- Description of the Related Art
- It is well known to use to use cover-ups when wearing swimwear such as bikinis. Such cover-ups are typically long flowing thin material such as sarong which is wrapped around the person's body multiple times. While such a garment is well suited to walking or lounging it is not suitable for exercising movements, as the material is long and loose and wrapped multiple times around a person. This means that is can easily become caught in exercise equipment or otherwise tangled causing a hazard for the person. Additionally, the thin material cover-ups do not provide for secure storage for personal items such as smartphones, wallets, or personal music playing devices and are limited in this regard. Moreover, due to the form fitting nature of exercise clothing exercising garments are not provided with storage for such items. As such, the inventors found that there was a need for providing storage capabilities in a cover-up garment.
- It is accordingly an object of the invention to provide a cover-up garment, which overcomes the hereinafore-mentioned disadvantages of the heretofore-known devices of this general type and which is constructed to be of a suitable length that allows the person to exercise or stretch in an unrestricted manner.
- With the foregoing and other objects in view there is provided, in accordance with the invention, a garment that has a material tubular body portion with a first end and a second end opposite the first end. The first end is closed. The body portion has opposing sides extending between the first end and the second end. A first arm portion and a second arm portion are disposed on the body portion at the first end on opposite ones of the opposing sides. Each of the first and second arm portions have respective free arm ends to allow the first and second arm portions to be connected to one another when wrapped around a wearer's waist.
- In accordance with another feature of the invention, the body portion has an opening to the interior adjacent the first end. A pocket is disposed in the body interior and is affixed to the body portion at the opening and the opening leads into the pocket.
- In accordance with a further feature of the invention, the pocket is waterproof.
- In accordance with an added feature of the invention, the waterproof pocket is provided with a closure at the opening.
- In accordance with an additional feature of the invention, the closure is a waterproof zipper.
- In accordance with yet another feature of the invention, the pocket and the opening are substantially centered between the opposing sides on the body portion.
- In accordance with still yet another feature of the invention, the opening is provided on the body portion longitudinally aligned with the arm portions.
- In accordance with still yet another feature of the invention, the first and second arm portions are tubular and each have a respective arm interior.
- With the foregoing and other objects in view there is also provided, in accordance with the invention, a garment that includes an oblong segment of material having opposing longitudinal ends. A first elongated segment of material is affixed laterally on the oblong segment of material at a first one of the longitudinal ends. A second elongated segment of material is affixed laterally on the oblong segment of material opposite the first elongated segment of material and at the first one of the longitudinal ends. the oblong segment of material having an opening formed therein at a longitudinal position on the oblong segment of material within one third of an overall length of the oblong segment of material. The opening spanning a longitudinal centerline of the oblong segment of material. The opening has a pocket disposed on the oblong segment of material at the opening. The opening issues into the pocket.
- With the foregoing and other objects in view there is also provided, in accordance with the invention, a garment that includes a material body portion that has a first end and a second end opposite the first end. The body portion has opposing sides that extend between the first end and the second end. A first arm portion. A second arm portion. The first and second arm portions are attached to the body portion opposite one another at the first end and on the opposing sides. FIG. 18 is a side view of the garment shown inFIG. 17 , where both the left side view and the right side view are the same. - Referring now to the drawings and first particularly to
FIG. 1 there is shown the wrap/cover up 10 of the present invention. It is noted that cover up 10 appears in the shape of a long sleeve-shirt, however the cover up 10 is not a shirt since it does not and cannot function as a shirt. Specifically, there is no opening at the top of the shirt as is typical in most shirts. Cover up 10 has abody portion 20, which may be tubular. Thebody portion 20 is generally oblong in shape with afirst end 21, asecond end 22 and lateral sides 24. Thesecond end 22 may be open andfirst end 21 is closed. Elongated sleeves/arms 23 extend, on opposite ones of thelateral sides 24 of thebody portion 20, adjacent thefirst end 21. Thearms 23 each have afree end 25. When placed around a wearer, thearms 23 are connected to one another. This may be achieved by tying thearms 23 to one another or by providing hook and loop fasteners or some other easily adjustable connectors, which can efficiently accommodate different body sizes. - The
body portion 20 has afront side 29 and arear side 30. Therear side 30 has anopening 26 formed therein that leads into awaterproof pocket 31 adjacent thefirst end 21. Thepocket 31 is disposed on arear side 30 of thebody portion 20. As can be seen inFIG. 2 , theopening 26 has azipper 40 or other fastener such as hook and loop fasteners to keeppocket 31 closed. In a preferred embodiment the pocket is approximately 6 inches wide and 3½ inches deep. - As shown in
FIG. 5 the cover up 10 is shown worn or wrapped around the body of auser 50, with thefirst end 21 orientated and worn near thewaist 52 of the user and thebody portion 20 hanging from thewaist 52 of the user with thesecond end 22 extending below the buttocks and near the back of theknees 54 of the user. The cover up 10 covers and conceals the posterior backside of the user, which prevents undesired attention to the wearer's backside. - As seen in
FIG. 5 , in the front view of theuser 50, thearms 23 are wrapped around the waist of the user to secure cover up 10 around thewaist 52 of the wearer where it is noted in this front view that the free ends 25 of thearms 23 hang in the front of the user to conceal the front of the user. Typically, arms 23 are tied in aknot 41 at the front of the user's waist to hold and support cover up 10 on the user's body. It can also be seen that thebody portion 20 covers the buttocks of a user and thearms 23 cover or at least partially obscure the frontal areas of a user. - As can be seen in
FIG. 8 , when thebody portion 20 is of twomaterial layers 20 m thepocket 31 is within aninterior portion 27 ofbody portion 20 with the opening ofpocket 31 on thefront side 29.Pocket 31 includes aninterior portion 42 that provides a waterproof area withinpocket 31 to protect valuables or a cell phone. In apreferred embodiment pocket 31 is a sealed area and thewalls 43 ofpocket 31 and thezipper 40 are made of a waterproof material to maintain theinterior pocket portion 42 free of water or moisture. - When the cover up 10 has two layers, the cover up may have an opening 45 at the
second end 22 ofbody portion 20. Further it can be seen inFIG. 8 , that there is no opening at thefirst end 21 ofbody portion 20. -
FIGS. 12, 13 and 14 show the garment cover up 10.FIGS. 15 and 16 show the garment cover up 10 where there is a single layer of fabric material.FIGS. 17 and 18 show the garment cover up 10 where there are two layers of fabric material. - In use cover up 10 is used by a user to cover portions of the user's body including the buttocks and frontal areas of the user's body. The
body portion 20 extends below the buttocks of the user and covers and conceals the buttocks, thearms 23 after being connected can cover frontal areas of the user's body. Thearms 23 are of sufficient length to allow a user to extend the sleeves around the user's waist and tie aknot 41 and allow the free ends 25 to hang fromknot 41 due to the length of thearms 23. - Cover up 10 can be made of any wearable material used to come in contact with a user's body, the material can be constructed for exercising and to wick away moisture from the body of the user.
- While the invention has been described in its preferred form or embodiment with some degree of particularity, it is understood that this description has been given only by way of example and that numerous changes in the details of construction, fabrication, and use, including the combination and arrangement of parts, may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.
