Abstract

A hat cover. The hat cover includes a flexible wrap having a first side, a second side, and a lower edge. A first fastener is disposed on the first side at a first end of the wrap. A second fastener is disposed on the second side at a second end of the wrap. The first fastener can removably secure to the second fastener to removably secure the wrap about a crown of a hat such that the lower edge rests flush with an upper surface of a brim of the hat. A plurality of clips is disposed on the second side configured to removably secure the wrap to the crown.

CROSS REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS

This application claims the benefit of U.S. Provisional Application No. 62/382,882 filed on Sep. 2, 2016. The above identified patent application is herein incorporated by reference in its entirety to provide continuity of disclosure.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

The present invention relates to hat covers. Specifically, it relates to hat covers configured to removably secure to about the crown of a hat to alter the aesthetic appearance thereof.
Many people enjoy wearing hats, such as fedoras, to complement their personal styles. However, those hats may suffer from damage or dirt that is unable to be cleaned. In these situations, many people may simply throw away the hat, leading to great expense in having to replace a hat frequently. Additionally, once a user purchases a hat, that hat's appearance is the only option available to a user. In order to expand their style or outfit options, a user must purchase an additional hat. Therefore, there is a need for an accessory that can both protect and cover an existing hat, while also providing the user with a less expensive interchangeable accessory to alter the style and appearance of an existing hat.
In light of the devices disclosed in the known art, it is submitted that the present invention substantially diverges in design elements from the known art and consequently it is clear that there is a need in the art for an improvement to existing hat covers. In this regard, the instant invention substantially fulfills these needs.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

In view of the foregoing disadvantages inherent in the known types of hat covers now present in the prior art, the present invention provides a hat cover wherein the same can be utilized for providing convenience for the user when varying the aesthetic appearance of a hat.
The present system comprises a flexible wrap having a first side, a second side, and a lower edge. A first fastener is disposed on the first side at a first end of the wrap and a second fastener is disposed on the second side at a second end of the wrap. The first fastener is configured to removably secure to the second fastener, such that the wrap is configured to removably secure about a crown of a hat, wherein the lower edge rests flush against an upper surface of a brim of the hat. In some embodiments, the wrap further comprises an upper portion configured to rest flush against an upper side of the crown when the wrap is removably secured about the crown. In another embodiment, the upper portion is affixed along an upper edge of the wrap. In other embodiments, the wrap further comprises a plurality of layers. In yet another embodiment, an outer layer comprises a waterproof material. In some embodiments, an inner layer comprises a material with a coefficient of friction greater than one. In another embodiment a middle layer comprises a padded material. In other embodiments, the wrap further comprises a decorative element disposed on the first side. In yet another embodiment, the wrap comprises an elastic material. In some embodiments, the wrap further comprises a plurality of clips disposed on the second side configured to removably secure the wrap to the crown.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

