Abstract

(A) The field of this invention is in apparel, specifically women's jeans.
    • (B) The technical problem solved by this invention is creating a slimming stomach panel for jeans.
    • (C) The solution to the problem is using the non-stretch cotton pocketing material of the front pocket bags to denim and enlarging the width of the pocket bags so that the sides of the pocketing material can be sewn into the side seams and into the front zipper placket seams of the jeans.
    • (D) The principal use of the invention is as a stomach shaper and slimming panel for women's jeans.

Description

    CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATION
  • This application was originally filed Dec. 23, 2005 for a Design patent entitled Women's Reducing and Shaping Jeans, application 29/245,405.
  • BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
  • The inventor started in 2004 to change the fabrication and wash techniques of women's denim jeans so that they would be slimming. The inventor used the non-stretch cotton pocketing which made up the front pocket bags but instead of letting the pocket bags just hang from the waistband as in all other jeans, the inventor increased the width of the pocket bags and sewed the edges into the side seams and into the front zipper seam so that when the jeans are zipped up a restraining panel is created pushing the entire stomach area in. The inventor has been manufacturing and selling her jeans with this slimming pocket panel from 2005 to the present. The inventor applied for a design patent on Dec. 23, 2005 but evidently the application was considered abandoned at some point. The inventor's slimming jeans were hugely popular and she ultimately went to QVC on Sep. 13, 2013 and started selling a Chinese-made version of her jeans using her slimming techniques on Oct. 4, 2014. About 6 months after her first TV appearance, the inventor noticed that a pitchwoman from another QVC company said her jeans used the most brilliant pocket panel invention so the inventor immediately researched the status of her pocket design patent. She discovered that it had inadvertently been considered abandoned so immediately petitioned to reinstate it; the petition to reinstate was granted and the application went forward. It was then discovered that the application should have been for a utility patent, not a design patent, because the pocket panel is purely functional and was designed specifically to reduce the appearance of the stomach area so then the inventor attempted to convert the application to a utility patent from a design patent. It was determined after a lot of research and discussion with the US Patent Office that the only way to do this was to file a continuation application as a utility application. (The inventor's design patent for her Slimming Wash Pattern on Jeans was issued on Feb. 6, 2018.)
  • BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
  • The non-stretch cotton pocketing used to create the front pockets in jeans is resized to be wide enough to stretch across the entire front of the jeans and is sewn into the side seams of the jeans and into the front zipper seam so that when the jeans are zipped up a slimming panel is created that pushes the entire stomach area in.
  • DESCRIPTION OF DRAWING
  • The drawing is an inside-out view of the front of jeans showing the waistband, zipper placket, position of rivets and buttons, the horizontal and vertical seams of the pocketing and the shape of the pocket bags. The vertical seams along each side the zipper placket show that the pocketing bag is sewn shut so that items in the pockets don't migrate all the way to the zipper. The curved seam mimicking the outer shape of the pocket bag is where the back part of the pocket bag is sewn into the denim; the front part of the pocket bag is sewn into the denim on the front part of the jeans creating the pocket itself. The drawing shows that the pocketing fabric is wide enough to stretch across the entire front of the jeans and that the side edges of the pocketing are sewn into the side seams of the jeans and that the inside edges of the pocketing are sewn into the front zipper seam. This is a Replacement Drawing Sheet and consists only of FIG. 1 with no broken lines, arrows, texts, indicia or labels.
  • DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
  • The slimming pocket panel for jeans takes the non-stretch cotton pocketing which makes up the front pocket bags of jeans but instead of letting the pocket bags just hang unattached, the inventor increased the width of the pocketing and sewed the edges of the pocket bags into the side seams and into the front zipper seam so that when the jeans are zipped up a restraining panel is created pushing the entire stomach area in while at the same time the pockets remain functional pockets.
  • DRAWING
  • A front view of jeans turned inside-out so you can see the pocket lining which has been cut so that it is wide enough to stretch across the front of the jeans and is sewn into the front zipper seam and into the side seams.
