- The invention relates to a seating device used in conjunction with seats, such as bleachers and the like.
- In one embodiment, the invention provides a seating device having a top portion, a bottom portion, a front portion, a rear portion, a first side portion, and a second side portion. The seating device including a foam core; a water repellant cover surrounding the foam core; a handle attached to the water repellant cover on the front portion; a pocket integral with the water repellant cover, the pocket located on the top portion, the pocket having an opening located toward the front portion; and a first strap and a second strap, each having a first end and a second end. The first ends coupled to the water repellant cover at a connection point located along the rear portion and the top portion. The second ends configured to releasably couple to the first ends at the connection point via a fastener.
- In another embodiment the invention provides a seating device having a top portion, a bottom portion, a front portion, a rear portion, a first side portion, and a second side portion. Wherein during transporting of the seating device, the first strap and the second strap are configured to wrap around the seating device along the top portion, the front portion, the bottom portion, and the rear portion, and the second ends are configured to couple to the first ends at the connection point. Wherein when the seating device is secured to a seat, the bottom portion is in contact with the seat and the first strap and the second strap are configured to wrap around the seat and the second ends are configured to couple to the first ends at the connection point.
- Other aspects of the invention will become apparent by consideration of the detailed description and accompanying drawings.
-
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a seating device. -
FIG. 2 is an end view taken along line 2-2 ofFIG. 1 . -
FIG. 3 is a cross-sectional view taken along line 3-3 ofFIG. 1 . -
FIG. 4 is a perspective view of the seating device installed on a bleacher. - Before any embodiments of the invention are explained in detail, it is to be understood that the invention is not limited in its application to the details of construction and the arrangement of components set forth in the following description or illustrated in the following drawings. The invention is capable of other embodiments and of being practiced or of being carried out in various ways.
- A
seating device 10 is illustrated inFIGS. 1-4 . Thedevice 10 is designed to be used in conjunction with bleachers to provide a more comfortable surface upon which a person can sit. Thedevice 10 is light weight and easily transportable. Thedevice 10 is securable to a bleacher so that thedevice 10 does not become dislodged from its intended position on the bleacher during use. Thedevice 10 is water repellent to withstand weather, such as rain or snow, and contains a pocket to store items such as tickets, programs, brochures, or the like. - Specifically, the
device 10 includes afoam core 12 of a particular geometry to complement the bleacher geometry, such as most commonly a rectangular shape. Foam such as Styrofoam or Polyurethane foam, can be used. Thefoam core 12 should be of a firmness to strive to optimize a person's comfort when sitting upon it. - The
foam core 12 is surrounded by awater repellent cover 14. Many different materials can be used for thecover 14 such as SaturaMax fabrics, including but not limited to, WeatherMax 80, WeatherMax LT, WeatherMax FR, or other such materials. Thecover 14 is preferably sewn around thecore 12 but could also removably surround thecore 12 such as with a fastener-like tape, glue, hook and loop material, zippers, snaps, and the like. - The
cover 14 preferably includes a handle orloop 16 to aid in the easy transportation of theseating device 10. - The
cover 14 preferably includes apocket 18 for the storage of items such as tickets, programs, brochures, and/or personal items such as gloves, hand-warmers, and the like. Thepocket 18 is preferably located on and integral with thecover 14 in the orientation shown inFIG. 1 to minimize the possibility the contents of thepocket 18 falling out when theseating device 10 is carried and when thedevice 10 is positioned on the bleacher. - The
seating device 10 includes elements to removably secure thedevice 10 to the bleacher, such as 20 and 22. Thestraps device 10 is shown with two 20 and 22 but fewer straps or more straps could also be utilized. Thestraps 20 and 22 are preferably fabricated of hook and loop materials but other materials could also be used. Thestraps 20 and 22 are dimensioned such as to be long enough to surround a seat (e.g., a bleacher) and return to thestraps device 10. In this position on the seat, the 20 and 22 removably secure themselves to thestraps cover 14 at a connection point with afastener 24 such as hook and loop tape; however, other fasteners could also be utilized, such as but not limited to snaps, buttons, and zippers. When the 20 and 22 are not in use securing thestraps device 10 to a seat, they can be positioned around thecover 14 as shown inFIG. 1 , and secured at the connection point for easy transport without hanging down from thedevice 10. - To use the
seating device 10, thedevice 10 is transported to a seat, or bleacher, 26 such as with thehandle 16. The 20 and 22 are unsecured from thestraps cover 14 so they hang from thecover 14. Thedevice 10 can then be positioned on theseat 26 and the 20 and 22 moved to surround thestraps seat 26 as shown inFIG. 4 . When use of theseating device 10 is completed, the 20 and 22 are released, removed from their position surrounding thestraps seat 26, and resecured to thecover 14 for easy transportation. - Thus, the invention provides, among other things, a seating device. Various features and advantages of the invention are set forth in the following claims.
