Abstract
An apparatus for holding ammunition comprising a support backing, at least one retaining device to hold one end of the ammunition, and at least one magnet attached to the support backing. The retaining device may receive the first end of the ammunition and the magnet magnetically attaches to a second end of the ammunition, such that that the ammunition is held in place.
Description
- This application claims the benefit of U.S. Provisional Application No. 61/961,584, filed Oct. 18, 2013.
- The invention generally relates to ammunition holder.
- While a variety of ammunition magazines and belts exist, this type of ammunition holder generally suffers from the ability to quickly reload shotgun shells. As a result, hunters are forced to fish around in their pockets, ammunition pouches or other locations for an unused shell.
- There remains a need for a device that allows quick and easy access to shotgun shells.
- An ammunition holder retains ammunition at a convenient location until needed by the user.
- In one aspect, an ammunition holder comprising a retaining device to hold one end of the ammunition, and a magnet to magnetically keep the ammunition secure is disclosed. In some embodiments the retaining device receives the first end of the ammunition and the magnet magnetically attaches to the second end of the ammunition, such that the ammunition is held in place until needed. In other embodiments, the magnet is fixed in the retaining device. In other embodiments, the retaining device is magnetic and securely holds the ammunition.
- In another aspect, the retaining device and the magnet are secured to a supporting back. In another aspect, the support backing can consist of flexible fabric or rigid backing and any combination of rigid and flexible parts. In another aspect, the support backing can consist of a single rod attaching the magnet to the retaining device. In another aspect, the support backing can be attached to an article of clothing or part of the body with a hook and loop system, pins, magnets, elastic material or other attachment devices. In another aspect, the support backing can be attached to an article of clothing or part of the body with a hook and loop system, pins, magnets, elastic material or other attachment devices. In another aspect, the support backing can be attached to a hunting back, hunting equipment, tactical gear, gun, using hook and loop system, pins, magnets, elastic material, button, snap fastening device or other attachment devices. In another aspect, the support backing can consist of a single rigid rod attached to a magnet and a retention device.
- In another aspect, the magnet can be fixed on a rigid back material with a retainer integrated into a bag, an article of clothing, hunting equipment, or part of a gun (i.e. gun stock).
- In another aspect, the orientation of the ammunition can horizontal, vertical, diagonal or other orientation that is consistent with ease of access for user of device.
- In another aspect, the device can be used to make a plurality of ammunition holders.
- In another aspect, the device further comprises two metal plates, such that the each plate is fastened to opposite sides of the magnet This increases the pull force of the magnet.
- The invention and the following detailed description of certain embodiments thereof may be understood by reference to the following figures:
-
FIG. 1 is a view of the ammunition holder; -
FIG. 2 is another view of the ammunition holder. -
FIG. 3 is another view of the ammunition holder. -
FIG. 4 is another view of the ammunition holder. -
FIG. 5 is a single ammunition holder. -
FIG. 6 is a view of the ammunition holder as used by a person. -
FIG. 7 is a set of charts showing different levels of pull strength using a variety of methods. - The apparatus described herein may be used as an ammunition holder by a user in order to facilitate a quick reloading of a gun.
-
FIG. 1 is a view of theammunition holder 2. Theammunition holder 2 consists of aretaining device 6 and at least onemagnet 8. - The support backing 4 may consist of one entire loop of fabric. In other embodiments, such as the one shown, it may also use a
clasp 10 to fasten the support backing to a user's arm (As inFIG. 5 ) or other desired location. The ammunition 12 is held in place by having one end of the ammunition 12 inserted into theretaining device 6 and magnetically holding the other end of the ammunition 12 with themagnet 8. - The ammunition holder may consist of one or more
retaining devices 6 in order to hold one or more rounds of ammunition 12. In the embodiment shown, there are three rounds of ammunition 12 shown because this is a configuration that could be used by a duck hunter due to the limitation of rounds that can be used at any one time. -
FIG. 2 is another view of the ammunition holder. -
FIG. 3 is another view of the ammunition holder. -
FIG. 4 is another view of the ammunition holder. -
FIG. 5 is a single ammunition holder. In this embodiment, a clip may be used to attach an ammunition holder to an item such as a bag pack. -
FIG. 6 is a view of theammunition holder 2 as used by a person. As shown, theammunition holder 2 may be attached to user's arm in order to allow ready access to the rounds in order for a quick reload to be performed. -
FIG. 7 is a set of charts showing different levels of pull strength using a variety of methods. - While particular embodiments of the present invention have been shown and described, it will be apparent to those skilled in the art that various changes and modifications in form and details may be made therein without departing from the spirit and scope of this disclosure and are intended to form a part of the invention as defined by the following claims, which are to be interpreted in the broadest sense allowable by law.
