Abstract

A game that is played following the same rules most football fans will understand. It consists of a playing board (measuring 36″×60″) that resembles a football field, with the yardage clearly marked (every 5 inches represents 10 yards) and a goal post at each end, a coin for decision making, twenty offense and twenty defense cards representing the teams, one set of red dice, one set of blue dice, a challenge flag, one challenge dice (with 3 sides for stand and 3 sides for overturned) and a play clock. The game is played with four six-minute quarters. The clock has multiple buttons to control the following: adjusting the game clock, adjusting each team's time-outs, adjusting each team's challenges, adjusting the score for each team.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

1. Field of the Invention

The present invention relates generally to the field of game devices and more specifically relates to a game that is played following the same rules most football fans will understand. The game is comprised of a playing board (measuring 36″×60″) that resembles a football field, with the yardage clearly marked (every 5 inches represents 10 yards) and a goal post at each end, a coin for decision making, twenty offense and twenty defense cards representing the teams, one set of red dice, one set of blue dice, a challenge flag, one challenge dice (with 3 sides for stand and 3 sides for overturned) and a play clock. The game is played with four six-minute quarters. The clock has multiple buttons to control the following: adjusting the game clock, adjusting each team's time-outs, adjusting each team's challenges, adjusting the score for each team.

2. Description of the Related Art

Football is a family of team sports that involve, to varying degrees, kicking a ball to score a goal. Unqualified, the word football is understood to refer to whichever form of football is the most popular in the regional context in which the word appears. Many football fans would love to participate actively in games, in addition to watching them on their televisions. Therefore, a need exists for a specially designed new game that will appeal to all those who love the game as much as they do.
Various attempts have been made to solve the problems which may be found in the related art but have thus far been unsuccessful. A need exists for a reliable Paper Football Board Game to avoid the above-mentioned problems.

BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

In view of the foregoing disadvantages inherent in the known art, the present invention provides a novel Paper Football Board Game. The general purpose of the present invention, which will be described subsequently in greater detail, is to provide a game that is played following the same rules most football fans will understand. The game is comprised of a playing board (measuring 36″×60″) that resembles a football field, with the yardage clearly marked (every 5 inches represents 10 yards) and a goal post at each end, a coin for decision making, twenty offense and twenty defense cards representing the teams, one set of red dice, one set of blue dice, a challenge flag, one challenge dice (with 3 sides for stand and 3 sides for overturned) and a play clock. The game is played with four six-minute quarters. The clock has multiple buttons to control the following: adjusting the game clock, adjusting each team's time-outs, adjusting each team's challenges, adjusting the score for each team. The features of the invention which are believed to be novel are particularly pointed out and distinctly claimed in the concluding portion of the specification. These and other features, aspects, and advantages of the present invention will become better understood with reference to the following drawings and detailed description.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

As discussed above, embodiments of the present invention relate to a game device and more particularly to a Paper Football Board Game.
Referring now to the drawings FIGS. 1-3, a Paper Football Board Game is disclosed herein in a preferred embodiment comprising a triangular-shaped paper football is used for scoring goals when playing the Paper Football Game. This game is intended to be played by two or more players, age 8 and older.

