Abstract
A container assembly that may be used as a can or a cup includes a container that may contain a beverage. A lid is removably coupled to the container and a retainer is removably coupled to the lid. The retainer engages the container such that the lid is retained on the container. The retainer is selectively removed from the lid such that the lid is removable from the container.
Description
- The disclosure relates to container devices and more particularly pertains to a new container device that may be used as a can or a cup.
- An embodiment of the disclosure meets the needs presented above by generally comprising a container that may contain a beverage. A lid is removably coupled to the container and a retainer is removably coupled to the lid. The retainer engages the container such that the lid is retained on the container. The retainer is selectively removed from the lid such that the lid is removable from the container.
- There has thus been outlined, rather broadly, the more important features of the disclosure in order that the detailed description thereof that follows may be better understood, and in order that the present contribution to the art may be better appreciated. There are additional features of the disclosure that will be described hereinafter and which will form the subject matter of the claims appended hereto.
- The objects of the disclosure, along with the various features of novelty which characterize the disclosure, are pointed out with particularity in the claims annexed to and forming a part of this disclosure.
- The disclosure will be better understood and objects other than those set forth above will become apparent when consideration is given to the following detailed description thereof. Such description makes reference to the annexed drawings wherein:
-
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a container assembly according to an embodiment of the disclosure. -
FIG. 2 is an exploded top perspective view of an embodiment of the disclosure. -
FIG. 3 is a front view of an embodiment of the disclosure. -
FIG. 4 is a cross sectional view taken along line 4-4 ofFIG. 3 of an embodiment of the disclosure. -
FIG. 5 is a top view of an embodiment of the disclosure. - With reference now to the drawings, and in particular to
FIGS. 1 through 5 thereof, a new container device embodying the principles and concepts of an embodiment of the disclosure and generally designated by thereference numeral 10 will be described. - As best illustrated in
FIGS. 1 through 5 , thecontainer assembly 10 generally comprises acontainer 14 that may contain abeverage 16. Thecontainer 14 has abottom wall 18 and aperipheral wall 20 extending upwardly from thebottom wall 18. Theperipheral wall 20 has adistal edge 22 with respect to thebottom wall 18 and theperipheral wall 20 has anouter surface 24. Theperipheral wall 20 is curved such that thecontainer 14 has a cylindrical shape and thedistal edge 22 defines anopening 26 into thecontainer 14. Thecontainer 14 may comprise a soda can or the like. - The
peripheral wall 20 has arecessed portion 28. Therecessed portion 28 extends inwardly toward a center 30 of thecontainer 14. Therecessed portion 28 extends around an entire circumference of theperipheral wall 20. Therecessed portion 28 is spaced from thedistal edge 22 and therecessed portion 28 has an upper boundingsurface 32. - A
lid 34 is removably coupled to thecontainer 14 and thelid 34 includes abody portion 36 and acoupling portion 38. Thebody portion 36 has anextraneous edge 40 and theextraneous edge 40 is continuous such that thebody portion 36 has a disk shape. Thecoupling portion 38 comprises aleg 42 and afoot 44 and theleg 42 extends upwardly from thebody portion 36. Theleg 42 is coextensive with theextraneous edge 40 and thefoot 44 is spaced from theleg 42 to define aspace 46 between theleg 42 and thefoot 44. Thedistal edge 22 of thecontainer 14 is positioned within thespace 46 having thefoot 44 abutting theouter surface 24 of thecontainer 14 and thefoot 44 has amating edge 48. - The
body portion 36 includes aflap 50 that is movably coupled to thebody portion 36. Atab 52 is movably coupledbody portion 36. Thetab 52 may be manipulated such that thetab 52 urges theflap 50 into an open position thereby facilitating thebeverage 16 to be consumed from thecontainer 14. Theflap 50 and thetab 52 may comprise a pop tab or the like utilized in the convention of soda cans. - A
retainer 54 is removably coupled to thelid 34. Theretainer 54 engages the container such that thelid 34 is retained on thecontainer 14. Theretainer 54 is selectively removed from thelid 34 such that thelid 34 is removable from thecontainer 14. Theretainer 54 has afirst end 56, asecond end 58 and anextraneous surface 60 extending between thefirst end 56 and thesecond end 58. Theextraneous surface 60 has anupper edge 62 and alower edge 64 and theextraneous surface 60 is curved between theupper edge 62 and thelower edge 64. Theupper edge 62 is removably mated to themating edge 48 of thefoot 44. Theretainer 54 extends inwardly along the upper boundingsurface 32 of therecessed portion 28 such that thelid 34 is retained on thecontainer 14. - A
tab 66 is coupled to theretainer 54. Thetab 66 may be manipulated such that theretainer 54 is removable from thelid 34 thereby facilitating thelid 34 to be removed from thecontainer 14. Thetab 66 extends downwardly from thelower edge 64 of theretainer 54 and thetab 66 is positioned adjacent to thefirst end 56 of theretainer 54. Theupper edge 62 is separated from themating edge 48 when thetab 66 is manipulated. - In use, the
tab 52 on thelid 34 is manipulated to urge theflap 50 into the open position. Thus, thebeverage 16 may be consumed from thecontainer 14 in the convention of drinking a beverage from a soda can. Thetab 66 on theretainer 54 is manipulated and theretainer 54 is removed from thelid 34. Thelid 34 is removed from thecontainer 14 and thebeverage 16 may be consumed from thecontainer 14 in the convention of drinking a beverage from a cup. - With respect to the above description then, it is to be realized that the optimum dimensional relationships for the parts of an embodiment enabled by the disclosure, to include variations in size, materials, shape, form, function and manner of operation, assembly and use, are deemed readily apparent and obvious to one skilled in the art, and all equivalent relationships to those illustrated in the drawings and described in the specification are intended to be encompassed by an embodiment of the disclosure.
- Therefore, the foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the disclosure. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the disclosure to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the disclosure. In this patent document, the word “comprising” is used in its non-limiting sense to mean that items following the word are included, but items not specifically mentioned are not excluded. A reference to an element by the indefinite article “a” does not exclude the possibility that more than one of the element is present, unless the context clearly requires that there be only one of the elements.
