 12 (also referred to as a “rattail”) with a pointed end 12 a. Each comb, as shown, includes a larger proximal tooth 14 a, a larger distal tooth 14 b, and a plurality of smaller teeth 14 c disposed between the larger outer teeth 14 a, 14 b. The larger outer teeth 14 a, 14 b are elongated relative to the smaller inner teeth 14 c to better permit parting and detangling of hair. The inner teeth 14 c are advantageously spaced further apart from one another than previously available products, and this feature is described in greater detail below. Further, these inner teeth 14 c are specifically configured for a variety of parting sizes, not smoothing. The spacing and design of the inner teeth 14 allow for neat, even parting without the guesswork required when using conventional products. To form this set 10 of brushes, an exemplary method may include the following. The comb section 10 may be formed from plastic, such as carbon plastic, and the handle section 12 may be formed from metal. A molding process may be used to form both parts.
  • FIGS. 1 and 2 illustrate a large-size comb of the set 10 of the present invention, which is intended for making large-size parts in an individual's hair. As presently embodied, the spacing between the larger teeth 14 a, 14 b is approximately 1.5 inches (measured relative to inner sides of the outer teeth 14 a, 14 b), with eight inner teeth 14 c disposed therebetween and equally spaced from one another.
  • FIG. 3 illustrate a medium-size comb of the set 10 of the present invention, which is intended for making medium-size parts in an individual's hair. As presently embodied, the spacing between the larger teeth 14 a, 14 b is approximately 1 inch (measured relative to inner sides of the outer teeth 14 a, 14 b), with six inner teeth 14 c disposed therebetween and equally spaced from one another.
  • FIG. 4 illustrate a large-size comb of the set 10 of the present invention, which is intended for making small-size parts in an individual's hair. As presently embodied, the spacing between the larger teeth 14 a, 14 b is approximately 0.5 inches (measured relative to inner sides of the outer teeth 14 a, 14 b), with four inner teeth 14 c disposed therebetween and equally spaced from one another.
  • As a set 10, the combs of the present invention provide the user (e.g., a hair stylist) the ability to create various styles with ease and versality, using all three or just one. Because of the clear size labelling via indicia formed on all three combs (e.g., “SMALL”, “MEDIUM”, and “LARGE”, as shown in FIGS. 1-4) In use, each comb can detail individually what a straight line is and further detail that straight line into a complete section that is uniform throughout the styling process. Together, the differently sized combs can work together (i.e., each be used a single individual's hair) to create consistent and versatile appearances. A user first lays one of the combs flat on the scalp in the desired location to be parted and slowly pushes forward the comb, which isolates a section of hair consistent with the size of the comb selected. The comb may be pushed forward until an end of the length of the comb, the hair section can be isolated, and the user can proceed to style the hair using various appropriate techniques.
  • While one or more preferred embodiments are disclosed, many other implementations will occur to one of ordinary skill in the art and are all within the scope of the invention. Each of the various embodiments described above may be combined with other described embodiments in order to provide multiple features. Furthermore, while the foregoing describes a number of separate embodiments of the apparatus and method of the present invention, what has been described herein is merely illustrative of the application of the principles of the present invention. Other arrangements, methods, modifications, and substitutions by one of ordinary skill in the art are therefore also considered to be within the scope of the present invention, which is not to be limited except by the claims that follow.
  • While apparatuses and methods are described in terms of “comprising,” “containing,” or “including” various components or steps, the apparatuses and methods can also “consist essentially of” or “consist of” the various components and steps. All numbers and ranges disclosed above may vary by some amount. Whenever a numerical range with a lower limit and an upper limit is disclosed, any number and any included range falling within the range is specifically disclosed. In particular, every range of values (of the form, “from about a to about b,” or, equivalently, “from approximately a to b,” or, equivalently, “from approximately a-b”) disclosed herein is to be understood to set forth every number and range encompassed within the broader range of values. Also, the terms in the claims have their plain, ordinary meaning unless otherwise explicitly and clearly defined by the patentee. Moreover, the indefinite articles “a” or “an,” as used in the claims, are defined herein to mean one or more than one of the elements that it introduces. If there is any conflict in the usages of a word or term in this specification and one or more patent or other documents that may be incorporated herein by reference, the definitions that are consistent with this specification should be adopted. Moreover, the use of directional terms such as above, below, upper, lower, upward, downward, left, right, and the like are used in relation to the illustrative embodiments as they are depicted in the figures, the upward or upper direction being toward the top of the corresponding figure and the downward or lower direction being toward the bottom of the corresponding figure.
  • As used herein, the phrase “at least one of” preceding a series of items, with the terms “and” or “or” to separate any of the items, modifies the list as a whole, rather than each member of the list (i.e., each item). The phrase “at least one of” allows a meaning that includes at least one of any one of the items, and/or at least one of any combination of the items, and/or at least one of each of the items. By way of example, the phrases “at least one of A, B, and C” or “at least one of A, B, or C” each refer to only A, only B, or only C; any combination of A, B, and C; and/or at least one of each of A, B, and C.