After unfolding and setting all the pieces in their designated positions, the players must decide which team will be the home team and which the away team, which team is to be blue or red, and which team wants the first possession or the first possession after halftime, which can be settled by tossing the coin.
Each team will have 3 timeouts per half, which pause the clock, and two challenges per game. When the team loses by rolling the challenge dice, they will lose a timeout. When they win a challenge, it will overturn the last play. A touchdown is scored by tapping the football down the field and coming to a complete stop while hanging off the edge of the end zone while within the offenses 4 downs. If the football falls off the board at any point while hanging off of the edge, it is not worth a touchdown, and instead is a turnover on the offense. A touchdown is worth 6 points. A field goal, worth 3 points, is scored when the ball is kicked successfully through the field-goal post. The player that is kicking the football, whether it be an extra point or a field goal, has the option to either kick through the goalpost or through the opposing player's hands. After scoring a touchdown, the scoring team has an option to go for an extra point or a 2-point conversion. An extra point is a field goal attempted from the 35-yard line and a 2-point conversion is a 1-tap attempt to score a touchdown from the 5-yard line.
A safety, worth 2 points and possession, is scored by the team when kicking off where the football hangs off the edge of the playing field after the kickoff.
The game clock runs throughout the game and is only stopped when a player calls a time-out, and at the two-minute mark in the second and fourth quarters, also known as a two-minute warning.
In Paper Football, there are no 1^stdowns. A team has 4 chances (4 downs) to score. On the 4^thdown, the team with possession has 3 options: 1. Attempt to score a touchdown, 2. Attempt a field goal, or 3. Kickoff to the opponent. Any team can attempt onside kicks instead of a kickoff as many times as they would like throughout the game. An onside kick is attempted after placing the ball at midfield (50-yard line). The team attempting the kick has 1 chance to roll the dice and come out with doubles. If doubles are rolled, the kicking team receives possession at midfield. If doubles are not rolled, the opposing team receives possession at midfield. The team that does not have first possession kicks off to the other team. If the kickoff goes off of the board or out-of-bounds, it is a touch back, and the ball is placed at the opponent's 20-yard line.
After kickoffs, each team rolls their dice. Whoever wins the roll has the option to select a card within the next series of downs. A team does not have to take a card. Offense takes cards from the Offense pile, and Defense picks cards from the Defense piles. At halftime, take the cards from the discard piles and shuffle them with the remaining cards for the 2nd half. During the dice roll, all pairs defeat all non-pairs. If the teams' roll tie each other, there is a re-roll. The rolls from worst to best ranks as follows: 1-2 (3), 1-3 (4), 1-4 (5), 1-5 (6), 1-6 (7), 2-3 (5), 2-4 (6), 2-5 (7), 2-6 (8), 3-4 (7), 3-5 (8), 3-6 (9), 4-5 (9), 4-6 (10), 5-6 (11), 1-1 (2), 2-2 (4), 3-3 (6), 4-4 (8), 5-5 (10), and 6-6 (12). The present invention provides a fun and challenging game for football fans to play.
The embodiments of the invention described herein are exemplary and numerous modifications, variations and rearrangements can be readily envisioned to achieve substantially equivalent results, all of which are intended to be embraced within the spirit and scope of the invention. Further, the purpose of the foregoing abstract is to enable the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and the public generally, and especially the scientist, engineers and practitioners in the art who are not familiar with patent or legal terms or phraseology, to determine quickly from a cursory inspection the nature and essence of the technical disclosure of the application.

Claims

What is claimed is new and desired to be protected by Letters Patent is set forth in the appended claim:

1. A Paper Football Board Game comprising:

a playing board in the image of a football field, with the yardage clearly marked and a goal post at each end, a coin for decision making, twenty offense and twenty defense cards representing the teams, one two color dice, a challenge flag, one challenge dice with 3 sides for stand and 3 sides for overturned and a play clock.

2. A game according to claim 1 further comprising:

having a playing field having a plurality of goal posts, having a triangular-shaped paper football, having plurality of players forming two teams, using triangular-shaped paper football is used for scoring goals when playing the Paper Football Game, having two halves, a clock with a set time per half where each time will have a plurality of timeouts which will stop the clock, where one team first possession in the first half with the other team having first possession in the second half, where each possession will have a set number of downs, where each team will have a set number of challenges per half, a field goal which is worth 3 points, is scored when the football is kicked successfully through the field-goal post which is set at the end of the playing field, a touchdown is scored by tapping the football down the field in the 4th down, if the football hangs off the edge of playing field without falling off, it is a touchdown worth 6 points, after scoring a touchdown, the scoring team has an option to go for an extra point or a 2-point conversion where an extra point is a field goal attempted from the 35-yard line and a 2-point conversion is a 1-tap attempt to have football hang off the edge of playing field without falling off from the 5-yard line.

3. A game according to claim 2 further comprising:

Having one team be a home team and another team be an away team.

4. A game according to claim 3 further comprising:

Having the home team be determined by a coin toss.

5. A game according to claim 2 further comprising:

Where each team is assigned a color.

6. A game according to claim 4 further comprising:

Where the colors are blue and red.

7. A game according to claim 2 further comprising:

Where each team will have three timeouts per half.

8. A game according to claim 2 further comprising:

Where each team will have two challenges per half.

Where after kickoffs, each team rolls their dice, whoever wins the roll has the option to select a card within the next series of downs, where if the team winning the roll is on Offense takes cards from the Offense pile, and if on Defense picks cards from the Defense pile.
