  • BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
  • (1) Field of the Invention
  • The present invention generally relates to band-tightening devices, and, more particularly, to a polypropylene band-tightening device with a modified gripping and crimping mechanism. The invention also relates to a device that makes the process of crimping polypropylene bands easier.
  • (2) Background of the Invention
  • Packets or articles are generally mounted on pallets by means of a packaging band in order to ensure that these packets and articles are transported safely and without being damaged.
  • In addition to steel bands, plastic bands, predominantly composed of polyester or polypropylene, are increasingly being used for this purpose. Once the packaging band has been passed around the pallet and the packaged item, the packaging band is tensioned and closed by means of a closure device, such as an electrical hand-held appliance. The power supply for the closure device may be provided by both the main system and a rechargeable battery. The closure device may be, for example, a welding appliance with a rechargeable battery.
  • The closure device is moved onto the band to be closed by hand of an operator. This has the disadvantage that the closure device is relatively heavy, generally being 2.5 to 6 kilograms. The further exacerbating factor is that the closure device must be held with one hand, since the packaging band must be threaded with the other hand. This leads to correspondingly high physical stress on the operator.
  • Once the packaging band has been threaded in, the closure device tensions the packing band. The parts of the packaging band that are located on top of one another are then welded, and the excess packaging band is cut off.
  • The handling of the closure device is particularly disadvantageous for the operator when the pallet to be closed or the article to be closed is higher than the chest level of the operator since, in this case, the closure device can no longer be placed on the top face of the packaged item in the normal way. As soon as the pallet is higher than the chest level of the operator, the operator has to tense, close, and cut off the packaging band in the vertical plane. Due to health limitations, some people cannot carry out this activity.
  • It can be appreciated that there exists a continuing need for a new and improved closure or crimping device for polypropylene bands. The current invention presents a closure or crimping device that is small in shape and easy to use, which improves productivity.
  • SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
  • In the view of the foregoing disadvantages inherent in the known types of crimping tool now present in the prior art, the present invention provides an improved crimping device for bands. As such, the general purpose of the present invention, which will be described subsequently in greater detail, is to provide a new and improved crimping or crimping device for polypropylene bands that has all of the advantages of the prior art and none of the disadvantages.
  • A primary objective of the present invention is to provide a device for polypropylene bands that makes the crimping process easier.
  • It is, therefore, an objective of the present invention to provide a crimping device that saves time and increases productivity.
  • Another objective of the present invention is to provide a crimping device that is small in size, thereby making it portable and user friendly.
  • It is, therefore, an objective of the present invention to provide a crimping device that has a spring in the handle for easy operation of the device.
  • It is also an objective of the present invention to provide a crimping device that has rubber grips for easily gripping the crimping device.
  • It is, therefore, an objective of the present invention to provide a crimping device that has space for a company logo, for advertisement.
  • It is an objective of the present invention to provide a crimping device that is made of strong but lightweight material.
  • It is, therefore, an objective of the present invention to provide a manual crimping device.
  • Another objective of the present invention is to provide a crimping device that is economical to manufacture and easy to implement.
  • In this respect, before explaining at least one embodiment of the invention in detail, it is to be understood that the invention is not limited in its application to the details of construction and to the arrangements of the components set forth in the following description or illustrated in the drawings.