Reference is made herein to the attached drawings. Like reference numerals are used throughout the drawings to depict like or similar elements of the hat cover. The figures are intended for representative purposes only and should not be considered to be limiting in any respect.
Referring now to FIG. 1, there is shown a perspective view of an embodiment of the hat cover. The hat cover 11 comprises a wrap 12 having a first side 13 and a second side 14. The wrap 12 comprises a flexible material such that the wrap 12 can fold about itself. In this way, the wrap 12 is configured to conform to the shape of a crown (as shown in FIG. 3, 19) of a hat (as shown in FIG. 3, 20). In some embodiments, the wrap 12 can removably secure about the crown of other styles of head coverings, such as a cap. In this way, the wrap 12 can be interchangeably placed about the crowns of a variety of hats. In an alternate embodiment, the wrap 12 comprises an elastic material such that the wrap 12 is configured to stretch around the crown of a hat and removably secure thereto. In some embodiments, the first side 13 comprises a decorative aesthetic appearance to provide a user with a desirable fashion accessory for a hat. In the illustrated embodiment, the wrap 12 further comprises a decorative element 26 disposed on the first side 13. In this way, the user can customize a hat to their preferred style. In other embodiments, the second side 14 comprises a material having a coefficient of friction greater than one. In this way, the second side 14 prevents the wrap 12 from sliding or rotating about the hat.
The wrap 12 further comprises a first fastener 15 disposed on the first side 13 on a first end 17 of the wrap 12. A second fastener 16 is disposed on the second side 14 at a second end 18 of the wrap 12. The first and second fasteners 15, 16 are configured to removably secure to each other. In some embodiments, the first and second fasteners 15, 16 are disposed along the length of the first and second ends 17, 18 such that the diameter of the wrap when fastened is adjustable. In this way, the first and second fasteners 15, 16 can removably secure the wrap 12 to various hat sizes. In the illustrated embodiment, the first and second fasteners 15, 16 comprise hook and loop fasteners, however, in alternate embodiments, the variety of fasteners include, but are not limited to, buttons, snaps, clasps, latches, and hooks configured to engage opposing rings.
In the illustrated embodiment, the wrap 12 further comprises a plurality of clips 27 disposed along the second side 14. The plurality of clips 27 are configured to removably secure the wrap 12 to the crown of a hat, such that movement, both parallel and perpendicular to the length of the wrap 12, is prevented. In this way, a user can ensure that the wrap 12 remains in a desired position. In the illustrated embodiment, the plurality of clips 27 comprise spring-biased clamps configured to removably secure the crown of the hat therein.
Referring now to FIG. 2, there is shown a perspective view of an embodiment of the hat cover having an upper portion. In the illustrated embodiment, the hat cover 11 further comprises an upper portion 21. The upper portion 21 is affixed to the wrap 12 along an upper edge 32 thereof. In this way, the hat cover 11 covers the entirety of the crown of the hat, allowing a user a larger range of fashion customization options.
In the illustrated embodiment, the second end 18 extends away from the upper portion 21 to create a flap 33, allowing the second fastener 16 to removably secure to the first fastener 15 at the first end 17. In some embodiments, the flap 33 comprises an elastic material to allow a user to removably secure the second end 18 along various positions along the first end 17 to provide an adjustable fit. The first and second fasteners 15, 16 are shown as a plurality of rings and a hook, respectively. In this embodiment, the second fastener 16 engages one of the plurality of rings of the first fastener 15 allowing the hat cover 11 to adjust to fit a variety of hat sizes.
Referring now to FIG. 3, there is shown an exploded view of an embodiment of the hat cover removably affixed to a hat. The wrap 12 is configured to be removably secured over the crown 19 of the hat 20. In the illustrated embodiment, the upper portion 21 rests flush against an upper side 22 of the crown 19. In this way, the wrap 12 ensures maximal frictional engagement with the crown 19, as the entire interior of the wrap 12 is in contact with the crown 19. In the illustrated embodiment, a lower edge 31 of the wrap 12 rests flush on the upper surface 29 of a brim 30 of the hat 20. This ensures that the entirety of the crown 19 is covered by the wrap 12, such that any prior damage to the crown 19 is covered, while allowing the user to alter the style of the hat 20. In another embodiment, the lower edge 31 rests above the upper surface 29 of the brim 30 such that a portion of the crown 19 is visible. This provides the user with various aesthetic options, showing a sharp contrast between the appearance of the wrap 12 with the appearance of the crown 19. The wrap 12 can be further secured to the crown 19 via the plurality of clips disposed on the second side of the wrap 12. In some embodiments, the wrap 12 comprises an elastic band disposed within the wrap 12, wherein the wrap 12 is configured to removably secure about the crown 19 and the brim 30 of the hat 20, such that the entire hat 20 is covered. In this way, the wrap 12 can be used to alter the appearance of an entire hat 20, such that a variety of styles and appearances are possible.
Referring now to FIG. 4, there is shown a cross-sectional view of an embodiment of the hat cover. In the illustrated embodiment, the hat cover further comprises a plurality of layers, including an outer layer 24, an inner layer 25, and a middle layer 28. In some embodiments, the outer layer 24 comprises a decorative appearance to allow the user to customize a hat to fit a desired style. In another embodiment, the outer layer 24 comprises a waterproof material, such that the hat is protected against damage from water. In another embodiment, the inner layer 25 comprises a material having a coefficient of friction greater than one, such that the hat cover frictionally engages with the crown of a hat, preventing it from moving from a desired position. In the illustrated embodiment, the middle layer 28 is disposed between the outer and inner layers 24, 25, wherein the middle layer 28 comprises a padded material, such that the wrap is comfortable for the user. In some embodiments, the outer layer 24 and the inner layer 25 comprise different colors and designs, such that the wrap is reversible.
It is therefore submitted that the instant invention has been shown and described in various embodiments. It is recognized, however, that departures may be made within the scope of the invention and that obvious modifications will occur to a person skilled in the art. With respect to the above description then, it is to be realized that the optimum dimensional relationships for the parts of the invention, to include variations in size, materials, shape, form, function and manner of operation, assembly and use, are deemed readily apparent and obvious to one skilled in the art, and all equivalent relationships to those illustrated in the drawings and described in the specification are intended to be encompassed by the present invention.
Therefore, the foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the invention. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the invention.

Claims

I claim:

1) A hat cover, comprising:

a flexible wrap having a first side, a second side, and a lower edge;

a first fastener disposed on the first side at a first end of the wrap;

a second fastener disposed on the second side at a second end of the wrap;

wherein the first fastener is configured to removably secure to the second fastener;

wherein the wrap is configured to removably secure about a crown of a hat;

wherein the wrap further comprises a plurality of clips disposed on the second side configured to removably secure the wrap to the crown.

2) The hat cover of claim 1, wherein the wrap further comprises an upper portion configured to rest against an upper side of the crown when the wrap is removably secured about the crown.

3) The hat cover of claim 1, wherein the wrap further comprises a plurality of layers.

4) The hat cover of claim 3, wherein an outer layer comprises a waterproof material.

5) The hat cover of claim 3, wherein an inner layer comprises a material having a coefficient of friction greater than one.

6) The hat cover of claim 3, wherein a middle layer comprises a padded material.

7) The hat cover of claim 1, further comprising a decorative element disposed on the first side.

8) The hat cover of claim 1, wherein the wrap comprises an elastic material.

9) The hat cover of claim 1, wherein a flap is formed at the second end, wherein the flap is configured to overlap the first end.

10) The hat cover of claim 1, wherein the second fastener comprises a hook and the first fastener comprises a plurality of rings, wherein the second fastener is configured to engage the first fastener.

11) The hat cover of claim 1, wherein the wrap is configured to removably secure about the crown such that the lower edge rests flush with an upper surface of a brim of the hat.
